The cast surround those two players isn't even close in ability, I we can make the argument that if you flipped their situations both teams would be in the exact same spot. That one is more than a little weird. Wembanyama is leading the league in blocks and it's not even particularly close. While on a minutes restriction, no less. Gobert is a defensive monster again this year, and Bam always is, but so is Victor. I love me some Chet, but he is nowhere near as disruptive defensively as the Frenchmen Rudy and Victor. I'm starting to get the impression that people just don't want to give Wemby credit for what he's doing so that they're not "on the bandwagon". He's leading rookies in all major stats but steals (again, while on a restriction), so obviously "it's a tight race"? WTF? Chet deserves his flowers, but the talent levels on their respective teams are light years apart so bringing team success in is kinda weird. And that seems to be about the only argument people have for putting him in the mix, especially with Victor's efficiency improving.

I like all the takes, however I think you have the most improved player award all wrong. All the guys you named were expected to be good. Maxey was a 20ppg scorer last year and was given a bigger role. The other two guys are players under 22 years old who are developing. You expect your lottery picks to get better in their first few seasons. The clear candidates for this award are Coby White and Dante Exum. Coby White averaged less than 10ppg last year and it looked like his career was trending in the wrong direction, and now he's putting up 19 a night, and the Bulls have been winning since he's been starting. Dante Exum was out of the league playing overseas since 2020, and is now playing a massive role on a contending Mavs team. Those players weren't expected to get better, and they did so in a massive way. The players you named are better than both this guys, but are far less deserving of this particular award.

What does wemby have to do to win roty at this point? Has surpassed Chet’s stats even more this past month than he already was, and is still a “very close race”. Chet is having a great rookie year but cmon when has team success ever mattered. Advanced metrics has Chet ahead for DWS (2.2 for Chet and 1.8 for Wemby) and Wemby ever so slightly ahead in DBPM (1.9 for Wemby to 1.8 for Chet). Chet also fouls alot less. Both are amazing as rookies. Gobert is 3.2 DWS and 1.7 DBPM.

No way Bogi is not even honorable mention for 6th man of the year. He is in the sam role as Hardaway, same playstyle, just even a better 3pt shooter, on also a super high valume. He is one of the very few 40% 3point shooters overall on 7 attempts on more. Last year only Curry him and 1 more guy had that stat. This year a percentage is a little bit bellow 40, since his percentage dropped a little bit, cause he ran cold last few games. But dude has been officaly best 6th man of the month for 2 months in a row. With 20 ppg and almost 40% for 3, as well as 3 assists and 3 rebounds per game. For me Bogi has to be better option than Hardaway, and at least deserving of an honorable mention.

Hoops, I respect ya, but no fucking way is tim the 6th man in any scenario. As a mavs fan this dude ain't it. Yes he'll have a 30 point game followed by consecutive stinkers, his defensive capabilities is that of an empty gatorade bottle, and if his shot isn't going down, he's pretty much a less expensive Tobias Harris without the height advantage. Not just the above mentioned criticism but his shot selection is fucking awful in even the most critical of situations. In the knicks game when we got a offensive rebound they had the chance to call a timeout or drive to the basket and THJ just chucked it instead of passing and bricked it. We were just lucky the Knicks forgot how to rebound for that entire possession down the stretch.

Last season even tho they won 40 games as rebuilding team OKCs biggest glaring weaknesses that kept them out the playoffs was their lack of an interior presence and rim protection they were the worst interior defense team in the NBA. Now at the time of this comment they are the 1st seed in the West are the 5th best defense, lead the league in Blocks and give up the second least amount of points in the paint. Chet Has fixed our biggest defensive issue.

Blocks are aren't even a third of defense. You can legit get 0 bpg and it doesn't matter if you are an extremely smart and great defender. I'm a raptors fan so I hate Embiid as much as everyone. However, his playoff success (or lack thereof) has been blown way out of proportion. He's been playing through (pretty brutal) injuries for his last couple playoffs which significantly impacted his movement. In the years he's been healthy, he performed exceptionally, he just had Ben Simmons on his team. If the 76ers can put together a healthy playoff run, don't be surprised to see them in the conference finals

SGA’s team has a much better record and most of advanced stats are substantially better than Luka and he’s an elite defender while Luka is a liability on that end. Also SGA is ahead currently in betting odds to win MVP

Luka has also been defending pretty well for his standards when the Mavericks are healthy because when Luka has to play 40 minutes a night and carry such an offensive load like in December he doesn't have the energy to do it on the defensive end aswell. And don't forget to mention how Luka clears SGA in every category except defense. It's the MVP award, Most Valuable Player and in that aspect Luka clears.

It's pretty disingenuous to mention Chet's case and not mention that his efficiency is light years better than Wemby's. That's his main argument. The goal of basketball is to put the ball in the basket as efficiently as possible, and Chet is lapping Wemby in that regard. And it's not like he's that far behind Wemby defensively. I get that having more talent around him and a simplified role counts for something, but Chet's role is still a large one on the best team in the West.

I don't see Wembanyama winning the ROTY award. All the media have already made up their minds. They already have Chet as their ROTY. So regardless of what Wemby does for the rest of the season, he may not get it. Richard Jefferson, Stephen A, JJ Reddick are all riding Chet and ignoring what Wemby has been doing as of late. It's so dumb that for the first time in history, the ROTY award will be based on team success. Just last night, Chet dropped 8 pts and his team still won. Easy to win when you have many all-star caliber teammates. Honestly Wemby probably helps his team out more but it's kinda hard when he has no help and they're using his minutes restriction for tanking.

impact on winning lmao. chet just dropped 8 pts and still won last night vs the blazers. the other game he had an inefficient 15 pts (shot 6/16) against the jazz and again they won. that boy is getting carried so hard. wemby had to put up great numbers just for his team to be competitive but imagine wemby dropping 8 pts? im sure the spurs will get buried easily.
