Off-Grid Homestead - Hard Work?

Gridlessness

Күн бұрын

A lot of people wonder if an off-grid homestead is too much hard work. It certainly could be, especially if you learn a lot of things the hard way... like we did. But a modern off-grid homestead doesn't have to be too hard, a little hard work is rewarding and, well, its kind of what we're looking for isn't it!? Some good, honest, work!?
Over the years we've invested in a couple hardworking, homestead machines including the Bobcat Toolcat with grapple and Woodmizer LT15. We've never had anything against machines, especially well designed and well made ones!
Check out the girls handiwork on our website:

I know I’ve said this before but dang, those girls can do anything / everything. I’m sure plenty of boys there age can’t do half of what these girls master. They have been brought up in such a way that they will most likely never be unable to fend for themselves in almost any situation. That is an education worth it’s weight in gold. Greetings from Québec City!

Hi there luv the vids your girls are amazing. Just a quick tip I always have a garden blower when burning piles as it makes the fire burn really hot cheers from Tasmania
@japphan
@japphan 3 жыл бұрын
You didn't really try much with the fires, I guess it's not very urgent, and you have other things to do, but still, important to do before everything dries up. For wet and frozen wood, you need to tend the fire, move material towards the heat. Pile stuff on top of the flames, since it won't spread sideways at the start. it helps to start as far in the center as you can. Cheers! PS: I know you guys got this, just sharing some knowledge from making and tending to fires in all types of conditions. You can always keep a fire burning if you have the wood and an open flame. The energy in the wood _far_ outweighs the extra energy needed to melt and evaporate. Don't give up on your fire if you need it.

That's another nice life story of the off grid luxury from your blessed family Jeff. Since most of your doughters use tools and spinning motors, may i suggest to take precautions on your doughters hair. stuck hair in hi rpm motor are the last you want to hear. There's one case of my friends, her hair stuck in boat propeller and (very bad head scalp removed) in simple word "hair and hi speed motor don't mix well" Keep happy familly and spread love from BC Jeff and family, regards

The arial views show just how much you and your girls have done to make your land productive. In a little more than a decade you have taken a bare patch of wilderness and created a homestead you can be proud of. Just goes to show what an amazing asset pure human labour can be. In the old days farmers used to pray for strong young sones to help them in the fields. Anybody watching these videos, and just starting out on their homestead, will be praying for a family of strong capable girls to help them. They never cease to amaze me!
