I believe it's time for me to be famous
And out of place.
I believe it's time for me to move for forward
When I break through.
When I break through.
When I break through.
When I break through.
This time I'll make you
Proud to see me over come on day light.
Proud of who you raised.
Your shelter, your peacefulness.
So this time I'll make you proud.
Proud of who you raised up.
You know that I will always be here 'til the end.
Come back so I can say thank you for this.
Home cooked meals and a place to rest
My troubled head when you're away.
I've passed the test, I've earned an A,
Not just in school, but in life.
You'll always be right by my side
To help me show hope to all
That are lost and sick in this dying world.
I'll use the love you left behind,
I'll change their minds, I'll change their minds.
I hope, I hope you smile
When you look down on me.
I hope you smile.
This can't, we won't know.
I hope that I make you proud.
This is not what it is, only baby scars.
I need your love like a boy needs his mother's side.
This is not what it is, only baby scars.
I need your love like a boy needs his mother's side.
This is not what it is, only baby scars.
I need your love like a boy needs his mother's side.

I was listening to this song and my mom said, "They sound like they're worshiping the devil." And replied, "Mom, this song is for Austin's mother. She died when he was young and he wrote this song to thank her for raising and showing him love. You call it demonic because you hear screaming. I call it beauty because I hear the meaning."

Story time: I was in Afghanistan on a base and found an iPod in the gym near the squat rack. It was a small silver square shuffle (buttons only) with pink earbuds. I told the guy working to put a sign up and where to find me if someone came looking for it. After 4 weeks no one claimed it. I decided to finally see what music was on it. THIS WAS THE FIRST SONG IT PLAYED. You know how hard it was to figure out what sing this was?! Anyways, rock on. Kick ass. And do work.

This is one of the greatest love songs of all time. Not between the obvious "boy and girl" trope but mother and son which is, as the song makes clear, something so powerful to change lives and move worlds. If you don't shed a tear when the old man holds his red super hero cape for a final time you have no soul. Epic.

While I do agree Pauley is doing a kick ass job with what hes given and I love his vocals, the band will never amount to what it did with Austin and more so with Shayley. Now for me it was the instrumentation and the smooth and rough vocals mixed so perfectly that made the band. Shay and Austin was just so important to the whole thing. Also yes Austin is understandable if you read the lyrics and arent a lazy piece of shit.

One of the only songs that can genuinely make me tear up. Once the song hits "I hope I make you proud..." and on, it really gets me. It's so well-written in lyrics, vocals, and instrumentals, but that type of perfection can only be written through true emotion. The message of the song is positive--him [Austin] honoring his mother, remembering her, finding happiness and success, and finding peace and acceptance in her death yet has those raw undertones of pain, sorrow, and how much he misses her.
@Mister0Eel
@Mister0Eel 26 күн бұрын
your comment is fairly old, but this song is forever so who cares. I'm completely with you. There's just so much emotion there expressed beautifully. unrelated but also completely related, i recently discovered Lorna Shore and their pain remains trilogy (last three songs of the pain remains album) absolutely hit the same spot. The whole album is extremely emotional but the last three songs always put me over the edge. As you implied, very few songs are able to hit so down to the core and it's so magical when it happens so i wanted to share

I'm so sorry. I last out at my mom on a daily basis and I hate it. I can't get it thru my head that she's in her 60's and things that she does that come with old age are gonna get worse Apparently I have anger issues, I'm starting classes on Tuesday. I've asked her for help. Things she says will usually trigger me and I'll yell At her :( I tell her not to wash my clothes and she will reply in a mean tone "ok you told me already" But she keeps doin it!!!! I get mad because she's lost of my clothes Idk wtf she does with it. So many band shirts that I lost. I know materialistic things. Why does she keep washing it? And going into my room? I've. Told her over and over qnd over not to go into my room and she keeps doing it too. Is she trying to piss me off? Or is it simply that she doesn't care about how she makes me feel? I hate treating my mother this way. Sometimes I wish she would've swallowed me. She's never listened to me since I was a kid. Sometimes she tells me "I shouldve listened to u" and that bothers me because she never has. Call me dirty idc. I rather have my clothes dirty in my hamper Where I know it's safe Than to lose socks and all my white clothes I rather her not come into my room And clean it because she throws away things without giving a fuck. She makes me feel crazy You think I'ma miss all this shit? No probably but I'll miss her. i hate her honestly.

