It's hard to top Only Fools and Horses... but I'd had another idea, an episode of the Trotters staying at Fawlty Towers, along with Mr. Bean and the Buckets from Keeping Up Appearances. Del Boy opens a casino in Torquay, and Basil is all excited to cash in on "Torquay's latest super-magnet of tourism." Hyacinth is itching to go on holiday at Torquay's "most prestigious, most exclusive 'overnight club','" only to be drastically disappointed at such a "run-down, second-rate kiwi house." It doesn't help that her family suddenly shows up and she makes every effort to avoid them. Rodney and Rose hit off a romantic fling. Uncle Albert and the Major hit up an inevitable friendship, sharing war stories. Mr. Bean is taken for a "Lord Bean of London," and his antics are interpreted as "upper class snobbery."

Dead don’t forget mate, shows don’t go on for this long. Some don’t quite last till the very end. It almost happened to OFAH when Lennard Pierce passed away, but luckily Ray Sullivan found Buster Merryfield to replace Granddad with Uncle Albert. What an absolute genius.
@Fireglo4 жыл бұрын
@@Granticus Granddad was a secondary character. He wasn't really needed. The show was really about Del and Rodney, it wouldn't have worked without either of them but the show could certainly survive without Granddad. That isn't to bash Granddad he was a great character but was he crucial to the show? No.

L R without a doubt the series gradually deteriorated with time; hands down the greatest TV comedy of all time but once they got domesticated, it was never quite as good; the chandelier scene, the hand gliding episode, the poker game with Boycie, Rodney Joy Riding, uncle Albert when he had the dog medicine, ad infinitum, the last few specials were really not a patch on the classics...

Certainly was. Especially for those of us who live in Margate. Altho a lot of it was filmed along the seafront, at the railway station and at Dreamland, most of it was filmed (all during the summer) at various parts of the town and Ramsgate Indeed towards the end when they arrive back, the coach pulls up and Rodney gets off and walks towards his home (a block of flats) this is (I still live there) two hundred yards from my house. It took a whole afternoon for this scene to be filmed and we have a lot of memories and photos of all the cast especially David and Nicholas chatting to and mingling with (quite happily) all the locals. They were always like this wherever they turned up to film. Great Stars...Genuine People.

Nothing against the final 3 episodes, but this was where they should’ve left off. The story arc was phenomenal and the final trilogy was kinda unnecessary. they should have NEVER made anything after that episode. it was all their dreams come true, and that was the end of the show. but they made more and said they'd lost all their money, that was a stupid idea, and it ruined the show in my opinion. the episodes after that were funny, but not necessary. THIS was the PERFECT end!
@tomwakley57194 жыл бұрын
Actually it wasn't all their dreams come true. Not really. Cassandra had suffered a miscarriage previously and she and Rodney still wanted a child of their own. Money isn't everything.
@tomwakley57194 жыл бұрын
@ANT 123 In my opinion, yes and no. I just don't think having all those riches and luxuries suited the Trotters. Seeing Rodney and Cassandra becoming parents was far better than just assuming that they would later on down the line. Leaving the series here would have sent out the wrong message that money is the be all and end all. It's just that I found Del and Rodney having enough money to live comfortably and each with a family of their own much more heartwarming than having mere wealth and splendour.
@surindersingh7243 жыл бұрын
Tom Wakley You need to rewatch the episode again. It didn’t end with the message that money is the be all and end all at all. It ended showing Del Trotter already completely bored with his riches and admitting that the wheeling, dealing and chasing was his favourite thing about his life. Not being a millionaire. It also hints that he could indeed lose it all anyway because he wanted to continue with Trotters Independent Traders and expand it rather than retire rich. Albert was onboard and you just know Del would’ve convinced Rodney into some new scheme. It was indeed the most PERFECT ending and they never should’ve bothered with those AWFUL 3 follow up episodes.
