MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
Video of icebox:
Video of Gas Refrigerator:
Propane Freezer:
Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

We used your bucket trap, we live in a row of bungalows and rats were running between the homes. We caught 3 rats the first night! We cured the rat problem in one week, no rats in our housing complex now! We lost count how many we caught. The exterminator who had previously been called out couldn't cure our problem. He now uses the bucket trick as well. So thank you from the UK 🙂

Agree 100% I "had" squirrels move into my attic and yes wire damage. Those city folks have no idea because they live in a world of non experience. I love nature UNTIL my family is at risk. That being said I Do Not feed birds near the house as this too attracts the critter's. This year I have an on going battle with Chipmunks - gerrrrr those little guys can really cause structure damage I've made the mouse trap you suggested and it works. Good common sense!

Boss, couldn't agree more. Mice are vermin, they spread disease. I built some bucket traps for my camp in minnesota, and no more mice in the trailer. Your advice could potentially be saving lives. Keep up the good work! Sunday morning is a cup a tea and checking in with the Boss of the swamp.

Mice got into my dresser drawers, while I was away for a few weeks one autumn. They ate holes in all my winter clothes pissed and crapped all throughout, ruined everything in the 5 drawers. To replace all these expensive clothes took a couple of years. I put fine metal wire mesh across the bottom of the dresser so they could never get back in there. I used bucket and snap traps for the whole winter to get rid of the little bastards - I then got a cat as well.

Hello Boss: First of all, THANK YOU for starting off this video with that bird jumping onto your finger! My late mom would have been crying with joy to see that. She loved birds, especially hummingbirds, and to have seen that bird on your finger would have thrilled her! So thanks again for showing it! You quoted others as saying that you are "in tune with nature." Yes, sir! And after I'm settled into my northern property, I, in my own way, will become "in tune with nature" as well -- and making videos to share the experience and journey with others. Thank you again for being such a great inspiration, as we strive to follow in your footsteps. And yes, I'll be certain to link back to your videos. Especially where the beloved Kitchen Queen and cast-iron cooking is concerned! Concerning the bucket traps, I have a humorous story to share: My parents once had a mouse infestation in their home, and it took awhile to trap the little varmints out. I remember visiting, and while in my old bedroom heard a snap trap go off. I looked in the closet and there was a mouse! It had gotten so far into the trap before triggering it that the snap-bar came down on his back! So, being the "son of an engineer" I decided the most efficient (and humane) thing to do was flush it down the toilet. So, as the mouse literally "circled the drain," it came back to life and started trying to swim with its front paws; but there was no movement from the back paws because the snap had broken its back. I then went downstairs where my Dad and sister Dorothy were at the kitchen counter, to tell them we caught another mouse. I told them I flushed it down the drain. My Dad's reaction was, "Why? We have a 'mouse cemetery' going on in the front planter!" But Dorothy's reaction was altogether different. She flared up and said, "was that the flushing sound I just heard?" I said, "Yes -- and you should have seen him swim for his life as he went down the drain!" Dad gave me the "stink-eye" as Dorothy started crying, saying "I didn't need to hear that, Bill!" Oops. So, I quickly recovered by saying, "Dor, the poor mouse's back was broken from the trap. It was more humane to quickly end his life than to plant him, alive, in the cemetery outside!" She thought about that, stopped crying, and said, "yeah, you're probably right." My Dad then looked back at me with look that telegraphed, "damn good recovery there, Bill." BWAHAHA!!! So, thanks again for the Sunday update! Enjoying my coffee, dreaming of life up north, wile wishing all the best and God's blessings to you, Lori, Frankie and Tildy -- and that little birdie!

I started using the bucket method. First two weeks about four mice in the buckets about every other day . Was out of town 3 weeks . So I sit out 20 buckets . When I got back . One bucket had 42 mice in it ! ...other had 20 or 25 mice . Smallest amount had 15 . This the cleanest most effective most full proof way to trap and get rid of mice . Thank you !

But when it comes to keeping my life and my dogs lives safe in preventing my house and everything I own safe. Or thousands and thousands of dollars in repair bills in protecting your newer vehicles....your bucket mice kill trap is the perfect solution. So even if those individuals were honestly coming from a good intentional place, and not just being asses....screw them and anyone else that wants to judge and insult with stupidity. Keep being you, and please keep telling us what you find works. Love you guys...blessings.

