Incredible. Does the razor blade take out minor nicks and scratches? At what point do you use a buffer?
@igolf906
@igolf906 5 күн бұрын
Razer blade? I only used a razer blade to get the adhesive off the sole plate. Otherwise, I hand sanded the nicks out. This putter was in good shape, so didn't need to use the deburring wheel on it. I don't use a buffer for standard restores.

yeah.. been doing some nickel plating myself. As you show, prep and polishing are the big deal. For steel it is pretty simple to copper plate then nickel over that. It is also easy to nickel over steel or existing nickel. Getting copper to plate over nickel tho? mostly it takes an 'activator' in my experiance... kinda just an acid that gives a little bite to plating. Stripping off all the old nickel works but that can be a real chore.
@igolf906
@igolf906 6 күн бұрын
Definitely is something that takes time and practice. I haven't tried plating anything since but I have tried stripping and nothing seems to be working properly 🤷‍♂️

@@igolf906 For a bad nickel job I did when I was learning I had plated an extra barrel for a 36 caliber cap and ball Colt clone. sooo... what I did was just sand and polish it out till it was smooth which of course did not get all the old nickel off but because the part was now highly polished I just ran it through the nickel again and it came out great. That is how I would have done your top break if you wanted a nice glossy finish which...you did not but.. that is the way I would do it. One very cool cordless tool I use a lot is a Ryobi hand held belt sander that takes one inch belts. sorta like a small chain saw but with belts instead of a chain... anyway you can get belts from 60 grit down to 1000 or maybe even finer. The rounded pulley part in the front is also good for some curved areas. It works particularly well on the octagon barrel flats. I use it a lot for all sorts of things. I actually do a lot of work right at my desk with cordless tools. Very handy

I would like to know also how do you clean the paint surplus while painting the letters? Is the paint still wet and you clean it with a cloth? Or is it dry and you sand it? @googleuser2607 Cerakote isn't just something you can throw on. It takes time and practice to get it right. Needs to be mixed, and sprayed from a certain size tip, and the gun needs to be setup properly. The part also needs to be blasted at a particular psi, and with a certain media, soaked, and bake the moisture out. Then after spraying, needs to be flashed, and baked at a certain temp and time. Otherwise, the quality and finish will not be correct. Just fyi.
