Great video on the OEM NAV installation! I have been researching the OEM NAV installation for my 07 9-3 Aero, and considering possibly installing an after-market Sony XAV-AX210SXM head unit, however I don't trust ANY non-SAAB car stereo shop to touch my car as I'm sure they would really screw something up badly. I know the after-market head units are more difficult to install but others somehow have been successful in doing it so the research continues. Another SAAB you-tuber "Weakest of Weeks" has some good videos (2 or 3) on the OEM NAV installation and if I recall he did an installation tweak somewhere in the video to get the amp to work properly with the OEM NAV unit. He also has another video on upgrading the NAV Maps too.

SWEET!! I have heard that due to the canbus fiber optics running through the head unit, any aftermarket unit causes you to loose the various warning and caution sounds, including the turn signal clicks, that all run through that system? Have not confirmed this, but I can confirm that having the head unit disconnected does result in the car no longer being able to start. Apparently the head unit is used in the process of the initial system boot and self test before allowing the car to be started? Looping the optics together would likely resolve this, but why bother, when the OEM unit looks awesome, especially the SAAB logo onscreen. Wondering if there is a way to update the maps? Maybe someone has cracked this using an old update disk and recoding a new one? Gonna look into that. Thanks for posting this!!

On 2007 and older you're definitely correct. 2008+ that's not an issue. 07 and older it's still "technically" possible, if you put in the effort to mount the factory head unit in the dash to keep the computer happy. IMO, it's not worth the effort. Sure wasn't on my 05.

Can you help me figure out what’s wrong with my saab? I drive a turbo4 btw. Recently put in a new battery in late Feb/early March after cold weather killed my other one. Totally installed correctly & even had AAA check it to be sure. But now if I hit any sort of bump (pothole big or small, uneven road, etc) my radio cuts out (usually comes back on in a few seconds) or my ABS & sometimes parking brake signal light up on my dash & my speedometer needle might fall to zero before going back up or both (speedometer stuff & radio together) I could be driving at 50+ mph & it’ll do this even if I drive over the smallest bump. Today it did it a bunch while I was driving and once came up and said “locked” on my radio & I couldn’t accelerate for about 5ish seconds & then a second time my radio turned off but decided it didn’t feel like turning back on and I drove the last 15 mins home in silence. What’s going on? Any insight is appreciated greatly.
