Hey Arch, two things: 1. Amazing video was a great watch, thank you very much! :) 2. Please use a higher DPI and scale it down with sensitivity, it is so much nicer. It not only makes your movements smoother but it also slightly improves "reaction" times.
@finn3747 Жыл бұрын
you should also look up the mouse's sensor and check at what dpi it starts 'smoothing' which there may be datasheets online or usually from benchmarks by testers. interpolation between input points is what gives more 'dots', which may negatively affect the accuracy of mouse movement. for example, with the gwtest benchmark for the superlight's hero 25k sensor: while logitech claims it supports 25.6k dpi without smoothing, there is noticeable difference in error when doing a circle drift test starting at 16k dpi, so you could assume that's when the smoothing starts. mouse manufacturers may also modify the firmware made by sensor manufacturers (e.g. pixart) so check for the mouse model itself instead.

When you were talking abt monitors and mentioned how qled were brighter, you reminded me of something a friend of mine who’s getting close to finishing their education to become an ophthalmologist and he told me how their have been multiple studies with statistically significant results showing a correlation between lower brightness settings and faster reactions times. So if you play on a lower brightness the studies have shown that you’re able to react to motion and events on them faster than if they were brighter. So if you want to min/max your reaction time try and play on as low of a brightness as you can to where it isn’t interfering with your visual clarity.

1) SSD's load games faster, period. Which can be an advantage in games with class limits (i.e. you can pick the class you want before others); 2) Water cooling is, if aesthetics or overclocking aren't a priority, more trouble than it's worth, and custom loops are very DiY heavy, plus neither that nor all-in-one solutions are as upgradeable as air cooling is, nor as cheap; 3) Mouse wire weights literally nothing, train hand strength, lol, and it doesn't have a shelf life (lest you launch it into a wall, ofc). My laptop has a wireless mice, and it's very nice to use thanks to that, since by design it's, in essence, a mobile device. But on a pc just having _one more wire_ gives literally zero downsides and none of the micromanagement, it's plugged - it works. 4) For a mouse pad I'd recommend avoiding cloth, it will just soak up all the sweat -coke and tears,- and require cleaning more often. Something solid or water resistant should be good on that front. 5) I will live and die by the num-pad, as will anyone still playing MMO's. 6) Jump from 60hz standard to 100+hz will be _much_ more noticeable than 100+hz to 200+hz, there's diminishing returns insofar as to just how much your mk1 eyeball can realistically perceive. 7) For the chair, and thanks to Josh Strife Hayes for that tip, just like with headphones, don't get anything "gaming". Get a luxury office chair, they're purpose built for the user to sit in them for hours on end, and, no joke, on average they cost about half as much as a gaming chair.

28:11 One thing about these bucket gaming chairs (that look like they've been taken out from a race car). They might look cool but their shape was created so you won't get tossed from side to side while making corners in a car, not for sitting in front of a desk for hours. Your shoulder are tilted forward the entire time, which you do anyway when you hold a steering wheel, but when you sit like this for long periods of time while working/gaming you might get a posture defect. Personally I also just find it more comfortable becouse I got a bit wider shoulders and I really felt the difrence when I got a new chair with flat back support. Also I think all of those gaming chairs are really overpriced.

6:03 SSDs are better at withstanding blunt force than HDD since there is no physical platter or reading head that could get damaged. But in reality, SSDs have a shorter lifespan since the NAND flash(memory chips) actually will wear out with each read and write. So if you buy a midrange SSD and HDD today and use them equally, the HDD is going to last longer than the SSD assuming both are operating in ideal conditions.

