Totally agree with septic first. Eric, you are the very definition of OFF GRID and do it better than anyone I've seen... You keep making videos, I'll keep watching. Travel, homesteading, off gridding, all the reviews you've done over the years, wow. You've made all of it interesting.

Looking good Eric. I'm one of those followers that enjoy seeing what your doing at base camp over travel videos but don't stop traveling. Isn't it just amazing how people just have to pick pick pick. Your definitely off grid in my eyes and if a person can do it, it is the only way to go. Enjoy.

Eric, I’m so glad you decided on a home base. You are being responsible in taking care of yourself and the kitties. Your place is beautiful and you are accomplishing very important things to be self-reliant. Two things still concern me: 1) not sure you have enough water. Please consider storing a lot more; 2) food, yes food. I hope you can prepare with storing food enough for at least 6 months. Just my thoughts.

We’re full time RV’ers now but want a place to stay half of the year and travel the rest. We don’t want a house ever again. We enjoy the off grid and riding videos the most also.

Adding septic first i think was the right thing to do. Having nothing on the property and digging to put the septic in made it more than likely easier to do. If you would have waited and had babe the blue box in the way, it would have been more difficult. I find this quite interesting, how you are developing the property. I am definitely taking notes for sure. You look like you had a good plan going in.

I traveled for years with three cats and they knew the motorhome where ever it was was home, It took time for me to trust that they wouldn't go very far and would always come home, but they did always come home. BUT I always made sure of where we were and the dangers of the area, like cars and coyotes and people. love your off grid experiences. None of mine were sprinters but hunters they were and might have traveled farther to hunt if I didn't watch them.

Hi Eric. Been watching you in the background for years now. Just a suggestion for your batteries come winter. I'd be sure to have a heater for the batts but be sure to set that heater at 40 degrees because if the BMS does shut them off from charging they have to attain 40+ degrees to recover and allow charging again. I know because I bought a couple of lithium 200+ AH last spring and had issues with being too cold to allow charging. Almost burnt up my controllers because they aren't lithium specific and were going crazy because they had no place to send their power to.

And plus as a Nomad for 14 years, I've learned that nobody knows what to do with "full time RVers" when the unknown comes. Like covid - All us full time RVs at the Thousand Trails were initially told to "shelter in place"... Which was fine until Mayor DeSantes then said, "all you RVers need to go back home immediately"... Well, what does that mean exactly? We're already "home".... and you said to shelter in place. For the MILLIONS of full-time RVs without a stick and brick home, we were so confused and scared, unsure what to do with contradicting information coming out. If sh*t hits the fan again, I've got a place to comfortably go back to.

One thing you want to be careful about is that the max discharge rate for one of these 12v batteries is 200amps and since you put them in series, you're still limited to max 200 amps at 12 volt per battery... that means you can only safely draw 2400 watt or less from this setup. Your inverter can do 10000 watt and even at 30amp max going into your RV, you could be in a situation where you're potentially drawing up to 3600 watt (or more if you have loads in the shed or when powering guests)... so there's a possibility you could majorly overload those individual batteries... now, their BMS might shut them off before damage, but I would not count on it. Better upgrade your batteries at some point to real 48v server rack batteries (4 in parallel would be good).
@TheCruisinCrew
@TheCruisinCrew 11 ай бұрын
Btw: Same for charge rate... you need to make sure your charger (part of the inverter, right) is not sending more than 2400 watt to the batteries from that big solar array! I would hate to see your next video be one about losing it all to a big fire!
@TheCruisinCrew
@TheCruisinCrew 11 ай бұрын
@@Tom-fu6sf From what I can tell, these are 1c 200amp max. But you can't multiply the discharge rate by 4 if you put them in series to create a 48v battery bank... then the discharge rate stays the same. He would need to put them in parallel in order to do that and with 12v batteries that would mean 16 of them 4x4... he really needs to invest in true 48 volt batteries and put 2 or 4 of them in parallel!

I'm enjoying your off grid base camp videos. And, I think you've done everything in the right order. One thing that is a relic from the past, when everything requiring a battery was 12v, is the use of amp hours, which makes sense only for 12v systems. Watt hours are a direct measure of energy stored and watt are a measure of the rate of energy collection or use. Amp hours is not a direct measure of anything. Since the solar business has many different voltage systems, it's time the industry talks in watt hours, not amp hours. Many solar businesses have already come to that conclusion. Regarding the haters that can't leave you alone, they're ragging on you for one reason only, they're getting a reaction out of you. They love to see you get your pants on fire and respond to them. That tells them they have the power to influence you. If I were you, I would completely ignore them and enjoy the success you're having.
@MikeLockheart

Still plenty to do, if things get worse, bad, you would be wise to have dry food storage, and better yet, a garden laid out, planned, a bunch of seeds stockpiled so you can grow your own food, I know that would be hard for you, veggies, but you could grow potatoes and make tater tots still. Also, tomatoes for pizza sauce, herbs to make it taste right, cheese would be hard. . and growing grains and milling your own flour not hard, but labor intensive. completley off grid. That would make for a really cool episode in the future, now that I think about it. . . :D

I know you mentioned the low temp charging on those batteries. I would see if your charge controller has the capability of adding a low temp charge disconnect/disable to it because those redodo batteries DO NOT have a low temp charge disconnect or even a low temp sensor attached to the BMS at all (only high temp). Just don't want you to end up killing your batteries.

Well I gotta say you're doing everything 100% right. Probably don't remember me been following you for a while and was trying to talk you into this lifestyle a couple of years ago. You're doing everything the way I did mine. And putting the septic in first was the smart thing. We don't understand what a nuisance that is to run back-and-forth and empty. The only thing I would do now if I were you is your next big item would be a little park model home. Then you would really be able to handle the winter's out there. If I'm not mistaken park models in Arizona have 6 inch walls. So plenty of installation and you would have a home instantly with everything you need in it.

Sewer was definitely the most important first, Apache county said only 90 days at a time unless you have sewer

I know that you have ideas in mind already for a catio but you reminded me of the old fashion 3 season sunrooms for rvs. They were built like a deck that you just drove your rv as close to as you could and parked. Then when you opened your side door you walked straight out onto this sunroom/enclosed deck with the rv making up the 4th wall of the room. Of course, when you drove away it looks like a weird floating platform with 3 walls an a roof.

Eric, you are doing off grid the best way possible and others know it too. Naysayers criticize when others achieve what they only dream. You are blessed. Keep up the great videos. They are appreciated by this viewer. Oh yeah Catio is an awesome idea! I'd be so afraid without a fenced barrier to keep predators away like coyotes & hawks. I know you are a careful Loving Cat Daddy, but things can happen in half of an eye blink. JMO.

Hey Eric … loving your videos 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. May I suggest you get a few metal trash cans with tight lids ?? Just in case things go south in s bit ?? Stock up on peanut butter, rice, dried beans of your choice ?? Fill another with kitty foods ? The metal garbage cans are to keep bugs n mice out 😆
