Amazing how stupid people can be huh? Its a reflection thing, their life sucks so much they can't stand seeing someone else rising. Maybe if they put the same amount of energy in their life they wouldn't have to worry about someone else but we all know that's not going to happen. 4 minutes in I saw the train signal was lit up. Most of those signals are approach lit signals which means they stay dark until a train is coming. Something to keep an eye out for if you are ever working around railroad tracks again.

@@mikerubynfs Correct. Must be a fellow railfan, LOL. It's hard to tell for sure but at 8:30, the signals appear to have gone dark meaning no approaching train from the previous direction. That doesn't necessarily speak for the other direction but it's at least you know there isn't another one coming from the same direction right away.

Your video reminded me of when I helped a guy off the railroad tracks many years ago. He had gotten his pickup stuck crossways on the tracks that he was trying to cross. Saw him from the road and went to help. He was so stuck, that I didn't think I would ever get him free. It's amazing what you can do when you see a freight train barreling down on you and hear that horn honking. After a lot of frantic tugging and pushing we popped him off in the nick of time.

It's funny how many people get bothered by how every movie has things happen in-the-nick-of-time (me included). Such as when someone is saved from a horrible end just-in-the-nick-of-time, rather than way before the end was to happen. Yet, it's surprising how many times IRL nick-of-time events really do happen. This is just 1 of many recorded. I don't think there's a person alive who hasn't had at least 1 event happen like that.

I have really gotten into the offroad thing in the last couple of years, but I've been a train person all my life. My first thoughts watching this was "STAY OFF THE TRACKS!!!" Even when you think your fine and you'll hear the train coming stay off and remember trains are wider that the tracks. Ribbon rail has made trains way quieter than most people think. I once arrived at work and could hear the crossing bell 800 ft away, I look that direction, but no train. Mind you I'm standing about 100 feet away from the tracks themselves, I turn too look away from the crossing and there it is. A train approaching the crossing going 40mph and just as quite as could be. They were coasting, so the loco was just idling as it went by. I have always been hyper aware for trains because of my love of them and yet this thing snuck up on me. Also if you're ever stuck on a crossing, look for the blue sign on it. There is an 800 number to call and a ID number to tell the person at the other end what crossing you're on. This way they can let trains crews know and hopefully avoid a collision. Trains are estimated to kill 1 person every 100 minutes. Each year nearly 1,000 people are killed in train related accidents. The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that 5,800 train-car collisions occur in the country every year. Most of these accidents take place at railroad crossings, leading to 600 deaths and 2,300 injuries. Never race a train, you will always lose! Be safe out there.

@sdrailfan892
@sdrailfan892 11 ай бұрын
@@jamesfkndean interesting idea, not sure it would work. But the signal you would want to drop is the previous signal. The train would be unable to stop for the near signal if they were going at track speed. Often when there is a green signal for the block, the previous signal is green also. So the train is coming full track speed and would not be able to stop.
@jamesfkndean

Phew! Getting stuck so close to an active track like that is no bueno! Got crossed up trying to cross a random section of track once as a youngster. Had my dirt-bike in the back of my Dad's 74 Dodge D200 pickup and wanted to get to the other side of the track to ride, but the rails were higher than I expected and the truck got hung up. I knew it was an active track and that I done messed up badly and needed to get off them ASAP! Rocked back and forth a bit and eventually was able to get enough traction to power over it. Thank goodness it was the "pre traction control" days, because I needed all the power to the wheels! Ended up denting the gas tank, but I got off the tracks with a "lesson learned" experience. Dad wasn't happy I messed his gas tank up, but did appreciate his truck (and kid) didn't go up in a ball of flames.

Casey, just a point of reference. You made a comment about you shouldn’t use your air compressor for just one tire for too long (something like that) because it creates too much pressure. That statement is incorrect. Your pump, and others, creates flow, cubic feet per second (cfm). Restriction creates pressure. So your comment should have been that your compressor creates too much flow. I’m not trying to sound like a hater or call you a liar, just the opposite. I’ve heard you say several times before that you like to tell us correct information and it is greatly appreciated as some KZbinrs just say what they think sounds cool. Thanks again for a great video. Always enjoy them.

Having worked at the Railroad for 22 years this guy's truck was well clear of the tracks had no real risk in its position of getting hit by Train! Only in case of derailment or unsecured load I'd put that at about less than 1% chance of derailment and even less for unsecured load.

25 yr retired Locomotive Engineer right here..agree with everything you just said. Having had my fair share of collisions thruout my career,I’m more concerned with the train crew worrying about people and vehicles along the tracks and what they are doing and the horror of what that entails. I hope the crew called this in to dispatch!! I love this channel but absolutely cannot agree to making this kind of set up video at the cost of the train crew.

This is much more serious than most people realize. My biggest concern was the people and the dog. Trains are loud, but they can sneak up on you quickly, especially when there is a blind corner and no horn blowing. There are several accidents and fatalities every year caused by people on or near the tracks that never saw it coming. It’s seems hard to imagine but it happens.

Casey saving more than vehicles. 10 years ago I had been out of work for 5 years and had just secured my current job. On my first day I had driven a few feet down the road and my driver's door came open as the lock had frozen open. Thinking I was going to lose my job before I started it over some thing so stupid I lost my temper and started slamming the door and swearing at my car. Needless to say that didn't work. But it did attacked the attention of a plumber who lived near by. Instead of shouting at me of telling me to shut up, he calmly asked me what the problem was and carefully used his blow torch on my door to free the lock. That night I went back to his house with some thank you gifts. 10 years later I still work at the same job. Not sure I could be that calm if someone was shouting and banging outside my house first thing in the morning. I owe that guy a lot. Good for him. Glad he got the job.