This takes me back. I was in high school when this song came out. I remember hearing this and gave my mother a hug. Then a couple years later (2012) I lost my mother I was 17 years old. Now I understand this song more than ever. I can connect with the pain and anger in his vocals. So much passion. My advice to the younger lads and those who still have their parents, dont take it for granted. Especially your mother. Love your mother with all your heart.

2007-2011 were the golden years of metalcore IMO. Nowadays it seems like the bands that are still around from the mid-late 2000's are trying to incorporate too much pop while trying to be heavy, the screamers have worn their voices so much that when they do their cleans (or perform live), you can tell they're struggling, or they've done a genre-shift to a sound that does not appeal to *me.* Will miss these days.

OM&M left a bad taste in my mouth after Carlile left the band and became a Jesus freak and says "the ten years in the band were the worst ten years of my life." Ok that's fine dude, but don't make it sound like the band was the reason it was so bad, you treated your bodily horribly and were addicted to drugs and alcohol. Worst ten years of your life because you chose to make it that way, the devil didn't do anything to him, it's called being a human. Humans are different people when money, drugs and sex are presented constantly. Carlile needs to say the truth which is, he wasn't a strong enough person to turn down temptation. Glad he's gone, good riddance, saw the band live last month and they are doing just fine without him.

August 11, 2019 I lost my father. He was riding his bike in Natchez Trace, which is what he loved doing, and had a massive heart attack and died almost instantly. I wish I could see him one more time, give him a hug, tell him I love him, or call him. Sitting in the hospital next to his body really wrecked me and I just wish he was here so bad. I know this song is more about losing a mother, but it really has me thinking about my Dad. I sure hope I do nothing but make him proud and smile. I really pray that I will one day see him again. But for now this song will always hit me a little bit differently. Todd Hunter Binkley, thank you for being an amazing father and I hope I do knowing but make you proud of the son you raised in me. Rest In Peace you beautiful soul, I love you!

Yes, that's the reason that Austin wrote the song, however music always has a different interpretation to the listener. Personally, I see this song as him telling people to hold the people that you love close to you, and to never forget the people they made you into, because one day they will be gone and you want bright memories to fill the space they once were.

DakodaSeth And you're probably right, because I have only been listening to this genre for 2 years now. But I really don't care. I've heard harder breakdowns from other bands, but this had a moment that builds to start explaining it's message. Don't get me wrong there are other bands that do that too. I enjoy music mostly for the lyrics. Hard instrumentals and screams ain't gonna be the only thing I have going for me when listening to songs. My personal preferential feeling to enjoy music is lyricism.

its so weird, this genre will never ever be like this again. bands like of mice and men, attack attack, the devil wears prada, we came as romans, jamies elsewhere sky eats airplanes, ... they all were so good back in the day. not to say that they aren't still good, but, they changed. not necessarily for good or for bad. but never again will bands make music that sounds like this to us. any of the newer bands immediately get dismissed as being "generic" or "unoriginal", and there are SOOO many now. I miss the times when I'd go for walks, turn on my ipod and play the of mice and men album start to back because it was new. oh well, that's just me reminiscing.

when i say "back in the day" i mean a couple of years ago, we all thought these bands were good. and now a lot of us have grown up and realized they aren't very special musically, but they still have a big place in our hearts.

There's a couple of bands still making music somewhat similar to this. A personal favourite is 'For All Those Sleeping'.

HarbingerOfTruth1 Well, i don't know about you, but they are unique in their own style. They have their own style of structure, riffs, etc. You can't call them generic or unoriginal.

Jaehyun Shim I'm pretty sure I can and they can't really be considered original either. Of course all bands are unique just as all individuals are unique, that doesn't mean that can't be generic.

Heard this song before, thought it was really good. Decided to read the lyrics while I listen to it, made me cry first time around.

I dreamt about someone singing this song, woke up and had to listen to it. Tomorrow is a significant birthday and now I think I’ll spend my last day in this year listening to the sound of my youth. Still, this lets me know how much my son needs me now…

I’ve always loved this song but never knew the lyrics. Today I read the lyrics and just started crying. Lost my mother 3 years ago and I miss her still. Thank you. I love this song even more now ❤ And my condolences to you, if you also lost someone.
