Hey Don. Excellent modifications. I tried to get several trailer manufacturers in south GA to spec build me a rolling frame but none were interested so when I came back from Afghanistan last Jan I started building mine from scratch. I opted for a 5x10 to roughly coincide with my Grand Cherokee size. I went with Torsion stub axles (independent suspension) that I bolted onto the frame for ease of field repair/ replacement and maximum ground clearance. I also opted for a "Max Coupler" multi- axis hitch for fluid articulation on the rough stuff. Hope to have it completed soon and get it field tested. I'll post video when I hit the trail.

DUDE, Awesome build out. Very inspiring and I really love that you thought ahead so much when ordering your trailer. I have never seen one with the door on the angled nose and the entry door behind the axle. Also the extra width with the wheels tucked in. So sweet. Love the front garage and pull out kitchen. I have built 4 camper trailers from cargo trailers and soon to build a 5th only because a trucker took out my 1 ton Dodge duly tow vehicle. So now I have a Dodge Durango a 2001, and have to downsize. I love your corner jacks. That's a great idea. The new trailer I'm getting only has the cheep scissor jacks and I didn't know what to do. You have the right idea and can keep them inside too. Love it love it. Thanks again.

This video was the one that inspired me to build one for my self. To answer a few questions... The table legs have gone up a bunch in price since I purchased them, but it looks like you can get them HERE . I ordered the trailer from a place call Trailershowroom.com, but I'm not sure I would recommend them. I had to spend about 40 hrs worth of work fixing their mistakes. The walls came unglued, the welds around the windows were missing, and a couple pieces of floor had to be replaced because the gaps were too big to seal up. Use them at your own risk. The sink/stove were just bought off of ebay, and are SMEV/Dometic brand. There are some on there right now, but it's not worth linking, just search for "RV stove"/"RV sink". Hope that helps.

Why did you want to tuck the wheels up under the trailer instead of off to the side like they normally come? Doesn't that make your trailer kind of tippy and top heavy ? Also, I was curious how many inches extra you had it lifted. Ingenious ideas on your build!
@elmo4vt14 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment - The primary reason for recessing the wheels/tires is so that the track width of the trailer would match my truck. When going off road, this is VERY important and will make a big difference in what you can pull the trailer over. This does make it slightly less stable of course, but the difference is pretty small considering where the weight is in an trailer/camper build like this. The center of gravity of the trailer is really low as there's nothing that isn't mounted to the floor (other than the walls themselves). I've had the trailer on almost 45deg slopes with no issues, but it is scary. The only lift I had on it was a spring over axle lift, so that would typically be around 3" of lift.

Awesome work, how does it do off road?
@elmo4vt16 жыл бұрын
It did pretty well off road with the ground clearance and soft suspension it had. The only issue I ran into some times is that it was still a big box, and it took a lot of care to keep it out of trees since it doesn't narrow towards the top like the tow vehicle does. Also, it was pretty heavy at around 3k lbs. That much weight limits you off road. On one trip, there were a few sections of steep road where I would be spinning all four tires in 4-low and an all-wheel drive suby went straight up with some momentum. Just shows you how much extra drag there is in any trailer your pulling when off-road.
