+10mars6pa I too saw this video at a prelicense age, 14 I think. It inspired me to scour the upper United States looking for the perfect Z. I ended up finding one in Nebraska which is about 7 hours from Minneapolis, convinced my dad that I needed this car. We drove down that Friday night to pick it up on Saturday morning. The 72' 240Z is a perfect California car. It pains me to write this up as I am in the last week or so of drivable weather.

I had a Rebello powered '74.5 260Z as my daily driver from 1987-1993. Widened, lowered, well over 300 HP, and insanely fun to drive. I come back to this youtube video from time to time to wax nostalgic and remember when all I had to do was walk out to the driveway if I wanted to hear this sound. The owner in the video's description of the lag below 5000 rpm is spot on, the backfire and flame throwing is also accurate. Irrespective of the sound, the thing I miss the most is getting in, turning the key and driving off in the morning. Even if work sucked, driving that car was a daily pleasure that I never took for granted. I lived in a condo complex and would get notes on my windshield from time to time from my neighbors who didn't appreciate their 5:30 am wakeup every weekday. Funny, none of them ever complained to me in person on Saturday or Sunday. I wonder why? For some reason, I have no pictures of the car, so all I have left are the memories, this video and the license plate I am looking at: Virginia - 1 QuickZ.

I remember messaging Dave on Instagram back in 2014 after buying my first 280z. We kept up here and there on social media. Years later on a whim, I told him I’d be making a road trip out to so-cal with a dear friend of mine. On a perfect summer day in 2019 we drove up his driveway and he met us with a couple of cold Lacroixs and showed us his Z. To make it even better he offered to take me on a spin around the block. He ended up pulling off and tossing me the keys to drive it back. I reminisce now back to that day. Dave is such a cool guy and yes - the emotions you feel watching this video are 10x more enhanced experiencing it in person. One of my favorite memories.

I learned to drive a stick sneaking my dad's 73 out. It was so loud and that straight 6 had such a distinctive sound I didn't dare start it in the garage and wake up my dad. Fortunately, it was so light I could easily push it out of the garage - after disconnecting the garage door opener and opening the door slowly by hand. My folks had the perfect driveway for this clandestine activity. I could roll back into the street, that had a slight downhill slope. With a little push, I could jump in, let it roll a couple blocks down the hill, and then pop the clutch to start it. After driving around the neighborhood a while, I would kill the ignition a couple blocks up and coast into the driveway and the garage with the lights off. I never got caught. The car is gathering dust at my brother-in-law's a couple of miles away from my folks' (now my mom's) house. I hope he restores it one day. If I hadn't moved overseas I would have fought him for it and restored it myself.

Its a Z. It would be like saying "I wish they sill made corvettes". They do, its just not the same car and for a lot of good reasons. The 370z really is some of the best bang for the buck you can get today. 330 - 350 hp right from the factory out of a naturally aspirated v6 with a warranty. Not to mention better engineered for handling and the like. But good news, if you really must have a classic fairlady...you can buy them all day on craigslist. I just don't know why a car company HAS to build the same car unchanged for decades. Then it becomes nothing more then a beetle or ford focus. When everyone has that car, it doesn't really stand out. Also, that is terrible when it is suppose to be a competitive sports car.

leftcoaster67 ... I do agree ! Very very good idea ! No electronics Gremlins inside !!!) . And about the price I have an idea myself : Ask to some economist to calculate the actual price from the 1970 price (1,08 x 29600 Francs = 31968 Euros (Dollars)) ,easy to do ,and it will be a doble marketing world blast ! The best global advertising a car manufacturer could imagine ; And Nissan is The manufacturer able to do that if it exist one ! (Nissan Directors ,call me I can do all the marketing plan if you make the car ).

I had a '71 240z back in college. At the time I bought it the car was ~11 years old. Unfortunately, it was from the rust belt, so some rather nasty rust spots started showing up not long after I bought her. Regardless of that, it was a great driving little car! I raced it in a bunch of SCCA solo events. I'd love to have a fully restored one some day (with A/C). Well, now I'm driving a '94 RX7. In a way, it's has a lot of character that the 240z does, but it's got a lot more power and you almost never seen and they are pretty darn rare these days.

Not long ago saw a beautifully restored white Z smashed to shit in downtown SF. The other car was a junky Volvo 240 GL. The owner walked away, but the Z is beyond recognition. A damn shame.

Rarely do I find videos on youtube that I come back to on a regular basis, but this video just keeps showing up on my recommended list and I can't help myself from watching this video again and again. I can't wait to buy my z.

I had no idea these could sound so mean and nasty. OK, I'm in on these, haha. What a nice build. This is one of my favorite Petrolicious productions, as it has inspired pure automobile lust.

It feels like the 370 will never be "THAT" car compared to a 240z.

the 370z can’t compare to the 240z if it can’t even compare to the 350z

My first car was a 1971 240Z. It was 1978 and I was 18. Sold the Torino I bought from my dad. Put the air dam and fender flairs GT qualifiers and wheels. Had it painted torch red. And people would point at it going down the road. I love my 2003 350.

I could have had a late 69 240 if I'd been more forward when I was in high school, never had the balls to cross my old man by buying something for myself though. still regret it.

That would be a seriously valuable car today if it was kept out of the rain. Your dad would have eventually would have become proud of your smart investing acumen.

I come back at least once a year to look at this video and a few others... the visuals are awesome, but moreso its the sounds. I cant get enough of that nasty idle, the screaming howl as she rips through the canyons. Awesome!

If I met you I'd want to tell you my 240Z stories, but there are too many...and they're all nuts. My interest in cars was ignited by the 240Z and led me into a 74 Triumph TR-6, a 74 Porsche 911S and finally a V12 95 Ferrari 456GT
@shaunleecollins7785 жыл бұрын
LOVE your collection. Especially the 74 911 S and the Triumph TR6! The TR6's are so cool and very easy to add a hell of alot of power to. I'm currently just getting started at 32! Got an '06 Porsche 997 Carrera 2S with a very rare spec and low miles (got it with 27k miles last September!). Also got a late 2017 BMW F80 M3 Competition. Looking for a Ferrari now. My other half wants says it HAS to be a Ferrari lol. So it's looking for the right one. I like the 550M/575M. Still quite affordable. In an ideal world it'd be a 360 Challenge Stradale. But there's no sound as glorious as a Ferrari V12 at high revs; other than an air cooled tuned flat six wailing at 7,000RPM of course! Plus the 911S will offer the most rewarding/challenging driving experience.

lovely - had a 260Z with a 2.8 on the original hitachi carbs from the 240 - awesome sound and 7000 rpm. It was red with the black bonnet as a safari tribute - miss it!

personally, taking out the straight six L and shoving in an american SBC takes the soul out of that car, making it really just another hotrod.

as many have stated... this video in 2013 is what made me want a Z. I was in school watching 240z videos all throughout high school study hall (not getting any work done). my early life has been dedicated to dreaming about a z. and last fall at the age of 21 I finally made my dreams come true, I drove 6 hours with the most money I've ever had in my life and bought a '72 blue metallic 240z, absolutely mint condition with only a few minor tasteful mods (rear spoiler, front air dam and panasport classic's).. if anyone is reading this and you want a 240z, I recommend it 100%. such an amazing car, and I hope to own mine for a long time
