Official Announcement: Kit Harington Finally Reveals Why HBO Canceled The Jon Snow Series!

In a new interview, actor Kit Harington revealed his Jon Snow (Game of Thrones Sequel Series) is no longer in development at HBO. He has finally answered the question about whether or not HBO is making this show. As of right now, it's on the shelf... For what it’s worth, HBO NEEDS TO EVENTUALLY MAKE A JON SNOW SHOW! Perhaps after the current prequels wrap a few loose ends up that could provide important context or a foundation to build on…if we must wait that long. HBO surely knows *most* of the fandom (likely) WANT a fulfilling sequel to make up for the thing they most hate. And more about the White Walkers and that ice castle in the distant north. Just my geeky opinion! Also, Melisandre is freakin’ old. So is Old Nan. Would be interesting to see one or both pop up in HOTD or another prequel as an “Easter egg.”

That is really interesting, I didn’t think anyone would be excited for a GOT sequel after it’s disastrous last 2 seasons. The main reason for this fail being the lack of adaptable material from the books. A Jon Snow show would have been another step in this wrong direction. Why be excited about it ?

I feel exactly the same as well. I don't see how any GOT fan could not be super excited to see the future of the most exciting character in the show. To see what happens as Jon and Tormund giants bane goes back beyond the wall to live out his life. With Arya, and all the other characters willing to come back, I'm sure they can, and WILL, EVENTUALLY, come up with a great story to tell about what happens after the disaster that was the rushed, and butchered, last 2 seasons of GOT. There's too much interest by the fans to continue the story of the last, true Targaryen, Jon Snow!

A Jon Snow sequel is really all I am interested in going forward. I'm watching House of the Dragon, and it's okay, but I'd really like to see a Jon Snow sequel. If I'm being honest, I'd also rather see GOT season 6, 7 and 8 relegated to "legends" status and continue the story when Winds of Winter is out, but the actors are perilously close to aging out.

The seeds were already there “why do you think I came all this way?” that’s definitely alarming coming from a character who can get visions of the future (at least at times). This! As well as “you were exactly where you were supposed to be” when saying goodbye to Jon. And only caring about the location of Drogon during his very first small council meeting. In fact his entire arc was clearly working up to him being the true villain. The fact he saw dragons over Kingslanding but did nothing to stop Dany’s descent into madness. The long extended stare down between him and the Night King, which was clearly very intentional. We also never see Dany’s (or Drogon’s) face from the moment they start burning the city. We know Bran has the ability to worg into animals. That would also explain why Dany’s apparent descent into madness was so rapid and unconvincing from the viewers’ perspective. As a filmmaker myself, it felt intentionally so. We never got an explanation for who the NK was, what he wanted, or why he was killed off halfway through the ‘final’ season. 8 seasons of build up to “the only war that matters”, to end it like that? Perhaps, that’s because whatever he was, Bran is now it. These are all intentional decisions in my opinion, not just ‘bad writing’ on behalf of D&D. Season 8 was just one giant exercise in misdirection. The ‘ending’ doesn’t make sense because it’s not the end, and was never supposed to be. I’m still convinced one day (when all the cast and crew have gone off and done other things) there will be a season 9, and this will be the direction of travel. Tyrion to Jon - “ask me again in 10 years”.

That’s what I’ve been saying. They could say that the power of the 3 eyed raven corrupted him. How about it turns out Bran had been manipulating events by warging into Daenerys and controlling her actions knowing he would wind up King. Meanwhile Jon who would be now King of the real north and Sansa would be forced to remove Bran from power. You could do a lot with Arya she’s always been closest to Jon but she has seen so much death it could have sent her straight to the dark side.

Considering the show overtook the books, perhaps there was an agreement between HBO and GRRM that the show would go up to a certain point, and then the books have to be allowed to catch up, also giving the cast time to pursue other projects having had GoT take up 10 years of career time. I bet it returns in a few years, set 10 years later.

This was the only announced sequel I was interested on and excited about. I've watched HotD slowly and without much care, I couldn't care less about Dunk and Egg, Nymeria or Aegon's conquest. I would watch a prequel about Robert's Rebellion. The only reason I wanted Snow was to cleanse my palate from GoT and also get a better conclussion that we won't get from ASOIAF. Winter is not coming with George and his multiple side projects.

