i LOVE Miguel's work (can't wait for ep7), but there's no harm in fleshing out small characters a bit more even if they don't serve much purpose for the dance of the dragons. i would've loved to see a bit of background to laena/daemon and harwin/rhaenyra. but anyways. that scene with Daemon and his daughters shouldn't have been cut out though. that's all i'm gonna say. he's not that bad at being a father even if he was so shaken up (those scenes having been filmed in the first place is proof)

Him poisoning her mind with the idea Rhaenrya would be forced to kill Alicant's children is becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. If Alicant wasn't scheming to get her own kids on the throne, Rhaenrya would not have even considered having them killed.

It's weird that Miguel talks about letting us get to know characters when we barely got to know Harwin and Laena. We didn't get to explore the dynamic between Rhaenyra and Harwin, or that between Daemon and Laena (not really). We could have gotten a bit more Also why are they so hellbent on making Daemon a complete ass? At the very least he was a good father- so why cut out the scene of him comforting his daughters? Speaking of cut scenes, why cut out the argument between Rhaenyra and Alicent after her marriage to Viserys is announced? That scene would have added so much to their relationship, it couldn't have hurt to have kept it in.

They cut out the scene of him hugging his daughters to show that he isn't a good father. He has no clue what to do and leaves them alone when their mother dies and he totally ignores one of his daughters because she doesn't have a dragon. You have no indication that Daemon is a good father, you completely made it up in your own head.

They're butchering his character by making him oversimplified and a one dimensional villain. He's evil and light mixed equal parts in source material, creators are literally peeling away any possible humanity his character has in show. Disappointed as hell tbh. He's literally the most important character of the dance, his arc shouldn't have been changed this way. Daemon is make or break for the series but I think they'll do him just like they did Dany and Jon smh

@@areebariz1639 I’ve never read the books so I would have to disagree. I love Daemon’s character. He’s ambiguous, chaotic, a true gray character. I watch a lot of reaction channels. He’s highly loved because he is so complex. He makes the episode better just by being in it. Matt Smith really infuses the role with an irresistible charisma. I just want to see him interact with his daughters because they really need him. But in the trailer the girls are bleeding so I’m suspecting he’ll react when he finds out someone hurt his girls.

This episode is PACKED, while it's not bad in any sense, I can see how viewers getting lost and confused if they haven't read Fire and Blood. The minor characters, namely Laenor, Harwin and Laena could have been fleshed out a little bit more, their screen time was just enough to get me interested in their entanglement with main characters (Daemon and Rhaenyra) but not a second more. Even the main characters feel somewhat inconsistent and abrupt due to the time jump. Maybe another episode focusing on how the characters evolved during the 10 years could have helped.

Agreed. Just one more episode to flesh out those relationships would have been great. I think the showrunners underestimated how much fans would like Harwin and Laena. Lots of breadcrumbs were dropped but we didn’t get to see the payoff.

Vhagar was baelon dragon (viserys father) and caraxes aemon dragon( rhaenys father) those two are brothers and their dragons spent alot of time together fighting enemies so the two dragon have been close for a long time.

Not everyone has to like every episode or every moment. I’ve loved this so far, and I even didn’t have a lot of issue with the time jump. I would have liked more time with the people who died. The ONLY thing that was ever make or break for me was Daemon’s character. Sure I have headcannon. But all I really want is for him to be equal parts light and dark like George describes him. I don’t care how they do it. I’m hopeful since Condal is in charge it will be fine. As of now, they’re not indicating they care very much. We’ll see.

Everybody praises Miguel for directing Battle of the Bastard, Winds of Winter and Hardhome, rightfully so BUT Let's not forget he's also (not solely) responsible for The Bells and The Long Night. And if I remember correctly he was the one who blamed people that their TVs sucked when people were complaining that the Long Night was way too dark! I'm happy that he "stepped down" as showrunner and they brought back Alan Taylor for season 2 (who directed s1e9 Baelor and s1e10 Mother of Dragons).

If Daemon doesn't want the Throne why did he smirk looking through the secret room listening to the Small Council, when Viserys said he has no desire for it and Otto said the Gods have yet to make a man who lacks the patience for absolute power. Additionally, why did he orchestrate the date on the town in such a way as to try to force Viserys's hand that he could marry Rhaenerya?

Rhaenyra is a way-in for him into Viserys' circle. He can't have that through simple power-chasing (Viserys won't make him his Hand or his heir and keeps sending him away), so he goes after his brother's daughter. She serves as a stand-in for Viserys, in which he can use her both to get to him as much as he can (because of his bitter feelings) and as a replacement, because Viserys's been rejecting him forever.
