I would have loved for the Dallas park to have been realized. I was born in Dallas and have lived there my whole life taking an annual trip to WDW every year for the past 34 years. This year's trip has been totally ruined by COVID19. When Disney began by cancelling the free Disney Dining Plan we got for scheduling a bounce back trip while still checked in to the resort last year. Then they cancelled all of our dining reservations. Then removed the park hopper option and refunded 35% of what we had paid. Then the announcement that staying in a resort would not guarantee entrance to a park. You could enter one park and if for any reason you needed to leave you couldn't return that day. Feeling that there wasn't 65% of the trip remaining we decided that my 35th annual trip to Disney and the first as a retired 53 year old that will never grow up it will also be my first Disney cruise. As it would happen the only Disney cruise available in September was the exact 7 day's that the cancelled trip had occupied. Taking that as a sign I gladly swapped my very disappointing 35th week trip for a Disney Vacation that promises to live up to 100% of the cost of the vacation to WDW. I prefer the ll spelling of cancelled, cancelling as it follows the double the consonant and adding the suffix. It is acceptable either way only because so many people misspelled it that it became acceptable. It's just irritating to see the spelled both ways on the same sign like at airports.

As for Burbank studios and competition: Disney has a long history of being petty to counter other parks. Little understood is that the original California Adventure idea was an attack on Knott's Berry Farm. Disney was rumored to try several times to buy Knott's, but the Knotts family hated the idea. As the original family was dying off, they sold instead to Cedar Fair.

I knew enough about parks to know it wasn’t ever actually happening, but whenever a kid (we’re talking elementary all the way to high school) would hear about it they’d excitedly come tell me, knowing I like disney. Just repeated heartbreak. I would kill for a Disneyland-style park that operated more for locals and day-trippers. EDIT: also, Texposition is a TERRIBLE name

I never knew about Texposition. I mean Six Flags was already there, and that originally was supposed to be a sort of Texas Disneyland. But the 80s was a difficult time for the economy. And in the late 80s, DFW wasn’t immuned. Of course, by the 90s, the area saw massive growth. Several of the countries fastest growing towns were in DFW. Seeing how incredibly busy WDW has become during the offpeak, it made sense to either open up a 5th park, or open up a Disneyland in TX. There is still quite a lot of land, even if it’s a bit farther out. Kissimmee is pretty far out from Orlando. It has a large enough local base to thrive. The highway system meant that others from big TX cities like Houston, Austin, and San Antonio could drive up for the weekend. And people in the central US could make the drive out to, making a trip to Disney more accessible. It might redirect guest flow from Disney’s busier parks too. I was so sure last D23 they were going to make this announcement. Either a new centralized US park location, or an additional park to either FL or CA. But instead we got a Target partnership and a Disney+ series. And with current events, it’s looking like Disney is not going to invest in any more expansions in the foreseeable future. Just finish what they have. Also, TX does not have amazing year round weather. May not have hurricanes or earthquakes, but we still are in the bottom of tornado alley. Such a park may never see such a storm, but it could see storms that are just as powerful. And hail is a bigger risk than any. Every single car in the parking lot totaled, and if you can’t get every guest under some sort of protective covering in time, they could be injured as well. Plus, we have triple digit summers, with heat indexes up to 120! Late spring early fall can be bad too. And our winters!... the humidity just makes the hot hotter and the cold colder. 50 degrees here is bitter! And it can get in the 20s. We get a snow storm every 4 years that shuts down the entire metroplex. No ones going to Disney if the highway is closed.
@jwhitaker11194 жыл бұрын
Well if Six Flags can handle all of those possible issues, Disney sure could. I wouldn’t build it near DFW, though. I’d build it on the outskirts of SATX. Easier to reach by more people.... but they should do an entire park... not a watered down version.
@UmmYeahOk4 жыл бұрын
James Whitaker Six Flags handles it by being closed most of the year. They’re really only open Oct-Dec and Jun-Aug. Much of that is weekend only, and much is closed if it’s not close to capacity. They have to deal with losses weaker parks they acquired and they themselves have gone through so many different ownerships. I say that it was intend to be Texas’s Disneyland, but that was the 60s. You can’t really compare the two now. Whoever heard of a weekend only Disneyland?
@rattyeely4 жыл бұрын
I mean, Florida has terrible weather too but they still did it despite having to storm-proof the towers
@UmmYeahOk4 жыл бұрын
rattyeely true, but being so inland, it’s biggest threat, hurricanes, really didn’t effect the parks until the last two decades. Plus, with modern technology, you can predict a storms path, and prepare, determine if closing is necessary. Whereas our storms cannot be predicted as fast. 9/11 has shown us that Disney can successfully evacuate a park in 30 minutes, but for hail? A tornado? Guests need an appropriate place to seek shelter. And they won’t know unless there is reports of it already happening a few miles away. Of course, by the time it hits the resort, it may just be rain or strong winds. But then again, we’ve had storms with such strong winds that the pressure would blow out windows (no tornado) and even twist individual trees one by one clockwise or counter clockwise (meaning no tornado, but those trees are now dying)

YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THAT THE BURBANK MALL COULD HAVE BEEN A DISNEY PARK?!?!?! Holy Crap! I went to that mall all the time when I was a kid. I've been going around that area the past couple of weeks helping my aunt find a new apartment. I had no idea that it was a proposed land for a new MGM studios. I only ever knew of Mickey Mouse park next to the studios. I am absolutely shocked. My grandma's house used to be right off of Magnolia. About 3 or 4 miles from the mall. Now, of course, I didn't get really into theme parks until after she and my grandpa moved out of there, but still, I wonder how different things would have been if it had been built. Would I even be looking for apartments there right now? Or would it be too expensive? Would I spend more time there than Disneyland? I mean, whenever I do go to Disneyland, I pass the mall on my drive. Would I even be going to Disneyland as often if I could save an hour by just going to the Disney park in Burbank?

Great video as always!! To this day, I STILL cannot get over the idea of the floating Disney theme-park-on-super-tanker idea. I love it and hate it and have so many bizarre emotions about it whenever I hear (or watch 😜) something about SS Disney! It is such an absolutely insane idea for so many reasons, and not the normal awesome crazy-good Imagineering ideas. I’m sure it would have been awesome, but I have a zillion questions.... like, politically... would pirates ever try to capture the ship? Another country not friendly to the west? How would security for a Disney super-tanker look? 😳 And what happened when they needed to update or replace rides or do refurbishments or if a ride broke and couldn’t be repaired until it was back at port? Lol I have no idea why, out of alllll the Disney projects that didn’t get off the ground, the SS Disney makes me have like a zillion thoughts and questions lol! Side note, I lived in Burbank on San Jose Ave right above the crossroad at Magnolia for over a decade. So the almost-Disney/MGM Burbank Park would have literally been at my front door (obviously there is a big gap in there as I didn’t move to San Jose Ave until 2006)... Anyway, It’s so interesting to me how much Burbank and the entire downtown and Town Center where I used to go jogging were clearly influenced by the Disney idea. I realize Disney was trying to work with what downtown Burbank had already, but after the refurb and upgrade of this area in the 90’s and 00’s, its easy to see what this Disney project would have looked like up close and in person... because the “base” of what would have been this hybrid shopping/park area is still a public shopping and entertainment center. Anyway, I’ll stop rambling lol 😂 love your channel and I have been a huge fan for years. Keep up the awesome work!!!

I live near there and we always have rumors about Disney owning/trying to buy land to build a park, but because branson has a small airport that couldnt handle all the disney traffic they keep getting nixed.

The mini parks are very reminiscent of the idea of Disney Quest. There’s a lot of overlap here 😂

I have this in my watch later playlist and was watching vids I needed to watch and I ended up falling asleep. I then woke up in a sweat once I heard Michael Eisner’s name.
