It wasn’t only Queen who realized they had been sensational. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star. “Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.”

Apparently Freddie responded to Elton's comment - referring to some outlandish clothes Elton was wearing: I know, darling, and you looked like the bloody Queen of England in that outfit."

Great reaction. Very much appreciated.😊 I am a biracial female who grew up on rap and hip-hop music in the 90s-2000s. Never did I think in a million years that I would fall in love with a deceased rockstar decades after his death. ( I used to despise rock music 😞) I went to see the movie Bohemian Rhapsody back in 2018 on a whim and I walked out the door a changed person. I was familiar with a couple of their top hits but nothing else. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you were jealous of Freddie because he has a sense of freedom. That is exactly what I felt when I watched that movie and fell in love with Freddie and Queen that day. He exudes a sense of someone who lives his life on his terms and is enjoying it to its fullest! Not only that but Freddie and the entire band put on master class live performances. Excellent musicianship! so you think some of us may have watched this performance 30 to 40 times? Would you believe I have watched it in the thousands. When I came home from the movies that day I googled this performance and have watched it countless times every single day since 2018. Not only the original version but I have watched hundreds and hundreds of reaction videos like yours and I love and appreciate each and everyone of them. I hope you enjoy more additional Queen performances. I would highly recommend their Queen Wembley 86 concert. It is a full length concert and it is every bit as good as their live aid performance in my opinion.😊

There are only two types of music... stuff you like and stuff you don't. If you 'won't listen to music because of the genre' then you are only limiting yourself. Don't stunt yourself for how others will view you. It's just silly and the only one it hurts will be you.

Everyone thinks they don’t know any Queen songs! Enjoyed your reaction! Queen were a very tight, professional band. They rehearsed this set and got it to exactly twenty minutes. Brian May said the acoustics were so bad that they couldn’t hear one another and you can see lots of visual cues between them. Freddie’s voice was showing the strain as the set progressed but you can also hear Roger’s voice getting louder and louder to compensate and support him. Four brilliant musicians at the top of their game. Did you notice Brian switched guitars three times during Crazy Little thing called love?

@anne-mariesindruprix47923 күн бұрын
I can fill in who wrote the songs: BR was written by Freddie, Radio G-G by the drummer, Roger Taylor, Hammer to fall by the guitarist Brian May, Crazy little thing called love by Freddie, WWRY by Brian and We are the champions by Freddie. John Deacon, the bassist, wrote some of the most popular songs - but none of them "fit" this occasion.
@sherryheim55043 күн бұрын
This is an epic set from this concert. Nobody does a stadium like Queen. Set List: Bohemian Rhapsody (Mercury), Radio Ga-Ga (Taylor), Ay-Oh (call and response), Hammer To Fall (May), Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Mercury), We Will Rock You (May), We Are The Champions (Mercury). Brian May plays three different guitars on Crazy Little Thing Called Love to get that old time rock and roll sound. Accoustic, Telecaster and his own (built by him and his dad when he was a teen from junk laying around the house)Red Special. The band rehearsed for days making sure that their set was within the time limits. They had a lot of song choices but this is what they could fit into the set time. Some are sped up a bit some shortened a bit, but they got it done and they stole the show. Thank you for your reaction.

Thanks Enri, so glad you enjoyed this performance (London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, PA) so much... yes, this two-venue concert was satellite broadcast to 40% of the world's population at the time, 1.9 billion people... BUT... you missed the best part... Queen was asked to do an encore to close the London half of the concert... they came back and did a short song called "Is This The World We Created?"... the highlight of the performance... if you download from the Live Aid channel, they usually won't block it... please try to watch it... well worth the time... also, check out Freddie's very beginning BEFORE Queen, he recorded two songs under the name of "Larry Lurex"... (he never wanted to be known for singing covers of anybody else's songs, thus the psuedonym)... "Goin' Back" and "I Can Hear Music".... TY again for playing Queen's music, the BEST in the world... blessings.

There's an old showbiz adage that says always leave them wanting more. There have been a very few entertainment acts in history that have truly embodied that mantra like Freddie and his fellow Queen co-conspirators. The first two tracks on the Queen album "News of the World" (the one with the giant automaton holding the band members in one of his hands) are, in this order, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" and to my knowledge from the release of that album until Freddie's last concert performance with Queen every Queen concert leaves them wanting more by ended with those two songs in that same order.

"About ten years ago, I knew three chords on the guitar. Now, in 1982, I know three chords on the guitar." ~ Freddie. (But he managed to write "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" with those three chords which was Queen's first #1 hit in the US.) We Will Rock You was shortened. It actually has three verses. Queen rehearsed diligently for Live Aid taking great care to build a 20 minute set list that would immediately and sustainably engage the audience. There were a few other notable performances but many fell flat by not bringing energy and zeal to the stage. I can guarantee that anyone watching across the globe participated in "AY-OH" through their tele sets. Thanks.

Queen were so professional that they rented out a theatre for a week to rehearse and had their people go out and purchase a bunch of large clocks that they positioned around the stage so that they could time everything out. BORAP and We Will Rock You were shortened and the other songs had the tempo speed up to fit within the time limit. I read somewhere that Brian and Roger weren’t sure that Freddie should do his Call & Response since this was not a Queen audience! But Freddie being Freddie knew how to control a crowd!

