You should of packed the staircase off of the trimmer, thus taking it tight to the wall.

Looking at using stairbox for my stairs. What's the issue with measuring again?. They don't include the stringer width when you design the staircase online?. Cheers
@OfficeBoyBuilder3 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure what the issue is, as we weren't the ones to measure it, but the gap was exactly the width of two stringers, so perhaps that was accounted for. They have a great customer support function, so if it's not clear on their site, just call them and I'm sure they'll help.

Yes I've seen that technique too - we were being a bit cautious because it was the first time we had used a Stairbox set before.
@snwman8623 жыл бұрын
As a rule stair width of stairs is always measured outside of string to outside of string. An internal measurement would be for regs where it's measured from wall to handrail. Minimum is 800mm on private dwelling stairs. Although I measure the 800mm to the newel post because generally the newel post is always wider and the first contact before handrail
@Lucidchronicles3 жыл бұрын
I read minimum width was removed now.
@snwman8623 жыл бұрын
@@Lucidchronicles has to be minimum width for stairs for regulations for access. Only reason stair width wouldn't need regulations is when access to lofts or storage access. If it's to another domestic room needs regulations.
@owendavies47163 жыл бұрын
Glad it's not just me who measures stairs wrong, I wouldn't be using those coach bolts fixed into the wall with resin either, you've used wedges to tighten up but as soon as those wedges come loose all your fixings will be loose. You should have used studs and tightened them after the resin had set

@@kallumbaston378 yes you would have a gap at the bottom. As it is such a small wall I would dot and dab a piece of plasterboard on then skim it. Better than having a gap all the way up the main run.

Hi mate as you are aware now the gap between wall and stringer is what we carpenters call a school boy error in measuring I recon you or whoever measured the opening didn’t put in the correct measurement. 100mm is the classic error either to wide or to narrow. Also now your a builder call the tools by their correct name what’s a “multi cutter” ? Posh builders but hey your having a go well done.
@OfficeBoyBuilder11 ай бұрын
The error was the thickness of the stringer (on both sides) which hadn't been accounted for by the client who ordered the stairs.

Do you know what's the pitch of the stairs?
@OfficeBoyBuilder3 жыл бұрын
I don't know that, sorry! We didn't order them, the client did, so I didn't ever find that out. I imagine they're a standard pitch though, which is determined by the rise and run of each step. Typically you have around 200mm of rise and 225mm of run per step, and then however many steps you have on the staircase decides how high it goes.

How much do you charge to fit a stair box staircase? I am impressed that you solved the gap on the edge of the stairs, a very clean finish
@OfficeBoyBuilder3 жыл бұрын
Staircase fitting as a stand alone job is typically quite expensive, because of the time consuming nature of it. I don't actually do that myself, it is wrapped up as part of the cost of the overall job. However, depending on where you live, the supply and fit of a staircase could easily cost £1.5-2K depending on the side of it.

@OfficeBoyBuilder11 ай бұрын
2 points; 1) you're not the client, so that's a relief. 2) the staircase was measured and ordered by the client. We simply fitted what they had bought. Not an ideal situation to be in, but equally not something we can change after the fact
