Off the road for 10 YEARS and we try to drive it home!

@quintonbartolotta found a classic @Jeep CJ5 that he just had to have, and decided to try and drive it home. The only problem is that its just been a ranch Jeep for the last decade and hasn't been on the road. So we loaded up Alan from @YankumRopes and headed up in to a remote part of Oregon on a 100 degree day to see what kind of an adventure we could get into on a @ViceGripGarage style road trip. Needless to say, shenanigans ensued!

Last time I did this I had no tail lights or brake lights. Becuse I had a buddy following me both times I got pulled over they said I’m being stupid with a smart plan wished me luck and let me go. I love stuff like this.

Loved it. Casey, with all your commercial truck driving, you realise that people will follow you for miles and miles of straight passing allowed highway, only to finally pass on double solid lines on corners. At least that's what I learned over forty some years of truck driving.

Well, THAT was different! LOL!! First surprise was the way it started on the first crank! I couldn't believe it. Next up was Alan NOT sitting on his Cheetos when he got back in your truck. The biggest surprise was he didn't get a ticket!!! Great trip!! Lets do some more of these. Just start it up and head out. No pre-trip, no checking tires or lights... just start and drive!! LOL!!

Casey, that was cool. You do realize that Quentin bought you because he didn't think it would make it. After all, you do have the capability to tow that jeep. But I'm glad he made it and had no real problems. Yeah a few minor inconveniences but no real problems.

I rode a hardtail chopper from the Poconos to Elkton Md.....the only suspension was the pressure of the rear tire...bad tires, even badder gas, and a small issue with a Pennsylvania trooper who didn't know that open carry is legal(back then)...I don't know the law now, but I guarantee you that I'll not go back to Pa. as long as I'm on this side of the dirt...that dude actually drew his pistol on me...he was a mess, so I asked him if he'd ever held anyone at gunpoint before...he didn't even call for backup he was so shook...I knew that I would have to either de-escalate or disarm him...I chose talk first...then? I said if he'd stop pointing his pistol at me, we could start over...so he did and I then educated him on Pa. law and the second amendment...who'da thunk that a greasy biker could recite the laws he needed to look up...no computers in patrol vehicles back then, so he'd have to wait until he got back to the barracks...I gave him contact information and told him that if the information wasn't on the money, I'd come back and take my chances with a judge...I never went back and the officer is a friend 'til this day...😂...know your rights front and back and chances are that you'll be ok...even when you are doing some sketchy shit...lol...I don't know how that would fly these days, but a little charm goes a long way...try not to cuss at the officer, but don't take any shit...I'm just tryin' to educate and maybe entertain the troops a little...y'all do know that you're the troops, right? peace....

Best way to pick up an old rig! My favorite was driving an old 8n tractor home. Only 25 miles but they don't go very fast. It didn't have brakes either. 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

North central Oregon is my favorite. Don't get to spend enough time there. First part of the drive I thought it looked like the road coming out of Twickenham and the John Day river. Then recognizing the intersection at Mitchell... yeah, beautiful area. And HOT!

Using water on the exterior of the radiator, to cool it down, is a good idea. Howsomever, your water would have been better utilized, getting it on to the fins of the radiator, with the fan spinning. Spraying cold water into the fins, with the fan running, is the fastest way to get the system cooled down.

Reminds me of my teenage years in the late 50s early 60s..doing crazy car things. Made a convertible out of a early 50s business coupe one summer. OLD SCHOOL....camp axe and an old hack saw. But we did it. Cruised Orange County all summer until the flathead 6 banger died. Then junked the Dodge and bought a $35.00 54 Pontiac!

I bought a truck and drive it home 4 days from PA to AZ on a three day trip permit issued by Arizona. I had the signed title from the previous owner, my own insurance and the paperwork from the Ebay sale. I was expecting crap from officers, but had no problems. Not even stopped once.

I loved your adventure safari! I could see you weren't planning to fuss with small repairs, but that gas cap! All of those old caps had a gasket which the cap was counting on to make the seal. I've even used cardboard for a temporary fix. Alan wouldn't be saying "That's the gas cap rolling down the bank!" Please do more of these videos! I laughed all the way :)

Enjoyed this video having been in the jeeps situation several time I fully realize that this is actually fun. In one case I had just bought a Triumph Spitfire and decided to drive it 100 miles home, no registration , no insurance, no paperwork except a bill of sale. On the way home I hit heavy rain and the wiper arm fell off but at about 60 mph the rain would blow over me . Then came a state trooper and of course his lights came on, I pulled over and he passed me and stopped the car ahead of me, made it the rest of the way home on adrenaline 👍😁🙏🎩

Glad he made it all the way. Those little engines aren't bad but some of them had fiber timing gears that were known to break. I know because our shop replaced them for a customer after they died. I think the replacements were either all metal or metal with nylon gears. Can't remember, too many years ago.

Not sure about your county, but as a southwest washington resident, I can tell you from experience that any time you challenge a ticket in Portland area or down by Salem, you will get 50 percent off your fine. I spent an afternoon in Portlands traffic court for nearly half a day and heard the judge routinely take 50 percent off nearly everyone's ticket. One guy was arguing with the judge to the point I thought judge was about to yell Contempt of Court! but instead, the judge said 50% off!

OMG, I forgot what it's like to be young, 🤣 Reminds me of a trip i had here in NSW Australia. 4 of us in a friends panel Van, traveling about 600km. Got pulled over, unregistered, and my mate was unlicensed. Cops took him away to be charged at next town, told us to wait. When they returned he had fines of about $900, and a court date. Cops said he was not to drive at all.. They asked me if i could drive? I answered yes. About 200kms down the road one of my mates said, i didn't know you had a license? I said I don't, they all were astounded, but what if we get pulled over? I said its ok I'm following a Police Instruction. That was the longest loudest laugh we'd had in very long time.😂🤣🤣 Great and funny clip Casey, cheers to all.

That Jeep reminds me of the one girl friend I had in high school of the jeep she had. Her dad and uncle built it for her it was old army jeep and the owned Archer Brothers Jeeps in Hayward Calif. That specialized in older jeeps.
