OMG, I need that DOHC head. Never thought I'd see one in use for real. Fantastic. FYI, I used to own Datsun Z # 427 which was produced in December 1969. Shipped to the states in Jan 1970. That one and # 17122 from 1971. Such great cars.

This is too all who have any questions about this car. This is Tomitaku's 240z, this is not a 240zg or a 432 fairlady z. This car still has the original L24 in it but has been heavily modified obviously. This motor originally came with a SOHC head but OS Giken of Japan produced 9 DOHC heads back in the 70s for the L24 for race application, hence the 24 in TC24-B1.. The engine also has triple Mikuni Solex carburetors which each has 2 44mm intakes. This 240z makes roughly 350hp.

I don't think the Office Tomikaku looks for swapping or cheaper use. Rather perfectly matched, original cars that take your breath away with a simple stare, and make you re-live the best years of your life... Tuning a car is a work of skill. Restoring a jewel is a work of art. And it's obvious that you'll get more with an RB26 or a 2JZ, since they're turbocharged mills ! ;-)

RB26 or SR20 on 280z is insane, you feel the power up instantly even with stock engines, and the no-traction feeling even when driving a straight line at 40 mph is actually kick ass :)

Its a OS Giken optional twin cam head for the L series engines. Worth approx $10K if still available. Z432 had a S20 engine and badges to identify it. Thats one sweet Z!

What I meant was that putting a Skyline or Supra's engine doesn't seem to be their goal. From what I saw on their website, they keep a line of work, respecting a model's field. Good thing in my opinion. And this Z seems to be a "remix" version of the almighty 432(-R), that borrowed the PRINCE R380's S20 mill. To finish, I think OS Giken's purpose is : FUN. And for that, no (necessarily) need for performance. Just look at the drivers' faces and way of speaking once they get off the car !!! ;-)

@PirateKing666 screw the S20, go OS giken. Picture a kameari 3.1L L28DTT with triple mikuni's. If your looking at build ability L28 any day. Until the late 80's the L28 was the most build able engine in japan since the early 70s. if your looking at nostalgia S20 is cool, but IMO i feel its more of a hakosuka motor and the sound of a stroker L28 is such god.

Yeah, a friend of mine owns a BMW 325i 1997 mod with M3 suspension that he bought from a cousin, unfortunately he doesnt want to upgrade the engine, that thing would take out almost any car, but as it is now, he was even passed by a Golf ;)

It's actually just not the head. It's the whole drivetrain. You need it to run extra cam and gears. So it's also a block. That you need for the head.

Its sept 2018 why has nobody else produced a twin cam head for the l28. It sure would help save on engine swaps.....we have rapid prototyping now and 3D printing. You could easily adapt a four cylinder design . It could be a very affordable head.Why doesnt Giken produce them why only 9 .I heard they built another run , but surely it can be mass produced on a limited run to have more enthusiasts glorifing this great concept. I dont like engine swaps but a HEAD swap is a beautiful thing.

There have been a few people that cut up a couple of ka24de heads and welded them together to make a twincam I6 head for the l28.

@idriveforeign No, L24 with OS giken head, only 9 exist. Z432 had a S20 which is a 2.0L inline 6 dohc. Mikuni solexs too not webers, Japanese version.

i got the idea from my last project. highway spec built s13-sr20. that shit was taking out lambos, Ferraris, and even bikes, but then it got jack and now i left with the itch to built another highway monster. if times get better i am thinking the 280z with rb26, 240z with sr20, 89-91 mk3 supra with 2jz, or 2jz on my current e30. which ever project i pic will depend on my budget after i graduate from collage.

