So Smart!! Former lifeguard & swim teacher, here. We had toddler (a few infants) classes. VERY 1st thing they learn is how to turn over & float on their backs, unsupported, eventually. It's an important life lesson. It's really amazing because they gain so much confidence almost immediately. When they realize they can control it & hold their breath & go under. Wow! Of course there's always a few that had a bad experience elsewhere & are there to recover & learn. I taught one deaf kid he was one of the fastest to understand & take off.

@jakoiamАй бұрын
No the parent did not save their child's life....the officer who found him did and as far as the parent goes, CPS should step in and take that child away since the parent clearly isn't capable of protecting his 3 year old autistic child. Any parent that "loses" their 3 year old autistic kid and that kid makes his 3 year old butt into a neighbors backyard above ground pool with walls he most likely couldn't climb over on his own doesn't deserve to keep their kid.....you are praising the problem which is the parent....

@jakoiam I never commented on what kind of person the parent was. I don't care. But for ALL of us that see this, this goes to show you that a few swimming lessons one summer could one day save the life of your child. Which is the case with my own. 🥹❤️ Good day you miserable person.
@BrandoR3Ай бұрын
@jakoiam I stated nothing about what kind of person that this parent was, because I don't know. What I do see, is that the swimming lessons that he gave this child, likely saved his life. The kid had been in there for a while. The cop would have been removing a dead body without the floating skill that the kid remembered. We all should take the time to teach this stuff to our young children, or seek out someone who can. Could save their life one day.

I have lived this experience. Thankfully we have all the bells and whistles and alerts and the tracking dog and cameras on top of direct supervision. The day she ended up in the neighbors pool, 3 adults were present, one a mandated reporter , both parents and she still scaled 2 fences and climbed into an unfenced pool. 3 adults couldn't catch her. Not having the ladder in the pool didn't stop her. The adults can't climb 6' fences like she did. The time it took us to unlock gates, get over and around things, she was already in that pool. People who do not live with one of these 1 in 36 kids, you really, really do not grasp the level of non-stop work it takes to keep them alive. Drowning is the leading cause of death for kids who have autism/are autistic. It's the second leading cause of death for ALL children worldwide. This problem is not exclusive to the autistic/autism community! Every child deserves the same chance at life and it is our duty as a community to support every child's health, well being and growth. Thank you for recognizing a very real and present danger to ALL children, world wide. When you ask "where were the parents" don't forget to ask "what have I contributed to my community to promote safety for all kids? Do I stop for school bus stop signs? Do I drive sober 100% of the time? Did I secure my property? Lock my car doors? " Ask yourself if you've shown empathy today while you are at it. ❤

I'm a firm believer of teaching babies how to swim as soon as possible, there are programs that teach them when they're months old, almost shortly after birth, I honestly don't recall how young but it's based on the fact that babies are submerged in fluid during pregnancy so they instinctively know how to hold their breath, they teach them to roll over and float on their backs, it's fascinating to watch these babies floating in the pool, they're so tiny but this here is a great example of how it can save so many lives, what a great father.
@Miapetdragon69Ай бұрын
Well, you are absolutely rock star parents! How many times do children remember doing it.. sometimes just once, only to go back and think well Mom and Dad let me do this last time so let me do it on my own now... One of the most amazing things that you guys did as parents was to teach him how to float on his back! On an unrelated side note, my parents started training us for house fires when we were really really little had absolutely really no thought of why our parents are doing this.... Fast forward to 1985 I was pregnant with my daughter... I have clothes in the dryer, it was Martin Luther jr King's birthday as a matter of fact... Waiting for my clothes to dry... I remember parents had just installed smoke detectors not even a week before.... When the fire alarm started going off, I thought I had forgotten to open the flu on our wood burning stove.... I opened the sliding doors to open what I thought was going to be opening the flu only to find my entire home is engulf in flames ... The reason why this is relatable for you sir and your wife... Because that smoke alarm triggered something in me, just leave everything behind because it can be replaced, but you can't! ... Couldn't really remember why I just automatically walked out of the house....only with my parents saying ...I'm so glad that we taught you children fire drills and I thank the smoke detector that had been put in one week prior to the house fire
