I want to get mine restored so bad. I just found it at a garage sale. After spending $240 on a new odyssey white hot, I realized that I love the length and weight of this old school one. I just want the dings and dents out of it, and get it painted black and white.

Great video. What’s with the paint stripper can instead of the normal acetone?

Soaking a head in a tub of acetone i figured is sort of a waste just to get the paint off. And it isn't cheap! So I switched to the paint stripper. You don't use much at all and it strips it faster! I only use acetone to soak the heads before applying a finish or if it's really dirty with grease,oil, dirt etc.

@Kal L Yup. A $14 can of stripper will last 3 times as long as a $20 gallon of acetone. And for just stripping paint it works better and faster.

What is your full process for wiping away excess paint? I am struggling hard with this at the moment with my own restorations so any tips would be appreciated.

Maybe I'll make a video on this in the future. It seems like something that should be easy but, it takes a bit of practice. To start, make sure the surface your filling is clean. Then, depending on how your filling it; applicator, or brush, don't over fill, and if you do, use a paper towel dampened with acetone to LIGHTLY get the access off. I then hit everything I filled with a quick butane torch. That seems to take out any tiny bubbles in the fill. Then, most important part, wait until it's FULLY dry. Then you can go back with an acetone soaked paper towel, and lightly wipe it. Some putters are more tedious than others, but take your time.

Binge watched your Rossie vids. If I don't want to do a full restoration & only wanted to sand the face to make it usable again as part of a budget beginner set, do I have to treat the face with clear coat spray or some other chemical so moisture doesn't compromise the metal or black insert on the dual force version?

You can just sand it smooth. No coating necessary. Make sure however you're doing it that it's perfectly flat. For hand sand smooth faces, I use a block of granite and sand paper.

A Two ball would be difficult because of the polymers that are on it. I'd say if you're doing it yourself be patient with some sandpaper

nice work! I know the customer requested the insert not have any logos or wording, but if it were your choice would you have kept the insert or put in a different kind?

More than likely would have left it alone but turns out the white and the logo were just a super thin layer of paint. I think a company makes replacement Inserts but never looked into it as I've only done a few of these

What type of sand paper do you use for the face of the putter ?

Honestly I use whatever I have. Certain types work better for steel, Wood etc but. I have tons of Sandpaper and sanding rolls left over from other projects so. Usually it's just the standard red grit aluminum oxide, which is best used for wood, but works fine for what I need.

It's just a small hobby brush with a cotton tip. I don't use them anymore. I got them at Hobby Lobby, they were expensive, and don't last long at all. This video was recorded a few months back but I switched to a standard small bristled brush.

Where do you find your putters to restore?

They're putters sent to me for restoration. But if I'm buying for myself there's a ton of Facebook groups out there and sometimes eBay.

Another great restore. I get why you used the stripper but that stuff is nasty!! I use it to strip bike frames and the smell is horrific as well.

It really is. But I use so little that its not that bad. I vent out the door while its soaking for 5 to 10 minutes and the smell is gone.