Here is a bit more information on each panel type and a few additions CRT: This is the oldest type of display technology and CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube. This information specifically applies to VGA CRTs which were built with computer use in mind although TVs had the same advantages but had limitations since they were meant for TV usage not Computers. The whine of CRTs is also not accounted for because VGA CRT's whine is above the human hearing range so you will not be able to hear it unlike standard consumer, non HD CRTs. It's a dead technology since everyone has moved on to slimmer and more power efficient technologies. So finding new in box sets are extremely rare and might have issues due to their age and capacitors failing. Now it may be old but also has it's advantages. For one, CRTs still have the best response times of any monitor technology. This is thanks to the way the image is drawn. It's basically just a beam of light that scans across the display meaning it's only on screen for a very breif period of time. The only reason why we can still see the image is thanks to the persistence of our vision allowing us to see a very clear image, making it king for motion clarity. Second the don't really have refresh rate limits thanks to well the image being generated by a beam of light. The only limitation is the horizontal scan rate meaning as long as the resolution plus refresh rate didn't go over the limit it could be done. For example a monitor with 93khz scan rate can do 2048x1536 at 60hz but also do 1280x960 at 95hz or even 1024x768 at 120hz as they all fall under the 93khz scan rate. Another advantage is that they do not have fixed pixels, or pixels at all so they really don't have native resolutions. This means they can display 640x480 just like it was the native resolution as they can with 1920x1080. Of course these do have downsides. CRTs also do not have viewing angles so you can look at them at any angle and colors will look the same no matter what. CRTs also have better black levels than some LCDs thanks to them not being lit by a backlight but they can suffer from bloom when many bright things are on screen. If the screen is mostly dark they can achieve close to perfect blacks, assuming it is calibrated correctly For example they are very large and heavy meaning if you don't have the space for them they aren't worth it. Second they are not readily available meaninf anything found is likely used. Third they most likely use VGA with a few using DVI so you'd need a good converter, not scaler, to connect a modern PC to them. Another issue is their power draw which is the worst of the technology here as they consume much more power. They also really only come in 4:3 with a very select rare few that have a wider 16:10 or even 16:9 aspect ratio. This can be an issue for many as generally you want to fill your screen but thanks to the image being produced in an analog manner you can squish it to get the correct aspect ratio you desire with in limitations. Other limitations is size as most VGA CRTs are 20in or under meaning they aren't that big screen size wise. This can be a deal breaker for many as most displays today are between 27in and 32in in size for computers. More downsides is that because the image isn't retained on screen this means that they always flicker and there's nothing to do about this. CRT's flicker at whatever refresh rate they are set to so 60hz refresh rate means the flicker is happening at 60hz. This is unbarable to some people and can also cause eye strain in others. This can be a huge deal breaker for people sensitive to flicker. Also it has the worst brightness here generally with LCD's and OLEDs all being generally brighter than CRTs. TN: Now he didn't really discuss TN here but it is very much still relavent in the world of gaming. TN stands for Twisted Neumatic and it is one of the older LCD types still in use. While TN has pretty much died in the standard consumer world for reasons I'll get into it is very much still the most popular panel type for gamers. Now TN's advantages lie in the fact that it has the third best response times of any of the display types here. This is why it is the most popular in competitive gaming. When you need to see stuff clearly at any cost TN is the type you go for. They also often come with Black Frame Insertion aka BFI which can further increase motion clarity by strobing the backlight at the same refresh rate as the image. This can create a very CRT like motion clarity assuming it is done well. This is why TN rules competitive gaming circles as it's cheap and rules in motion clarity when paired with BFI. Now for it's downsides and why it isn't used outside of gaming displays. TN is the worst type here for colors. TN displays are often duller and have more narrow color range than IPS and VA based technology. This means for media they are often the worst to display because colors don't pop as much as they can. TN displays also have the worst viewing angles here. If you thought VA was bad, TN is worse. Anything but head on completely shifts the colors. Looking at the display from above, below, or from the sides will ruin the image. VA: I have really nothing more to add from what he said. One thing I will add is that VA technology has the best contrast and black levels of the LCD types shown here. This is why they are often used in TVs as it allows for deeper and inkier blacks when compared to TN and IPS panels. IPS: Now for some things he didn't add in is that IPS panels used to have the worst response times here. This is due to the nature of how IPS panels used to be made generally. Now these types are slow IPS and fast IPS. Slow IPS is what most IPS panels used to be before they broke into the gaming industry. These slower IPS panels often do have more stable and less color shifting when it comes to colors. This is why slow IPS is preferrable for creatives. This is shown in Apple's MacBook Pro 14in and 16in. So while both of them technically do refresh at 120hz, the actual response times are very slow, sometimes exceeding the 60hz refresh window. The color performance on these is incredible though. Now fast IPS is what pretty much all gaming monitors that use IPS technology. This panel has the better response times that allow for better motion performance when there are fast moving objects QLED: Not much to add to this category other than the fact hat Q stands for Quantum dot, which is the technology used to get it's better colors. MiniLED: Nothing really to be added here because it's not really a panel type, it just pertains to how the backlight is done for LCDs so they can be VA or IPS based miniLED panels. OLED: A few additions can be added. OLED today is generally WOLED as it uses the standard RGB subpixel layer with a white LED to boost brightness as normal OLED displays are quite dim. OLED actually does have the second best response times here. This means that when it comes to motion clarity OLED is king when it comes to modern displays. A 165hz OLED can look almost as smooth as a 240hz TN or IPS monitor without Black Frame insertion. They also have identical motion performance no matter the refresh rate unlike any LCD based technology. This means that a 240hz OLED equally good for low refresh rate gaming, like 30-60fps, and high refresh gaming, 120fps+. OLED is also the best technology for HDR if that's important to you as they have per pixel dimming meaning that you can have true black next to a pixel blasting at full brightness with no blooming artifacts. The one downside he did not add is that OLED is that OLED's are generally dimmer than their LCD counterparts. This means they aren't really suited for bright rooms as things might be more difficult to see. QD-OLED: This technology was another not discussed. Now it is technically still OLED so it comes with all the advantages and disadvantages that OLED has. QD-OLED combines the technology of QLED but instead of using a LCD based technology it combines OLED with Quantum dots to bring the advantages of both technologies together. QD-OLED is also said to be more burn in resistant than standard OLED but this has not been sufficiently tested to be certain. QD-OLED also boasts better brightness than normal OLED displays. This means that they are easier to use in brightly lit rooms.

