It always baffles me that people say Bill Burr has gone soft ever since he got married and had kids. Like...did you not see his last 2 specials? He's just as brutal as he always has been, just not as angry.

I never heard anyone say he went soft he has however narrowed his rants to fewer subjects. Shitting on white women is like 40% of his act now. I’ve followed bills career since the first time I saw him live 18 years ago and his wife’s insecurities have slowly bled into his act.

It's hilarious that you mentioned anger. There was an episode of Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" with Bill Burr where they discussed how anger was good for comedy. Burr mentioned Brian Regan, a very funny American comedian who "works clean" and doesn't curse, but he's so funny because "there's a lotta rage there."
@machtnichtsseimann2 жыл бұрын
Just as one's taste in comedy is highly subjective, so is one's tolerance for anger? Lewis Black's and Sam Kinison's angry style didn't do much for me, but Bill Burr's style makes me laugh. As much as I respect Black and Kinison as comedians. Even Don Rickles came off as "angry" and annoyed to the core, but he could go on a roll that would tear me up. IMO the literalists, most often people who take every word so literally and every statement at face value, including today the Woke / PC crowd, don't see anger in any way constructive or comical as a means of expression. All right, if you can't even handle a Brian Regan, because he's "angry", then...maybe just listen to ol' Garrison Keillor.

He's so right about the WNBA. I actually watch later season games and try to attend the finals every year, but it's literally me and a bunch of other guys. You rarely see women in the audience unless they were clearly dragged along by their spouse. My team is four-time champions, and every year they win there's an event where a few hundred guys show up, and that's it. Why are women doing nothing to support it?
@mneugent76582 жыл бұрын
Either you like sports or you don't. Most women don't give a shit about sports. They just like to pretend to care about things and they LOVE to champion other women who say wildly incorrect crap in support of women. For example, anything Megan Rapinoe says. Btw, the women who show up in the first 3 rows of NBA games don't count since NBA games, especially the great seats, are fashion shows and pre-funks for the club. And while I truly appreciate their efforts women's bball just is not good. Its sub boys high school basketball quality minus any real shot at seeing athleticism. Imagine being a fan of Formula 1 or NASCAR and being asked to give a shit about this crazy new racing league where all of the drivers failed drivers ed and the cars were limited to early 80's Chrysler products like the K-Car and the LeBaron. That shit would get old fast too.

It might be because a lot of the time he doesn't do jokes. It's just "controversial" ranting about things that almost everyone actually agrees about without a funny part. for example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooiVoYurbpyMrNE He blames the audience for his failure to deliver a punchline. Many people watch him not to laugh, but to be confirmed of their views or whatever. The stuff he says is not that controversial as he makes it out to be though. He would not be so successful if it were. He is funny, but his style lost all appeal to me. I would contrast him with someone like Norm Macdonald, who always had an actual *Joke* in everything he said, and that was the most important thing to him.

So here's my issue with lauding a comedian for "telling the truth" - you have to decide if they are truth-tellers or just joke-tellers, because they can't be both. If they are "telling the truth", then they're open for being criticized when their "truth" is not actually true. You can't defend them in that case by claiming they're just telling jokes, or that comedy is supposed to offend. If that were true, then by definition you can't take what they're saying as the truth. Anyway, Bill Burr is the GOAT and has been for over a decade. But the shit he says is not above criticism.
@wierdgamer30672 жыл бұрын
No ones immune to criticism, and I think Bill Burr is beautifully aware of it. Though a balance of truth with a dash of exaggeration might be a good tool for *unwarranted* criticism. Like "I know what I said was wild when taken literally, but dial my dialogue down by 75%, and you'll find a lot more accurate truth or experience that I was working off of. Don't take my exaggeration to heart, only my source of material"

You've done reactions on college football, you see how many fans attend...and it's not a one off, it's happening in hundreds of college stadiums all around the country at the same time. Your talking about millions of people watching football only. So for women's soccer in Europe to attract 87,000 thats not going to happen in the US. You're comparing apples and oranges.