I imagined that the beginning of Snow would be jon discovering a giant black meteor structure where when he touched it, he got visions. Basically it would turn out the others were an alien civilisation or somesuch. And there is a bigger threat coming. Jon goes south to warn his family and would find the political turmoil that ensued after Sansa is queen of the North and bran being constantly surfing the Web and not actually running the country. They could finally reveal that bran was probably the bad guy. There's still a lot to grow on, but who knows. Maybe arya discovers something west and returns east with news of another land conquered by the white walkers. I could ramble for ages

It's a shame. I think they should have been able to come up with a decent story line. I would have happily watched a show if they made it a mystery about a "Night's Queen" figure. Exploring the history of the Night's King and his corpse bride. I mean the woman was sentient so she couldn't have been a wight, and she wasn't the traditional male white walker, so who was she? We saw Jon get brought back from a stab wound. Dragon clearly took Danny to the red priests where she will be born again in the fire. Imagine a really dark twisted, undead Daenerys rising in the east. Like lady Stoneheart but tied into all the red fire priests dark magic. They could have Kinvara be the one who brings it back. Then it could be a three eyed raven Bran night king against the evil red goddess Danny. It literally fits the whole ice and fire thing perfectly and could give a much better send off for any characters that survived. There is plenty of story and it can’t be left with the ending we got.

Here's how you rework the final seasons for a Jon Snow show. Bran, now the King of the Seven Kingdoms, slowly finds himself becoming something akin to the Night King with a disease similar to Greyscale. He keeps trying to warg into himself and others in the past, to prevent the Night King from touching him, but finds himself unable to warg before he's touched. Bran eventually learns of a cure, but it's too late for him. This time, there would be no dragons to stop him as the new Night King, and without Jon or Arya, Kings Landing would become a city of the undead, and eventually, the entirety of Westeros. Bran ultimately wargs into himself right after he's touched, and decides not to go back to Winterfell, but to Valyria for the cure. The scene cuts to Jon Snow, and he wakes up resurrected, and remembers the future that never was.

First they probably want to concentrate on the spin-offs and see how they’ll do, if successful, I bet that after five years or so there will be at least a discussion about a GOT sequel. I mran the story is right there waiting to be told. There is a reason why the White Walkers managed to come back after the first Long Night. Jon could travel very far north and find the source which would bring the White Walkers back eventually. Also there is the possibility of ice dragons hidden on the highest and coldest place. Also we could see them rebuilding the culture of the Wildlings. There is also a Wildling Princess in the books who could be a possible love interest and they could find out some sinister background on the Three Eyed Raven, indicating he is not the best choice as King...Come on they could just cast some determined fans as writers to work with George and we would find a way to bring this show to life.

I think it would be lovely to see a show that continues the story, especially with a plot twist like Bran being the Night King. That would be amazing storytelling with a full circle dynamic not to mention that “fixing the problem” is a cornerstone of Jon Snow’s character development. He would be compelled to act since it is his family member. I could also see where the Faceless Men or Red Priestess could bring Daenerys back into the storyline but only after Snow meets and starts to fall in love with someone else, got to keep it complicated. Maybe the Queen of the North passes and he returns? Maybe he encounters some of the Children of the Forest and they tell Snow about the Three Eyed Raven/Night King connection? Just some ideas off the top of my head.

Kinda disappointed, I felt like that they could’ve done something with what’s West of Westeros. They could have a new Enemy from West of Westeros a very powerful threat that has Aryia fleeing back to tell Bran and all the Kingdoms. This threat coming to conquer Westeros and slave the kingdoms to their liking as they have done to other islands and kingdoms out West. The New Enemy could be like a big Empire. This would at least have Jon going around recruiting around the kingdoms and fighting small skirmishes from these West Enemies that have scout ships raiding the west coast of Westeros and also taking Iron Islands setting up base close to Westeros. This would be the best way to redeem Jon Snow amongst Westeros. Could implement new Characters and Warriors while bringing back some OG Characters as well. Maybe Drogon comes back in some kind of way with Moqorro the Fire Priest and tells Jon about a his future and how it’s not yet done. Have Moqorro arrive in Westeros with Danaerys having revived her after finding her and Drogon also bringing an army. Could also implement Young Griff trying to take the Thrown adding more story and another conflict as the West Enemies are still making their way to Westeros. (I’m a delusional fan that wants to see a sequel to the great GOT)

The story is literally on the tee for them. Drogon flys Dany’s body to Red priests and priestesses. They resurrect her and now she’s even more mad due to the betrayal. Drogon is changed too because of this connection with her. She returns to conquer Westeros. Jon must return south. All this after he does some minor northern plot points while we are learning about this mysterious new up and coming conquerer.

This show was dead in the water. What exactly would the story be? Everyone died, everyone else got closure, and peace came to westeros. Unless he like discovered something way out beyond the wall, now that the dead are gone. Some giant threat. And he’d get the old crew back together to - Damn, on second thought , this might’ve been good

Nah knowing HBO they'll create it now that they know it has all this hype around it. Maybe in a decade we'll get something from this. Peace in westoros? Huge claim for a huge world where anything can happen. Is everyone dead? We'll see.

