This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound kzbin.infoUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.

A great sear with no charcoal flavor. I’ll stick to my Weber kettle with a slow n sear and grill grates. You can get a fantastic sear with grill grates and especially if you flip them upside down.

My wife bought me one (on my suggestion!) and I LOVE it. Still working out the cooking nuances to not overcook my steaks since it cooks so hot. Makes a great pizza too, with their stone!

High heat grills like O.F.B, Beefer or WeGrill are making sense, not only for steak's. One criteria is the price, maybe the WeGrill (Young or Folding) is a good compromise. I have a WeGrill Folding and it works from my point of view perfect..

It's a pretty good item if you want to Pittsburgh a steak but I'm thinking there aren't a lot of other uses. Maybe to caramelize creme brûlée or brown a coquille st Jacques. The regular broiler I have in the Thermador oven works pretty good for most applications. Pretty cool unit for the hipster cook.

Great review, very through and complete. I agree with some other comments that the gas knobs are in an awkward space. In a perfect world they would be on the front (maybe right side toward the front panel). This is NOT a toaster oven. Way better. I would also recommend these for making hoagies or sub sandwiches. Not like Subway, you guys get that. I mean real sandwiches, BIG, toasted bread, sliced smoked ham, sliced tender brisket, pork belly, etc. Toast (heat that up in there) don't forget your favorite cheese maybe Swiss. A little dressing then topped with choice of peppers a little onion slightly broiled up from this machine. Finish with lettuce, tomato etc. You get the idea, when it's done and you pick it up it should feel just a little heavy in your hand and drip a little juice, and then forget all your cares and just chow down. You put this in your back yard every neighbor will be over in no time or maybe in a food truck I would think you should do ok. IMHO

Hey Bro! Great job on this review! Salamanders are the go to means of cooking in almost all of the high end restaurants…. because they make great steaks. This is an excellent home version…… but will I buy….. no. A cast iron grate and a propane torch in hand, will work for me. I'm poor,… what can I say. \m/

I have that grill and it really is not easy to use. If you sear your steak and then need to rest in an "indirekt" zone to get to your desired core temperature, that is the difficult moment. if you only have one steak in there, you can turn off one burner and rest your steak on that side. but if you have two steaks or more when grilling for friends and family, you simply have too much heat. you cannot leave the grill alone. even on the low position of the grill plate it is very near to the heat. well i am not giving up yet, but i have spoiled some nice meat because it was overdone in the end. so to use this "beast" to its full potential, you need to learn new techniques. maybe completely turning off the nurners would be an option, but there is no lid to close the grill, so you loose the temp fast. unfortunately, on all the tests and unboxings i found on youtube, everyone is amazed by the high heat, but this practical problem never comes to speak.

this is way overpriced. In the US it is $1300 but could easily be made for $200-300 (I am an engineer). I wouldn't buy it as the infrared elements create uneven heat - there is a cold zone between the elements which does not result in a uniform sear. I would instead check out the Northfire Inferno which comes in 3 or 4 models. The comparable models is available in the US for $450 to $500 and is also a much better design. No cold spots and much easier to clean.

They have a newer less expensive unit that is $700. Same heat profile, but instead of the 'steeples' mechanism, cuts in the unit to move up and down. I did purchase this (Otto Light) but haven't received it yet. Yeah, $1200 is a hard price to swallow for many, $700 might be the hot ticket considering you get the same heat, but can't remove the top. Same size as the $1200 unit.

Does anyone have an gas oven and a broiling pan? Turn your broiler on high and place your rack to the highest level. The flames will almost be touching the steak 2 inch filet 3min each side you'll save $1000.00 your welcome

I like this one best as far as these type of machines ist concerned. I think it gives you more opportunities than the rather small Beefer and is better quality than the WeGrill. I would love to have one!!! Would I buy it? No, I don't rather do so many steaks that it would make sense even if I could afford it. And there are quite some other things on my wishlist before I would buy this machine with this price point.

A broiler is only supposed to be the "finishing touches" though, right? Ovens seem to work perfectly fine for that. But, if this is specifically steaks and chicken, it might be a good idea. But, truth be told, its kind the same thing, just flipping the fire. I guess it has its useages. Dunno if I'd actually get one since I'm happy with the final product on the grill. Only time I actually use BROIL is the final touches of my duck breasts I think. Rarely ever use it.

“Charcoal barbecue” is the ONLY real flavour of barbecue. Everything else is a compromise. The only time I ise a gas BBQ is during summers when we in Ajstralia have fire restrictions and bans due to fire risk. come winters, and I do woodfire barbecue at least once every week and sometimes twice weekly. Also, I donr get this myrh od searing on very high temp hot grill or flame. A well heated cast iron grill at medium to medium high heat is the way to go otherwise it chars the surface of steak.

Ok $1200 for grill that bearly fits one steak? I understand it goes up to 900°C but give me a break ... its not even that well made. I can make perfect steak on my $699.00 Weber and actually grill 8-10 steaks at ones while cooking other stuff.
