Good for him! I would have changed careers but its his right! Im sorry the kid lost his life but the fact is he was in a park waiving a toy gun that resembled a real gun! He was doing it so much a black resident of this area is the one who called the police! I m pretty sure this officer did not want to kill anyone that horrible day! Loehman was not fired for the shooting. He was fired because he lied on his application. He had been fired from a suburban PD because of emotional instability. The officer driving the cruiser made a dangerous situation worse by driving right up to Rice. He violated the principle of Time, distance , and cover. He should have stopped some distance away, evaluated the situation and given Rice commands. Safer for Rice, the officers and the public. BTW i'm retired cop.
