I used to run my turntable down to 16 RPM and listen to those breaks at half speed, thinking I might be able to learn how to do what he’s doing… It just made it worse… The closer I looked, the more impossible it became … same thing happened when I was trying to figure out what Carl Palmer was doing on Karn Evil 9… it’s like fractals, or computer code for a recursive function…

@@CockneyRebel1979 Yep. It was definitely peculiar and they weren't playing it on AM radio, but are you familiar with Paul McCartney's Uncle Albert Admiral Halsey? I am not sure it was on AM radio, but it was a HUGE hit and got a LOT of airplay.

A half a century later and still AMAZING. I was around 10 or 11 when this song got released in the U.S. It was one of those tunes that got a lot of airplay on top 40 and deservedly so. You just couldn't wait until your favorite radio station played it again even though they played it over and over. This song is one of many examples why the early 70's were the BEST era of top 40.

Bands are still bands, in-fact seeing as this generation has stood on the shoulders of giants and learned the masterpieces of your generation as their beginner practice songs, as well as being in my mid 30s and having first hand experience of performing in bands for over half my life, playing at professional levels that would dwarf most musicians from your generation back in the day. I can safely say that you have no idea what you are taking about.

One of the best and most beautiful drum solos ever recorded is on the focus album moving waves. Pierre Van der linden executes the solo with such warmth and soul and sheer musical talent that it simply inspires.

I love this song since the first time I heard it back in the early 70's ! I still crank it up when ever it comes on the radio IMO it was one of the first Heavy Metal guitar shredding leads, I ever heard. and it still stands up to this day. A testament to this awesome bands incredible musicality. I 'm so happy this video showed up on my youtube

As much as I liked hearing it on the radio in the 70's, it's even better to see it. There's a clip on KZbin (Midnight Special I think) with a lot of close-ups of Thijs. To see his wild expressions it shows how much fun he was having. Not to mention watching Jan Ackerman shred. I do agree with many posters that it's a shame most only know this song. Personally, Sylvia has always been my favorite. It was true with many prog bands: the casual fan knows only a song or two, but the true fan knows the whole breadth of the band. Look at Yes-many fans think they started with Going For The One (although they'd probably recognize Roundabout) And I shed a tear for Genesis fans that only know the pop Invisible Touch era, and have never heard Supper's Ready or Carpet Crawlers.

@ Roberto and positive others: I fully agree! Focus had pivotal influence on my and my co-musicians' evolution in the 1970s. In Sweden, we miss Björn J:son Lindh [dead 2013; who's played, for example, with Janne Schaffer and Chess' (Ulvaeus & Andersson) One night in Bangkok]. So happy to see Thijs live and thriving!

Absolutely fantastic !! I was hoping to see them live at The Northern Kin Festival this year but as I won't be able to make it this has more than made up for it. My favourite piece of rock music ever written . Loved it on original release in early 1970s and love it still. It's on my motivation playlist and is played every day , sometimes more than once 😀😀. Thanks for sharing this.

Lived in cologne for half a year in 2005, found a guy from Tennessee playing on the street and took lessons from him. Taught me this tune. 👍👍

I was time traveling and jumped to a live performance with this band back in 72, the guitarist was cool, he had licks way ahead of popular music then. Wish i could go back, but i have to use the power for good now. Great to see we both made it from 72, maybe I'll be back again, good luck guys, and it was a great show again, 5 decades, so fresh in my mind, still have a vox vibro pedal from the show, sorry i needed it for something in another time.

Superb. Brings back memories of listening to Focus in the mid 1970s on Radio Luxembourg via an overdriven ancient 'tube' radio set. I could ignore sparking across the electrodes of the speaker drive device because spares from scrap TVs were free and easy to get

I was lucky enough to see these guys in their prime, 1974 up in Michigan...Suzi Quattro was first, then Focus, then the headliner, Aerosmith. What a concert that was! I was 17 at the time. Tickets were about $7.00

Great to hear focus again, I grew up with these guys, tremendous guitar playing, obviously Jan was a main player but it sounds like the new guitarist is kickin ass. If your bringing the past into the future we need young blood to do this. It just makes me smile to hear those old focus classics and tasty guitar playing.