I wish I watched this when I was 16. I ended up spending $4000 on a PC build for my game Rust. Issue was I couldn’t hardwire my computer, so my quality just got capped out really early. I thought it’d make me better, but the thing that actually improved my skill was how many times I failed. In Rust, there are several base foundations. One of the most common “the circle base” is 6 triangles, and then making rings around that hexagon. What I learned is that deception is one of the best tools in that game. One of my favorite base builds was a 3 layer ring, but then take the center out and you could add 3 hexagons on the inside of the outside ring. This caused some walls to overlap, but more layers are better because you then have more armor to your tool cupboard (allows you to build in that area, so essential for a raid) Everyone on the outside sees a typical 3 ring base; usually 3 walls to get through. Anyone looking for big look would probably pass. Anyone looking for a medium loot would raid. What they didn’t realize was it was actually 6 walls to tool cupboard, and at that, you have a 1/3 chance of getting it. So many times I’d wake up see someone go through 2 walls and realize this was not a normal base. Thus they stopped. They didn’t have enough explosives to even get close to my loot. That was one of my most complicated builds, and honestly was fun to see people waste so much explosives just for nothing. I learned real fast that my PC helps, but my experience was much more valuable.

this is a great guide that must have taken forever to create. alas, covering so many topics there is bound to be stuff you can't quite cover, or a mistake or two, and I personally have a few nitpicks about the hardware section specifically. for example, you talk about generally what most the parts do, which is good, but you don't give recommendations for internals but you did with externals, and your externals were targeted at people with a unlimited budget (almost nobody I know plays on 4k or on a monitor greater than 27 inches, as well as 1080p/1440p panels being perfectly fine for competitive gaming, 120/144hz being the starting point of diminishing returns, response time of under 5ms is unnoticeably different from

I know fps games are what your channel more focuses on but I just wanted to put my thoughts out there anyways.

14:23 Nuh uh! When I set my polling rate on my new mouse to 8000 I see really high cpu usage on my old processor (i5 7400) so you might also need better hardware for all the other accesories. Besides that, great video man

The solution to the monitor size have been invented 30 years ago. It's called an FOV slider. The only reason people still circle-jerk that topic is because Valve, Riot and EA are too afraid to put it in their games. "Full bright enemies would kill the game." 2 years later they introduce enemy contrast option. "Letting people change FOV would add an unfair advantage." Yeah, as if. It didn't hurt Quake or TF2. Not to mention, most of CSGO pros would just put it at 60 right away. At least that way Valve and Riot won't encourage bad posture for millions of people.

06:46 but this isn't entirely true. If you get a lower end motherboard you might be restricted in ram clock speeds, ram capacity, how many sata devices you can have plugged in, etc. It's definitely not an important part for pure performance gains like a gpu or cpu would be. Unless you have elaborated on this further into the video (resuming watching after this) then you are misrepresenting the motherboard.

