It's a little difficult for people who are not familiar with Japanese and can speak English to pronounce "Official髭男dism / Official Hige Dandism" correctly. The band name is a coined word that they themselves made up, and it's a pun-like name that mixes English and Japanese. "Official" + "髭 / ひげ" + "男 / だん" + "dism" "髭 / ひげ / Hige" is not pronounced "hάɪdʒ" but "ひげ = hige". "髭 / Hige" refers to the hair around your chin and mouth. It’s beard. 🥸😂 As you probably know, "Dandism" is a word that ideologically represents the coolness of men and their cool lifestyle. And since dandy men often have beards that suit them well, they expressed it as "髭男 / ひげだん＝Hige-Dan". The group name is a little long, so many people shorten it to "Hige-Dan," and I find myself wanting to say "Hige-Dan" too. Apparently, they chose this name to express their desire to be men who people around them would think of as "dandy" when they get older. 🤗 It's always a topic of conversation, but none of the members of "Official Hige Dandism" have beards, so many people wonder why they chose that band name. Even if not everyone can achieve the happiness they envision, I believe that recognizing the value of others and wishing them happiness is an important sincerity for everyone. In my country, if a girl agrees to go on a date with a guy, then this is already a signal that she does not mind being in a relationship with this guy. and if this date goes well, then they can become a couple. it happens by itself, no one says “I like you, let’s be a couple.” 🙂 If I liked a girl, but I understood that we could only be friends with her, then I would not pretend to be her friend and would let her go.

However, the emotional pull that makes us love someone cannot be stopped, even by ourselves. No matter how hard we try, we cannot easily hate someone we fall in love with, so everyone experiences pain, to a greater or lesser extent, at times. Interesting song, it's deceiving because of the pop sound. But the title does say "pretender." I noticed that young generation doesn't seem to express their actual emotion. They want to make everything blur instead of obvious crash (not crush). I get the feeling that this person in the song haven't stepped into actual "love relationship" with the girl he likes, just yet. Because I see some distance between the two from what was said in the lyric, like him touching her hair, and only that was painful enough for him, means he could never get any close to her than that? On top of that, the guy already know it's not gonna work with her, and he doesn't even want to do something about it. He rather give up! Not sure who is pretender.. the guy who wants the girl but don't want to writhe in the fact that he's not the one for her? or the girl who has someone in her heart but won't admit it and willing to continue on flirting with different guy? Maybe both. SO here's my guess. This song could be about a guy who is just looking from distance at a girl who has crush on somebody else. 🤔
