Hi Kris....I found the way to really get earth plaster to stick was to thoroughly wet the earth bags first...the night before, the morning of, and just before you plaster... helps to really chuck it at the wall with force too. Fun! Your work is awe inspiring .

These are great videos. It really helps people get the sense of the scope of work, which you don't really see in a time lapse. The level of detail you are putting into the cob explanation is also helpful for anyone who plans to attempt this themselves. I do want to say tho, your level fitness that you consider 'out of shape' is probably the goal of many Americans. Glad to see you take it seriously, but don't stress too much about it. I doubt most of us could do what you do everyday.

I wish I lived over in Whales so I could go visit and see this amazing development you have made for yourself.. I'm in Ontario Canada about 2 hours south of Toronto so it's a bit far as I don't enjoy traveling really haha... I love your chickens by the way lol... I really love all the progress you're making ... can't wait to see when you build the bigger house as well!! I'm working on getting caught up on all the videos you've done.. so far I got through all the stuff after this video and working my way through, most recent to oldest Playlist but i intend to watch all your stuff man.. would love if you could comment even if just a simple thanks for the comment or whatever 🙂 I'm fascinated by your videos mate

My neighbour put a trimmer in an oil drum and fed it straw bit by bit, seemed to break up the fibers really well and made a strong final layer with minimal cracking that could just be whitewashed - no lime plaster needed, just a lot of labour to apply it. The older folks in the village remember how mud plaster used to be made with threshing residues but they say the plaster had to 'shine' when it went on, so they must have mixed it very wet and rich in clay - with the right fiber size and quantity I suppose that's easier and allows for higher clay content and greater workability. My old mud walls have three layers, a rough cracked low straw high clay layer, a more straw rich layer and a final skim of fiber rich plaster made with a different earth only about 5mm thick.

"The workshop is not really exercice for me anymore.". I'm exhausted just watching you! I'm amazed by your will to go forward, keep going! For your limestone patches, I'd suggest to moisture the wall first. It should then be very resistant once dried out. Regarding the time in the year, unless it freezes early, you probably still have a bit of time.

Ty for teaching us the correct mix for cob. I have always wondered..... our soil has a lot more clay content than yours, and needs a little more sand in the mixture.... also, as we do not have straw available, we use our common bush grass, which works perfectly. One again ty for this video.
