I Estimate the total cost of the setup to be around $5,000. That Includes everything that I had to buy from start to finish. Check out Redodo Lithium Batteries! Discount Code: GUS www.redodopower.com/?ref=kpt00fas

Great videos! I’m currently installing lithium batteries and a SUNGOLDPOWER 6kW inverter/charger/transfer switch into my gulfstar 44 motor yacht. I went with four 200 amp 24 volt batteries in series/parallel for a total of 400 amps x 48 volts = 19.2 kW of power which is more than enough to supply the 6kW inverter. I see one problem with your setup. You have two 100 amp 24 volt batteries in series for 48 volts but you’re limited to 100 amps total because that’s all the battery management systems will allow. So you have 100 amps x 48 volts = 4.8kW of power driving a 6.5kW inverter. You need more power from your battery bank.
@InTooDeepBro

@@kdorang thank you for watching! The batteries are not 24 Volts, they are 48Volt Batteries. According to the manual it’s over 4x recommended minimum capacity.
@kdorang
@kdorang Жыл бұрын
@@InTooDeepBro Ah my bad. So you have them in parallel for 48 volts and 200 amps. That gives you 9600 kW which is more than enough for your 6500 watt inverter. Keep up the great videos!

Wiring tips, go to a home store plumbing dept and get plastic pipe J hook hangers. They come in all the normal pipe sizes 1/2" up to 2 or 3" . They're dirt cheap can be cut to lengths to mount/run wires in all ways. It's a J so easy to get wires on/off and zip tie down to secure. Also use dielectric grease on all wire connections for years of trouble free connections.

If you’ve never worked on a boat, you may not understand how much insanely hard and crazy, work goes into doing this. A MASSIVE amount of tedious, cramped spaces to work in. And a billion unexpected issues that come up every step of the way. Awesome video.

When one is serious about implementing this to one of your own,no,NONE of this is boring, and actually reviewed portions of this ( the electrical system) several times. I can no longer fly as pilot due to my age,but rather than cry about it , I can enjoy the idea of taking ownership of an older,but classic(and beautiful)Hatteras like yourself. Your wonderful drive has brought you something most your age could never imagine and am sincerely happy for you. Your videos are so close and personal, that often when you point out something like "so you see this?" I'm responding "Yea. What's that?" Out loud as if I'm in the engine room or wherever with you.😅 God bless you pal.😉👍

Great work setting up your system, I custom built a 12kWh LiFePO4 battery bank for my boat and have not looked back since. Lead acids are only for engine starting now. One small tip is to put the negative and positive wires on different batteries if you're doing parallel setups where high amp draws are likely to be often. It helps make sure both batteries charge/discharge evenly, else you might find the bottom battery with both conductors on it is discharging faster than the top battery. Will Prowse has a good video on setting up parallel battery banks.

Gus, you never cease to amaze your viewers. You have managed to become very knowledgeable about complex electrical systems and management through plain hard work. When faced with a project that would daunt 95% of boat owners, you just dive in and "git'r done." Very impressive. Thank you for the thorough video and spoken details about your planning and installation process. Some of the details went over my head but I found it all interesting and informative. Really looking forward to the videos about the trip north. Hope you installed a heater on the Hatt -- very cold in RI for the past few weeks.

The Setups that use 6 - 8 batteries are likely 12 Volt arrangements. One 48 Volt 100AH Battery is equivalent to 4 100AH 12V batteries.

Very nice job. One small point to consider in wiring the lithium banks is to wire the positive wire to one battery bank and the negative wire to the other battery bank. This would balance the small voltage drop in the parallel wiring method between the two batteries. Obviously with 48 V and large gauge wire this voltage drop is very small even when charging and discharging at high current but is a point to consider. John
