Looks good. I have been living on solar for 13 years, on my old boat. No problemo, except for fridge (big) or airconditioning. Starting to come together nicely. Nice to have all the best equipment and supplies but we know that gentleman will do it with his own integrity. Doing excellent. 👍❤️😇

G’day Brian…we have a similar DIY Solar setup….albeit slightly bigger…one thing to be aware of is that a single cylinder gasoline generator may not output a smooth enough sine wave for your inverter to handle…(high Total Harmonic Distortion)…this is the case for us (6.2kW PowMr)…so we have a separate 58v plug in battery charger which we run directly from our generator to charge the batteries if needed…. Luckily this is very rare as we have enough solar panels to quickly recharge…even on cloudy / rainy days.
@BrianandTesinthePhilippines7 күн бұрын
yeah I have been looking at a small inverter type generator that is supposed to be compatible for the system and hopefully with the 6 x 550 watt panels I also will be able to charge up even on cloudy days as we are not going to be running a massive amount of items.
@AnthonyQ7307 күн бұрын
@ perfect 😊 an inverter generator produces pure sine wave and would be ideal….and they are way more efficient on fuel since they only operate at the required level of power because engine rpm does not determine the frequency output…although they are a bit mahal 😳

Hi Brian. This is my first visit to your channel. I am in N Luzon. I am looking at a grid tied 4kw solar system with 10kw battery backup to cover brown outs and reduce electric consumption through nighttime use, mainly a 1hp split inverter a/c and ref. Thank you for your information. I know what you mean about trades. No one seems to use a plumb line or spirt level. They will faint at the mention of a cross line laser level. But hey ho, still better living here than our home countries.

@@chrisreed3929 Hi Chris, thanks for watching and we hope you stay with us for the journey. 100% correct with "Trades" for want of a better word haha but yeah if you stay on top of em you can get a much better job. What's the cost of the 10kw battery you're looking at btw?
@chrisreed39296 күн бұрын
@@BrianandTesinthePhilippines Good morning Brian. I was planning to use exactly the same type of lithium battery that you have x4 and they appear to be coming up at 20k peso each. That will give about 10kwh with a 80% depth of discharge. I leave the technical stuff to my wife's uncle as he is a solar installer and actually very good mainly doing large commercial projects all over Luzon. Having a big Filipino family does have some advantages as we have relatives that include architect, civil engineer, police and judiciary but unfortunately no hands on tradesman.
@BrianandTesinthePhilippines6 күн бұрын
@@chrisreed3929 you will only need 3 batteries Chris and those Gentai batteries actually charge up to 295ah above the rated 280ah so 2 will give me 7.5kwh of storage almost 7.6 actually so save 20k and 3 should be ample brother. Yes Filipino large families do have their advantages and it was actually Tes's second cousin, the vice mayor who married us 😁 Also watch the price on those batteries coz I've seen em on sale at 17k sometimes 🦘✌️if you are going 24v not 12v system then bang for buck is the 25.6v 150ah which will allow you to have 3 not 4 and give you around 12kwh

@@BrianandTesinthePhilippinesyes, good plan since you are actually building a fairly large system. 24V means you can use half the wire size.

@@BrianandTesinthePhilippines looks like you would require 4 batteries for 48volt but it can support a large sting and is expandable with multiple inverters as reuired Have to look at open circuit voltages arnt and short circuit currents arnt exceeded and what optimal MMPT ranges are but this unit switches seemlessly when changing modes and doesnt retart when plugged into an external source plus also remember to protect cabling when doing wiring with protection devices and safety switches
@BrianandTesinthePhilippines6 күн бұрын
@tonycampbell1536 nah gonna stay with a 24v system Tony as once you go to 48v the costs increase a lot more. The pic of the inverter was the wrong one lol, there is a 24v inverter/charger identical to this one. 🦘✌️
@GerbenWulff7 күн бұрын
Hi, I am also planning to buy solar and have been looking around a lot. Some comments and questions. First you mention going for a hybrid inverter because it comes with a generator charger. You could also use a AC to 12V DC charger, connect it to your generator and battery and charge your battery that way. That allows you to use an off grid inverter. Next you did not mention adding any breakers. The hybrid inverter might have some breakers built in, but I wonder if you are going to add any breakers? Final question. Since you are going to get two batteries, do you intend to use them in series (25.6 V) or parallel (12.8 V)?
@BrianandTesinthePhilippines7 күн бұрын
yes we actually already have the breakers in the box next to the battery and yes we are planning on running them in series to create a 24v system. Well the hybrid inverter doesn't come with a generator but you can connect the generator as if it was connected to the grid. So then if the batteries are low on autonomous days, I can fire up the generator and the hybrid inverter will automatically switch as if it's on grid, then when I shut off the generator it will again auto switch back to the solar system in the blink of an eye. Thanks for watching also.