Bran is king, and there’s no “major” foe to battle or conflict to solve. So It’d have to be jon snow somehow forming a group to battle something bigger, outside westeros. Maybe arya returns and warns them about something beyond westeros or smt.

Northern intrigue, "the north remembers", "Eddard Stark held the north while Robert Barratheon held the other 6 kingdoms" never made sense as in the end the north followed whoever had the most power. The scheming from the books never made it on the show. Plus book Jon is a tactical genius who is decent with the sword while show Jon is a tactical buffoon whose As good as prime Jamie and Arthur Dayne on the sword. Its frustrating that we never got to see THAT Jon.

Honestly i was really looking forward to Snow...im really not very interested in House of the dragon..its depressing and i already know how it ends. MAYBE Aegons conquest, don't care about Dunk and Egg either

I like both of your ideas about Jon Snow learning something about the White Walkers and returning to deal with a malevolent Bran Stark. They never answered anything about the White Walkers, which was ridiculous. I actually can't bring myself to watch anything regarding Game of Thrones after the last three cartoonish seasons of the original show.

That's very sad, as it is the only show I am really interested in seeing, with D&D having left so many unfinished plot issues. Also the character development of Jon Snow in light of his trauma. The prequel stuff does not really interest me, although it is well made.

I love the lore of TSOIAF and the GoT TV universe, but I'd be just as satisfied to see many of the potential "Snow" GoT alumni cast in a different premium HBO series unrelated to GoT.

Yk what i like, I don't think alot of people picked it up. GRRM is Samwell and Jon Snow is the type of dude he looks up to or what he would want to be. At the end of the show. Sam shows Tyrion the book of ASOIAF and I think this gives it away.

He says it as a joke ("Why am I talking to you here, I should be home writing?") but he is absolutely correct. Unfortunately, FAME has gotten to George, and he really seems to enjoy interviews, conventions, interactions with writers on TV, consulting on films and TV shows (his, of course), dinners, blogging, nights out with cast members, etc. All of these things, enjoyable as they are, have seduced him away from his real calling and life purpose; which is his writing; and have delayed and perhaps prevented him from finishing his masterwork (and Legacy to Literature), which is "A Song of Ice and Fire."

I am no expert but maybe they could have gone with the story of Jon realising that bran is the real villain and he manipulated him in the last season to kill dany he is also the one responsible for genocide at king’s landing and he sent him to the knights watch intentionally to remove him (Jon who is aegon Targaryen the true lord of the the seven kingdoms by default because its was his ancestors who forged the seven kingdoms into the one we know today) from a potential contender as the ruler the spin off could have explored the idea of Jon realising all this and going searching for drogon and trying to figure out a way to dodge the blood raven’s wrag and finally killing bran and the blood raven with him forever with the help of dragon and some old valyrian magic and restoring peace and harmony over the seven kingdoms for years to come

The ending of Game of Thrones left many with mixed emotions including myself, especially after investing so much time and passion into the series. And now hearing that the Jon Snow sequel/series has been shelved adds another layer of disappointment, especially for those who were eagerly anticipating more from that storyline. While House of Dragons offers a deep dive into the rich history of Westeros and the Targaryen dynasty, I would have preferred to see Jon Snow's story continue, just sayin'.

I think most of if not all fans were sympathetic to Kit Harrington and wanted to go back to end things better. It’s too much of a risk though and HBO would have to admit they royally F’d up in the first place. They’re playing it safe with HotD and Dunk and Egg before they try anything “risky” or “uncharted”.

I disagree - how Jon Snow’s story ended in GOT was the most disappointing. He spent a season and a half walking around saying ‘you’re my Queen’ to Daenerys everytime she had a twinge of envy/jealousy/anger.

The average viewer probably wouldn't mind a magicless action-adventure story. GOT removed/toned down many of the mystical and magical elements in the books (e.g. no magic Stark tombs, a lot less warging, no eldritch pirate, etc.)

GoT and HotDwouldn't be the same show without dragons, Night Walkers, Red Priests/ Priestess, warlocks, prophetic dreams, etc. I also think the series may be doomed. We all remember the last time a show went into production without a completed book series to go off of. Dunc and Aeg is still waiting on the next novela.

Personally, I would have gone with a simple side story idea like Arya disappearing on her explore and Jon and a few other call back characters leading an expedition to find her, in a strange unknown part of the world they could have a lot of freedom with the script, like a random story that didn't make it into the books.
