Photography is such an interesting and creative industry and that’s because of light. Using light or not, allows you to be as creative as you want. From controlling every bit of light in a photo to adding a little here and there to using only the natural light available.
In this video I shoot 2 photos, 1 with just the natural light around and then one adding a flash to enhance the model I show you comparisons and the final edit of the photo so you can truly see the difference.

Which do you prefer? Natural Light or w/ the added Flash?

Something you might want to try? Put a piece of painters tape covering the four flash data contacts on the camera hotshoe leaving ONLY the main large central firing contact exposed. Now you will have Exposure Simulation working WITH the flash/trigger on. Then just adjust the cam setting for the ambient you want and adjust the flash trigger settings as needed to light the model

Why would covering the contacts do that? Is it limiting the data it’s transferring so you don’t have to turn the transmitter on and off?

Yes...its not letting the camera even know there is a flash being used. Thats why you lose Exposure Simulation when a flash or trigger is attached. The camera says "I don't know what flash power you are using"... so it doesn't even try to show you the exposure. But you do not want the camera to show you what the flash will do, you want to see the ambient exposure and that has zero to do with the flash. SO ....hide the flash from the camera by covering the data contacts. The main contact is still active for when you press the shutter to fire it. You set the flash setting via the radio trigger so that all works perfectly. The only disadvantage to doing this is you cant use the flash in auto mode ( which I never do) and you cant use hispeed sync or 2nd curtain sync ( Which I rarely use) For the rare times you do need those functions....peel the tape off :)@@willsimpsonphoto

Back when I shot with my Canon and worked with models and magazines, I always shot with 💯 natural light. In my honest opinion there should be zero reason to ever use an external flash. Now I have since gotten into iPhone photography and the only time I use external light is only in my small studio and when I am shooting still life. Yes, I still shoot models and yes, I still only use natural light.

Thats really amazing! Definitely has two different looks and depending on what someone wants, depends on the light that I use. Thats really cool what you do!
