Thanks for watching! It's hard to grow a sailing channel these days but have been growing consistently :) We are now adding air con and a new victron inverter 🤪, just when we thought we escaped boat projects for a bit. We plan to spend the hurricane season in the Rio Dulce, air con will make life so much better, especially now that we spend so much time on the computers editing.

Our favorite cruising destinations are def more off the beaten path. Something so peaceful about being in the middle of nowhere with a well equipped boat. We found our groove in Maine as we got further east we got. Makes sense bc Nova Scotia is on of our favorites :)

I'm not a huge Lobster fan but living in east central Florida for the last thirty something years makes me long for the huge blue claw crabs we used to catch in the Chesapeake Bay. Yeah I know we have blue claw crabs here but the water quality in the Indian river lagoon makes them tasty like crap. Happy times until June you two !!
@jerrymiller2763 жыл бұрын
I grew up in Norfolk. We'd go crabbing fairly often using several different methods at different times. My favorite was putting a bushel basket in an innertube and anchoring in 12 to 18 ft of water then chasing them down along the bottom with mask, fins, snorkel, and a hand net. But I used to joke that crab was one food that you cold starve to death while eating them as fast as you possibly could. I really hated cracking blue crabs.
@joecucch82613 жыл бұрын
@@jerrymiller276 When I was a kid in New Jersey we used to go to Toms River and wade out in two feet of water with nets and a bushel basket in a inner tube and a flash light and catch them among the weeds. Yum !! Then in day time we would put a wire mesh in the inner tube and dig up piss clams with a shovel and use the wire mesh to wash out the sand. they were so sweet !!!

Ah, you're still exploring "my backyard" in this video! "Enchanted forest?" Consider you are in the "land of Stephen King." Ayuh! Good idea to pay close attention to the charts (and get "local knowledge") because in addition to all the islands off the coast of Maine, there are many rock ledges just below the surface where you can't see them and don't know they are there. We call them "sunkers." Why? Because by the time you realize it's there, it has already "sunk her!"😂

Def some creepy spot down east! Especially when the fog rolls in 🙃.. The rocks are no joke! Had to be very careful navigating around. I could't imagine being an ancient mariner in those waters!
@billpittore3 жыл бұрын
@@CalicoSkiesSailing Speaking of ancient mariners, a good read is the book "Down East, An Illustrated History of Maritime Maine" by Lincoln Paine (2nd edition). The history of course goes back thousands of years but little is recorded until the Europeans started showing up around 1500. In a few years it will be 500 years since Verrazzano sailed through Maine waters.

Looking at Calico and Delos and many other sailing channels I follow, I also follow a sailing channel called (Finding Simon).., he has this illusion that he is building a catamaran to sail around the world where in fact all he is building is a house boat, the reason why I find it funny lately is that he just doubled his solar panels from 8 to 16.., 16 solar panels.., I was looking at some movie stars $40 million mansion today which had 12 solar panels on the roof.., 4 less than simon's catamaran.., I lost interest when he talked about building a sauna on the boat.
@CalicoSkiesSailing3 жыл бұрын
Ha sailboat or floating power plants?! I think we are tapped out on solar panels but we are nicely keeping up with our power usage. We can even run our high draw A/C watermaker off the battery bank. After our experience getting locked down in the Ragged Islands we wanted to get away from needing gasoline for charging. We barely use our generator these days!