If you are running a stock drivetrain (Apart from LSD and tranny.) I should have been more specific and said you might encounter some problems with drivetrain (Mainly maintenance wise, parts getting worn out much faster, etc.) But there are those who modify drivetrain from say a GT-S or similar cars and fit them to Z`s, others are lucky and simply dont encounter these sort of problems for a long while, depending on their driving too. Owh, I`d fit a "home-made" RB30DE with triple webers :)

yes,but they are not using an L series engine they are using the OSgiken engine. it is an after market dohc made specifically for racing. my point is that the engine alone cost around 11k and for that kind of money i rather get rb or jz series engine. do u understand now. if they waned to keep it oem they would use the original engine like nissan did back in the day. and again the OsGiken motor cant not be used for competition.

Yeah basically a RB30DET block and RB25 head :) My economy is a bit weak at the time as well, so I decided to go for ae86 now, and get a 280zx later :)

I know the engine is original, but it`s still a L engine no matter what it`s modification and thats a fact you can`t escape. My previous apartment host owns a S30Z 1970` with RB26DETT, having constant problems with drivetrain, if you are going to use a RB or JZ be prepared to pay atleast 2 grand usd for such an engine with all wiring looms, ecu, turbo`s, etc so my opinion is that the L series is the better engine for the Z`s :)

Exactly, should be able to get around 90`ish more hp out of that 2.5 litre. Today I saw a triple dellorto carburettor turbo setup for sale, it was listed for 240z 1970 model, so I`m not sure whether its for L28 (Although a big possibility, not sure.) Would be a cool thing to have for a one of a kind "RB30DE/NAT" as I call it, hehe.

if is for the 1970 model it is probably for the l24 but i might be wrong because i don't know the engine year productions of the z's in Europe. if is a turbo system my guess is that it will be for the l28 since those where fuel injected and they also came turbo on the 280zx.

i understand your point wen it comes to a restore project, but the OSgiken motor isn't an OEM part. if restoring to the original is the goal the building then the l24 is the way to go. if getting the most performance out of the factory motor is the goal then i would go with the l28 turbo. but if performance is name of the game then there is no doubt that the rb or jz is the way to go. btw you cant use the OSgiken motor in competition.

i dont know what ur talking about because i know 2ppl that have rb's swaps and never had problems with their drive-train. 1 was running a stock 280z lsd with an rb25 n the other was running a 300 lsd n never had a problem either. the 300 pumpkin needed some customization. btw the 300tt transmission bolts to the rb25. so if u have an rb26 u can just find a 300 tranny instead of buying an expensive rb tranny.

lmao. a turbo-kit would be the best upgrade to his car. i would go with like a t3/4, full t4, or gt30r, @ .8bars. it will make it fast and keep it reliable. but i wouldn't boost more than that without extra work to the engine.

Yeah, he wants a M3 or M5 now, but I have a feeling he`d be satisfied if he but turbo`ed the one he already has. Just the insurance on a M3 or M5 is sky high here, he already pays about 1700 euros a year for his 325i.. That`s 2 mint ke70`s or 2 ae86 shell`s right there..

the OS Giken head is beast combine the displacement of the stock block with the DOHC OS Giken head and you have a motor that i dare say is better then the S20. im really torn between the 432 and the OS Giken head.

As much as I love this thing, they have some tuning issues to resolve, they have overchoked the carbs alot, 1:06-1:11 case and point. Get that right, and the torque band will be perfect.

thats because the e36's have a poor weight to power ratio. if he swaps a 2j, or an ls1 into it then it would be fast as shit. also the 325i has emissions restrictions that make it slow. the IS's models are a bit faster. but the only e36's that are worth hooking up is the m3's. preferably the obd1 models.

the stock l24 240z engine had more torque then the stock s20 engine in the 432z.. only 10 hp less for the l24.

ok i know what the engine is, i am well familiar with the company. but the ORIGINAL engine was a L6 SOHC not an L6 DOHC. which means its not the original engine. now IF I was going to upgrade to a DOHC engine I rather use an RB,SR, or A 2JZ. more modern engines that have greater after market support and has a wide range of options for specs. the car is still awesome regardless, but i would have gone with a different setup.