Heellooo Boss man!!!! I am a very recent sub, but wanted to say I love your content, you logic and your knowledgeable info you impart to us!!! I am a 47 yr old woman, have lived all of my life in two central southern states and at least 15 years of my living having been off grid either completely or partially and not all at one time, they were broke up, while I was younger...best time of my life and I am working towards doing so again and will remain as such for the remainder of my life!!! I am sorry to hear you need surgery, and I am glad you are going to get to improve your quality and quantity of life!!! I just found you!!! LOL!!! My father passed when he was 42 and you remind me a lot, A LOT of him! I was only kidding of course about the selfish I just found you, Of course if you are ready it is completely your right to go if it is time, though I must also say, I do not see this as being anywhere near your time to go, or suffer in a mix up from the surgery...I see you as being just fine....and better for having it!!! Might I suggest in prep for freezing winter getting as many as you can of empty frosting/icing buckets from any bakery as they are food grade quality and easy to clean! Then fill and store as many as you can get and/or will need with water to get you thru the winter months or at minimum a 6 weeks after surgery then you should be okay if still needing to hawl water after that! And thus you can have the surgery right after hunting season!!! The reason I suggest these buckets is many times they can be free, other times they range from $1 - $2 each so not too expensive! If you store on porch or in garage and they freeze, then just bring in the one to two however many needed each morning or evening for that day or following day before the last one you're using empties and thus they will have time to defrost!!! I hope this gives you an option to not wait too long on the surgery!!! And of course keep the buckets once empty for the next load of needed water for the cold spells and to use year after year...to make things more manageable! It would also be good to paint them black or dark if saving water for power loss or pump break down and thus in warm weather algae will be unable to grow!!! Thanks BossMan. I always look forward to your Sunday videos. And love that bucket mouse trap...easy, effective, and clean too. No need to handle dead rodents as you would with a conventional trap. I know you can wear gloves, but who wants to touch them!! Have a great week!

The bucket traps definitely work. Much easier to deal with the dead mice too. We're two weeks from gun season here, and winter's getting closer. Had our first dusting of snow all ready. Nice cool day-working on cutting down a birch tree that died in the yard. Saw some chaga on it! I love working outside in this weather. Have a good week, Boss.

Nice way to start the day - enjoying nature. I talk to the chic-a-dees in their language. They get a kick out of it ; ) I've experienced the chipmunk bandits too; a cable makes good sense because those little buggers will chew a branch off to get at their prize : O No problem here with your cure for mouse elimination. I had a mouse problem more than once & if I had the opportunity to relocate them, I would; however, they love to shit in my utensil drawer & that means war! LOL One mouse made the mistake of slipping into my kitchen sink hole where the garbage disposal is and a flip of the switch did the job. Quick fix. I like the bucket idea & will use it if necessary, TY. Awww, thanks for the Tildy & Frankie update (so cute). Love it. I also love NH. It is the one place that draws a smile the minute my eyes see the mountains ; ) God bless.

Another great video. Wanted to let you know that Sat I built and installed a cooler box in my off grid cabin. Works like a charm. Thx. I found you on you tube last winter while I was recovering from double hip replacement. You and Frankie got me thru the many days of recovery when about all I could do was twiddle my thumbs. My prayers will be with you while you attack and win this next challenge you have with your health.

I used your bucket trap method several weeks ago and gonna make more. Those buckets work great. Besides that I like feeding the hawks too. My border Collies get excited now whenever I set the bucket trap...peanut butter....win, win, win.

Many people may not agree with or even understand the "Gun carrying thing" Boss BUT it's about CHOICE :) I do not feel the need to carry a weapon in the Pennsylvania town that I live in but that is MY choice :) When the government makes that choice or decision for you then you really are not free ;)

The beginning with the bird on your hand is priceless!!!! Never mind the mouse lovers, they probably don't have any due to the exterminators in the city 😂 I put peanuts in my half empty rain barrel but it rained again, filled it to overflow, ugh......
