I did d1=distance column moves when officer is going forward, d2=distance column moves when officer is going back, first 100+d1=distance officer rode forward=3d1, or 100+d1=3d1, or 100=2d1, or d1=50 m, now 100-d2=distance officer moves back=3d2, or 100-d2=3d2, or 100=4d2, or d2=25, and d1+d2=total distance column moves, so 50+25=75 m

Hi Sal, When 2Vt1 is subtracted from 3Vt1, wouldn’t the answer be just V? Thanks!

Thanks for everything, that's some mind blowing problems even though they are all logic and simple math rules. WEW!

Ok. When the horseman has moved 100 meters forward, the column has moved only 33-1/3 meters. But when the horseman moves back, they have moved only 11-1/9 meters forward before he reaches the back of the column :) So they move 44-4/9 meters the entire time. You can tell I don't like algebra....

Gwendolyn Ram no he doesn’t move 100 m forward, he goes 100 m+distance the column moves

@@arinshrivastava1000 yea true the horseman is moving while the column is also moving along side so you take the sum.