He continued to make music and videos until months before his death from Aids He had to wear layers of clothes to keep warm even thosr these hurt his skin,at that point he gad lost half his foot and standing was painful. After finishing what they thought was the last album Freddie continued to write songs as did the others. Normally Freddie would do yhe words after the music was written, but he couldn't wsit he did recording ofthe words on a drum machine,doing each line 3 times and he told the band to finish off. He knew he would be gone by then. Freddie lost his sight and became bed ridden, knowing he would never record again he stopped his meds and prepared to die. So brave x

I was there that day in 1985 as a 15yr old pop music lover... I left that day as a convert to rock music, thanks mainly to Freddie & Co... You need to remember that this was NOT a Queen concert or even a Queen audience, in fact they were a last minute addition to the line up. That said for 22 minutes that afternoon Freddie had close to 73,000 people in Wembley and almost 1.9 billion watching on TV globally eating out of the palm of his hand. David Bowie followed Queen that day and was in the wings when they came off stage and apparently said to Freddie something along the lines of "thanks you b'stard, how the f*** am I supposed to follow that?"😂😂 I was lucky enough to see them again the following year on their "Magic" tour, Status Quo opened for them (BONUS) and Queen certainly didn't disappoint. I'm now a 55yr old woman who's been to 300ish live rock concerts over the years, everyone from Guns n Roses to ACDC to Uriah Heep, Meatloaf, Status Quo, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi (48 times 😂), The Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp and Joe Perry) to H.I.M and the 69 Eyes.. but that 22 minutes right there is still by far the best 22 minutes of live greatness EVER! And one show that has never left my memory! God bless you Freddie and Thank you for the music.. Rest In Paradise you legend 👑👑👑

Excellent reaction Enri! Yay! I just subscribed today! I remember watching this on television when it was broadcasted in 1985! How many in that crowd? Back then the stadium could hold 72,000 people but then there was J.F. Kennedy also doing Live Aid simultaneously in Philadelphia and they had 89,000 people watching there too, it was estimated at 1.5 billion people watched Live Aid in 1985! Song Set: Song 1. Bohemian Rhapsody Song 2. Radio Ga Ga written by drummer Roger Taylor Song 3. Hammer to Fall written by lead guitarist Brian May Song 4. Crazy Little Thing called Love written by Freddie as his tribute to Elvis in 1979 Song 5 We Will Rock You written by Brian May Song 6. We Are the Champions. Written by Freddie Mercury Yes, this is considered Classic Rock now. Right? You knew some of those songs and didn't know it was Queen! No judgement Enri, just know we openly welcome you to the world of Queen! You did wonderfully for this reaction, you had to pause for the right reasons that's fine, we are just glad you had the same experience we had when we watched it on television! Enri, you may want to react to Radio Ga Ga, inspired by Roger Taylor's then toddler at the time, to write that song, Hammer to Fall is another good one you may like to watch in full, the song "Another one Bites the Dust" written by John Deacon, the song "Killer Queen", and "Seven Seas of Rye", and "Keep Yourself Alive, and "I Want it All", and "One Vision" the extended version, oh and after that then treat yourself to watch "Queen - One Vision (Making Of) (High Quality) - from the Chinwonder2 channel, you may have to pause and return back to what you already heard on that too just like you did with Live Aid. That one is a documentary you may be interested in watching them inside the studio during various days of recording the song, trying to get the lyrics to sound right, and trying to get the right sound, and trying to put it all together, it will show them having some fun at the same time, so yeah, give a reaction! I enjoyed your video reactions and looking forward to more! Peace. ☮

Freddie had a throat infection that day and was advised by doctors not to perform...and he STILL nailed it!! Queen stole the entire show!! And as for the guitarist...not bad for a home made instrument!! Don't forget another band had to follow this and go on after them!!

I very much enjoyed your reaction. I would love to see more reactions to Queen. Another good song is Kind of Magic live at Wembley. The list is endless of Queen bangers!

I appreciate someone who has done some research in order to appreciate the performance. The song you asked about was 'Radio Gaga', from which Lady Gaga is said to have taken her stage name. They had rehearsed for a week to get that performance down to the second. Professionals to the bone.

Freddie could really play guitar - he only knew 3 chords, but that's all he needed for this song!! Freddie wrote this in 10mins in the bath as a tribute to Elvis!!

Now you know. Now you get it. There's so much to say about all the members of Queen, but this is probably a distillation of everything that made them great. They weren't just amazingly talented, the were ultimate professionals. Unlike almost every other performer at Live Aid, Queen rehearsed for a week, with huge clocks around them, to hone their set to exactly 20 minutes. You were right on the mark when you said that it seemed that Freddie felt free onstage. Performing, connecting with the audience, allowed Freddie to be unapologetically himself. Please react to more Queen, and also other 1960s-1970s rock. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

Radio Ga Ga....Hammer to fall.....Crazy little thing called Love....We will rock you & finally We are the Champions! Evrry band had 20mins to perform. There was a clock counting down & if they didnt finish on time their sound would be cut. Never happened.....ultimate professionals....no auto tune just pure talent. Only band who could sound better live! Freddie's voice.....Perfection ❤