Thank you for making such a comprehensive guide on computer parts and gaming setup! I have been a console gamer since forever, so each time a pc person mentions something about _CU (insert letter), or their computer part, or a new (insert random numbers)(insert letter) something-something video card I just shrug and look for my 'coming out on console" sign. Even after this video I will shrug at all of these, because frankly, trying to figure out computer setup is still daunting and confusing, but I now do understand it better, so thanks for that) I`ve had some renovations done to my room recently, and really the best advice for external hardware I can give (as a console player and just a from-home-working person I can tell some mind about these) - Test Everything Yourself. I really wanted a comfy computer chair for some years, and finally decided to get one - that was almost a life-changing decision, really. Comfy chair will MUCH improve your quality of life, please consider getting one for yourself if gaming is your hobby, or you spend a lot of time working in front of a computer. I spent a couple of days visiting different showrooms or furniture malls to try out different chairs - so I can tell you that you will probably be able to find some comfy options which are not as pricey, or even second-hand. Though, personally I decided to not take that option as I had no guarantee about the quality or brand of chairs I found, so I resorted to spending more on a new one. Gaming setup shops will probably have a showroom so go and test those chairs yourself - your butt and spine should be the ones to pick the chair, and not you eyes on the website. Gaming chairs all look really similar to one another, but after trying out different ones I can say that all of them feel different, and I can`t stress it enough - pick out a chair with your butt and spine, only a few chosen chairs out of all of them will feel comfortable for you. The 'DYI' desk is a great advice too! Measure out your preferred heigh and width of a desk, then just buy a plank of wood of needed size, paint it with some preserving paint and drill legs onto it. Prefferably have a person who knows how to do any of this nearby. Also, this will be definitely cheaper than any existing desk options, and it will be MUCH cheaper than the desks of the same size. Plus you can paint and customise it however you want it to, so get creative. tldr: Good desk and chair setup will improve your life So Much, even if you`re a console gamer or just work from home. The best desk is the custom plank of wood on legs you can make for yourself, and please choose your chair by actually sitting on them in a showroom. p.s. I will forever use wired mouse and headphones, they just feel better to me

DON'T CHEAP OUT ON THE CHAIR, I BEG OF YOU. DO NOT BUY GAMING CHAIRS, INVEST IN AN ERGONOMIC CHAIR OR ANY OTHER CHAIR, IT MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE. I BEG OF YOU.

I did this after years of only having cheapo chairs that would either fall apart after 1-3 years of use or would cause massive bottom and back pain. I now have a Haworth Fern which costed me over $1000 (Australian so like 600-700 USD give or take) and it has been one of the best investments I've ever made. I no longer have lower back/bum pain lol and can sit in it for many hours without issues. I know it's a lot of money to spend on a chair for most people and it was for me too but if people really value their health then listen to the commenter above me and do yourself a favour and get a good ergonomic office chair. Your back/butt will thank you.

This is honestly the absolute best video I have ever seen on how to get better and I will definitely share it to my friend who always plays duo games with me. Tbh, having tried fancy dacs, you don't need anything more than a dongle dac. Honestly I think 99% of people would be more than happy with an e10k as their dac/amp. Cleaner than onboard, a tasteful bass boost if you like. As for headphones, if you want ultra cheap and actually good sound quality there's the koss ur40, only issue is comfort.

In my 900+ hours of Apex, I never grinded ranked for any self gratification because it just sucks the fun and life out of it. Having no burden to bear while seeing you improve either via stats or noticing you win fights you previously lost is a way better feeling than hitting an artificial rank that shows little about your actual skill

Amazing video! From the editing to the pacing and specially the visual style!! Only thing I can correct is that headphones usually don’t have a DAC inside them unless they’re wireless, meaning they’re driven by on-board audio, which generally speaking is simply not good, which is why most headphones sound better when connected to a dedicated amp & DAC or DAC/amp combo, specially those that require MOOORE POWAAH!!!, as you mentioned. That btw I really enjoyed dedicating a part of the video to the audio aspect of hardware and peripherals, being an audio enjoyer myself.

100/10 video. Also, I love how out of all the other multiplayer games that could be used, you've got the singleplayer TABS playing in the background. But then again, maybe they are less relevant fp shooters.
