Great results on an empty freezer. It will be a lot more efficient on power when it is full.

I just purchased a smart thermostat that will turn the freezer on when it reaches 20 and off when it gets to zero. This should conserve a lot of power, and still keep things safely below freezing.
@NatureZone1012 жыл бұрын
Great info! In an emergency situation you can use the freezer to make ice blocks and then use those to chill all kinds of food in coolers.

I'm impressed with that freezer. For it to stay below 10 degrees in that hot garage is awesome. I bet more battery power was used on the inverter's parasitic draw than what the freezer actually used.
@GearGadgetReviews2 жыл бұрын
That’s what I’m thinking to.
@mr.makeit40372 жыл бұрын
Now remember: Once you fill that freezer up, the efficiency will increase alot, decreasing your power draw. and ofcourse colder months will help out the efficiency even more.

I have a similar setup. A 100 ah LifePo4 battery, 1000 watt inverter, 20 amp pwm charge controller, 2 ea 100 watt solar panels. My garage frig has a 50/50 run/off and draws 70-80 watts off the inverter. Inverter is pure sine wave and draws 13 watts continuously. I started out using one panel and it couldn’t keep up. Two panels will run my system indefinitely as long as I have good sun for 6 to 8 hours.

Not to mention, if the freezer had been full, it would have lasted a lot longer as well, since the food provides a ton of thermal mass to the system.
@GearGadgetReviews2 жыл бұрын
Yes, kinda why I did it this way. I wanted a worse case scenario, but I’m doing another test right now with the freezer “full” and a 200 watt panel helping out to see how long it will run. Be posted soon
@mannyfragoza96522 жыл бұрын
excellent project results. if you hooked up solar you could prob run in for weeks maybe longer

If you add a cheap solar setup to it you could run that all the time from it and not worry about power outages. Have fun stay safe.

Hello Brian🙋🏻♀️I was wondering how this freezer is holding up? Thank you for such a great review of this freezer🙏🏼🕊️
@GearGadgetReviews Жыл бұрын
Hi! It’s holding up great. It didn’t skip a beat keeping things completely frozen out in the garage in the crazy hot Texas summer we just had.
@yuriscorrales61012 жыл бұрын
Excellent review .I’m not sure but if you isolate the freezer with some playbook or others materials outside maybe could last longer the charge of the battery .thanks for the information .I think every person would need to have a system like this in case of an emergency .

battery would have lasted longer if the freezer was full, it takes more power to keep an empty freezer cold than it does to keep a full one cold
@GearGadgetReviews2 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly. That’s kinda why I ran the test this way so I could get a “worst case” scenario. So hopefully, if I do ever have to use this setup in a blackout situation the freezer will be more full and I’ll get longer run time👍🏻😃
@kellyoconnor97732 жыл бұрын
Your freezer will use less power once it’s full so you will be able to go longer between charges, I’m guessing at least another day.
@GearGadgetReviews2 жыл бұрын
Yup! But that’s why I decided to run the test this way…basically this is worst case scenario and the hardest for the battery. I’m building another unit and going to test with a filler freezer and a 200watt solar panel hooked up. 👍🏻
@daviddelgado59542 жыл бұрын
WOW! What else can I say! I am definitively buying one of those batteries as soon as I can, it will be soo interesting to see hpw that small system behaves when you add the solar panels and at the same time you have the freezer connected. I do have one question, does the Fridge you have in the garage have the same power consumption as that freezer? :) Great Work!!!
@GearGadgetReviews2 жыл бұрын
Thanks David. No, the fridge pulls MUCH more watts than this freezer.

It could have been a lot longer if the freezer was full ,,they tent to hold their temp much longer when full..

True. And for this “test” I wanted it empty to give kind of a “worst case” scenario. I put out a 2nd video with the freezer more full and a 200 watt solar panel as well. 👍🏻

I was expecting it to last 7 days on that battery. Maybe if it was full of frozen food and some water bottles.

Yes. Would have helped if it was full, but I wanted to show worst case scenario.

this fridge is pricy, but can work as refrige . others you need external thermostat it plugs into. but be carefull the cheap freezers are china brands they work in a narrow range of temps dont like cold some need 50 f also don't like hot so they are not garage ready. ge Hotpoint and several familiar names are ok too. read owners manual some are even marked garage ready. like to see how long extra if even 100 watt panel. also a full freezer will use less also where the freezer is located if you keep the garage door open and sun hits it will use more power i sugest any location sun might hit a freezer never good but buy a white one to reflect heat away
