@@benknapp3787 not to mention it would be a 1080p performance boost as it is the benchmark norm, and also, 1440p is the new norm if you can afford a gpu that can carry intensive graphics loads if you at the same time can afford the 7800X3D, its all about rational and proportionate setup combos, so 1080p just becomes irrelevant at the end, and the gpu bottleneck will be more apparent as well.

Given how much real estate space there is for the Vcache chip on top, and the very limited number of through connectors available on top, it absolutely has to be much smaller. Regarding the new 3D cache, it connects to the main chip through fewer contact points. While the previous one had 100 points (percent), the current link has about 60 link points. I think Moore's law as soon as possible explained the situation, but he is not allowed to go into details. Basically, the reason is the manufacturing processes that do not allow such huge contact points at new smaller nanometers. There are other reasons, I hope they dare to come out with a chip for the purpose, and not just remain a test area that is already more than 5 years old..... I also forgot something interesting. The new cache is thinner and this allows for better temperature control. That's where these differences in synthetic tests come from. Still, same speed but bigger cache. There is no speed reduction here because of "thick thermal insulation" 🙃

I think AMD has delivered a true masterpiece of engineering with the 9000 series X3D chip. The innovation here is that the 3D cache isn't stacked on top of the chiplets anymore, but beneath them, allowing for much higher CPU frequencies, not trailing the non-X3D anymore. The X3D chip are therefore the new go-to chips for general high-performance computing in my opinion.

What are the chances that we get a high end radeon on next year?
@Thunderhawk512 күн бұрын
From what I understood, zero. It's the reason I went for 7900 XT just now. XTX was too expensive here anyway. But from what I have heard and read, 8900 XTX got cancelled a long time ago. Don't know if there's even 8900 XT. 8800 XT will likely be their best card with 16GB and 256 bit bus. But nobody really knows right now. But I hope I'm wrong and there will be something more powerful coming later.

nintendo should move back to amd and use APUs from amd and that way they can handle 4k gaming.
@humanbass2 күн бұрын
Lol. Ps5 can barely handle 4k gaming and it is full amd. Switch is a portable system, so being arm is a must. The problem with the Switch is not being amd or whatever, but being a very old 2015 chipset.

Well. This year sucks. My biggest upgrade this year so far was actually going to windows 11 insider buid 24H2 which gave my AMD based benching pcs (A 9950x and a 7950x between 10 and 13%. Unfortunately I seem to have damaged my 14900k I was trying to push it to match the 9950x but the overclock might have done something. It is in a loop with 2x 480mm and 1x 420m rad too. I didnt think I was pushing it either. I like to get one of each leading product but I must admit I will only do it as a replacement if the 14900 is still unstable and I cant do anything about it. Am having a lot of fun with overclocking the 9950x so far though. Hopefully I wont break that too before I am done as I only had it a week.

13:15 *Ahem*, I hope you realize if this is actually true, then the X3D chips will be FAR MORE expensive, because it makes zero sense releasing a CPU that is competitively priced with its non X3D variants, but does everything they can do just as well, if not better.

Because that isnt usually the case. I mainly just build for benchmarking currently have 5 assembled benching pcs which my family and friends can game on. Typically non x3d chips perform far better in many non game benches. A lot of data and charts on that in various channels. This is why there are two skus

Why people go for 8C/16T? Have you seen how many Threads Apps have on Task Manager on Windows? 100s to 1000s, I'd go for 16C/32T, or at least 12C/24T, Large number of Cores & Threats and big L3$ Cache, needed 'coz programs are huge in RAM; hence, if I could afford it I'd go with the X3D CPUs, if I didn't need the extra .x Ghz
@lilsammywasapunkrock2 күн бұрын
Probably because core/thread count has nothing to do with how windows allocates ram? I have an old server that has 16c/32t. It is completely destroyed by my old am4 3700x 8c 16t.

I don't understand any other way that this comment could be taken, considering that is exactly what you said. You said that windows needs more cores and threads "coz programs are huge in ram", as if those two things were directly related.
