Great work Mr. Mighty Eagle Sr. 👍

That's awesome, not only does Odin have a worthy shovel handle, but it looks like you could clobber someone over the head with that monster if anyone gives you trouble, then get right back to forging.

I don't think anything shy of outrageously heavy-duty would fit the bill here, as Bob and Doug Mackenzie would say - beauty job

I love how that you listen to metal in the shop, yet the music in your videos is relaxing instrumental.
@ThakIronworks
@ThakIronworks 4 жыл бұрын
That was a tough choice, but more people like the relaxing stuff, and it just fits better than most metal we have tried to work with.
@ShortwickCreations
@ShortwickCreations 4 жыл бұрын
I like both so I'm good with either but the instrumental gives it a medieval feel. Just need to find a "relaxing" instrumental versions of Slayer.

Your semi-random chiseling turned out really great, some very good ideas, thank you ! That's clearly a chunky shovel, but there is something nice in overbuilt, over weighted tools, great work thank you

The more of you work I watch, the more I think I like it. Lolololol So if I may ask... Why do you keep your coal in so much water? So I've seen Smith's dribbling water on the coal around the fire in the forge and been told it's to help it coke up. But yours is like soak in water. Newby here. Lit my new to me forge 1918 rivet forge for the 1st time today. Had to use lump charcoal as my bituminous is 300 miles away at my work home lol. I work out of Midland Texas 28 days a month and go to my ranch just out of Stephenville Texas 2 or 3 days a month. So dummyhead brought the forge and anvil but forgot the coal tongs brush ect ect. Lol 🙏 be blessed sirSir, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us Crawford out 🧙‍♂️

I actually have an old(er) video you can check out where I go into detail about lighting a coal forge, I also mention why I keep my coal in water. Check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooaylIyjn517otk You will have to excuse the poor quality of that video, we will likely be shooting another one to replace it.

I love it when inspiration and no real plan takes over, a true artist. Also did you use your leaf vein hardy for your flat jaw tongs? Seems like the vein would add a lot more strength.
@ThakIronworks
@ThakIronworks 4 жыл бұрын
I used a jig that would be similar to a leaf vein hardy, so yes I did haha, and you are correct it does add strength.

As you were doing the handle I thought that it would look cool if you did the entire handle as faces.

There are definitely many directions something like this could be taken. That might make for an interesting project down the road.

hell of a coalshovel :D btw, did you try using a UV-filter on your camera? should deal well with that whiteyellowisch glow at a good heat ;)

@@ThakIronworks Joey van der Steeg a Dutch smith has some pretty impressive filters that show high heats well. I took a (very quick) look at his channel to see if there was any info on the filters but didn't see any. If you drop him a message he may be able to give you a few pointers.
