Changing up the format a bit to serve y'all better! BUT also, Black and White or Colour??

Black and white feels better especially with stories.

Love the new format! Genuine words, thoughts and feelings that flow with sweet human quality....far better than a polished production. It feels more real...as if you are right here. In the long term I find that B&W images have more staying power. Color has a buzz. B&W strikes me with more subtle depth. Just my 2 cents! Great as always!☺

Rod! Great to hear from you. It does feel better to share ideas than to hold ideas. I like going thru the process.... I'll always carry the feeling of indecisiveness when it comes to choosing bw or colour. My hope is that my storytelling keeps improving, and the work will land where it does. 🙏🏽👍🏽 Cheer, Rod!

I think this is a good idea. Enjoyed the informal format. Another idea, sending out a short newsletter regarding a specific topic, idea, or experiment. The Art of Photography you tube channel, began sending newsletters covering just topics of interest to the author. Almost forgot, B/W.
@tahaphoto6 ай бұрын
Hey Robert, great idea with the newsletter. Ted Forbes does a lovely job, you're right. Been sub'd for years to AoP. You think you'll always lean to BW? I love both at different times. -_- Thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed that format, nicely done, and it’s a great initiative to seek out ways to be more productive without the timelines normally associated with productivity. I was shooting a lot of bw until recently, and whilst I prefer bw I’m currently fascinated by rich contrasting colours.
@tahaphoto6 ай бұрын
Roger! Rich contrasting colours will always pull you in. lol I'm there with you. I just wanna share more. Some vids will be polished but that just can't be the norm. I hope to keep this relaxed format going. It actually felt weird uploading the same day that I recorded. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Great video. I like the new format as it's candid and keeps me wanting to grab my Ricoh more often. I personally love shooting in BW as the emotions stand out more. As you said, it can be hard when you're in a colorful place. But this video inspired me to go out and shoot BW this weekend. Thanks!~

Format with less editing is great Taha! Keep them coming! I prefer B&W most the time, but also because of FOMO I shoot RAW and JPEG on my GR3x (Thanks for your JPEG recipe!) As a sound-engineer, and listening to your video on headphones I would suggest to put either your mic on mono, or just use a one channel mic. On this video your voice shifting left to right a bit much ;-)

Shooting BW with a back up makes sense....Thanks for the feedback on the audio. My buddy who's also a sound engineer shared the same simple, obvious advice🫡😁 thank you. I actually implemented mono audio on my latest video..(tmax vs jch ) let me knownyour thoughts 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Oh man. We need a better workflow. I'm glad you're finding your way through this, because as a comparison, let me explain my process right now (not that I'm some amazing KZbinr). 1.) I go on the photowalk and shoot what I hope are interesting. 2.) I come home and download the video from my Go3S or whatever it's called. 3.) I drag the raw and jpgs over to the laptop 4.) I open iMovie and drag the video in as a "bed" 5.) I go to epidemicsound and grab some music 6.) trim trim trim 7.) slip in the photos on top of the video. 8.) Put the music bed down. 9.) Make a cover on pixlr 10.) Upload Off script is a *great* plan. We don't need the polish. We need you. Just be you.

Chris! It gives me some relief knowing that I'm not the only one out here tryna make sense of my output shortcomings on youtube. Your flow seems familiar to many of us. You said it best, "we don't need the polish, we need you". I hope my video inspires you to try the same. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Chris!

I’m more into color, to be honest. B&W is great if your focus is on light and shadow, tones etc., but I’ve never really agreed with the idea that color distracts. That’s just me - to each their own… BTW I like the candid video format 🤙🏼
@tahaphoto6 ай бұрын
Hai! I appreciate your honesty. I realize over time that I simply can't commit to one or the other. Whenever I do, I yearn for the format I'm not in. Such is life! I feel colour will always have a special place for me especially when I think back to my childhood. Vintage 80's colours always get me. Vintage Toronto shaped me. BUT I love the stories I tell when I do focus in of BW. All part of the journey I guess? What type of photography are you currently into?

@@tahaphoto I get what you mean - and I have to admit, a b&w done right is hard to beat. I like all the genres - if it’s got soul to it, I like it! But lately I’ve been getting pulled toward more documentary style photography.

You could print, show the print instead of embedding it into the video. And those prints could be for sale. Street photogaphy to me was initially in BW. Because all of the masters were taking it as bw for obvious reasons. I just followed their time with film Leica M4-2 (Canada made) and bw single grade fiber based papers from seventies (thanks to Burlington camera and to one of my supporter). BW makes it more obvious on dividing living creatures and else. I did it for decade. Life changed, I quit film, street photography and just goofing around with different digital cameras. Digital is best at color. BW... not as good (visually) as on bw film, darkroom prints. Doing BW from RAW is the same as developing C-41 film in Rodinal. Close, but no cigar. But some regular digital cameras are more better with bw. Original Ricoh GRD has some reputation for it. Leica M8 as well. Some iPhones as well, if I'm not mistaken. After so many years with bw film, I think monochrome digital cameras makes sense. Film is bw and so should be the sensor. If you know it is bw, you shoot as bw.

Kostya! I hope you write a book with all your stories and insight into street photography. I truly appreciate your perspective. I agree with you on the SENSOR having to be MONOCHROME, if RIcoh ever does this, I'm completely onboard. I want to shoot more film, I really do. I hope the more chill format will help me out at achieving this. I have a few rolls that I will use next week. Any reccos for film stocks you swear by for BW? I like Tri-X, JCH and Kentmere 400 so far. Keep sharing! We all appreciate it, my friend!
@kostyafedot5516 ай бұрын
@@tahaphoto Thank you, Taha! BW film is variable depending on the mood. ISO100 will give most crisp and classy look. But it requires things to be static. For walking I used mostly ISO400 films at the box speed during "summer" light. For "winter" light, well, absence, I pushed same ISO400 films at 1600 and 3200 ISO. This was adding muddiness. But must moody-muddy film I used was TMAX3200. It is the bw film on its own. And doesn't only ment for the darkness. If you have 3200 rated film, use regular color filters to bring shutter speed down. x2 green filter before the lens will bring ISO to 800. I used mostly Kentmere 400 for the box speed. And HP5+ for pushing.
