This episode really is sad and rough to watch especially seeing Terry Gordy being a shell of himself. On the episode, when Mick said that he was signing autographs and saw Terry at that time alone, he felt guilty that no one remembers him and Mick really wanted to ask his fans to go to Terry as he is a wrestling legend than he is.

One of my relatives was only 45 when he passed away from a heart attack shoveling snow and the thing was it happened so suddenly or so the family legend goes. Don't know if he was doing drugs or it was heredity, either way, in the end, we should all be lucky to see the next and everyday we can especially when we hit our forties where everything we didn't do when we were young catches up with us.

I live in Soddy. I met Gordy when he came into a photolab where I worked probably in the late 80s. He was so soft spoken and talked to me for a few minutes. I know several people, who went to school with him. From what I have heard, he was a sweetheart, but if he got mad ...RUN! I also saw he & Hayes wrestling in the old Bledsoe Co. High School about 78 or 79, when they worked for Gulas. This was before they teamed up with Roberts and became the Freebirds.

Corny isn't kidding about the Pedicino Superstars of Wrestling Bloc. I was in Athens, GA, going to school for 6 months, and watched it, weekly. At that point, they had Crockett (Worldwide, I believe), WWF, Memphis (calling themselves Championship Wrestling Association), Continental Wrestling Federation (when Eddie Gilbert was booking), USA-Knoxville and Puerto Rico. I believe they were also showing Southern Championship Wrestling, possibly as a stand alone, possibly as part of the bloc (memory is hazy but I saw some of it, then). The wrestling was diverse enough to hold you interest and then you had the host segments, with Joe and Bonnie Blackstone, which were fubn, especially if they had Randy Rose or Ken Timbs on there, to antagonize the hosts.

Jim talking about watching six hours of wrestling on vhs each Saturday brings back memories. I was blessed due to where I lived and the early days of syndication that I was able to enjoy this Saturday schedule from 8:05 am until 7:05 pm: 8 am Superstation (one hour show mainly repeats/highlights) 9 am Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling (syndicated) 10am World Class Championship Wrestling (syndicated) 11am - 12:30 pm Championship Wrestling from Memphis (live show on my local NBC affiliate) 12:30 pm Mid South Championship Wrestling (syndicated) 4 pm Championship Wrestling from Florida (satellite syndicated) 5:05 pm World Championship Wrestling It couldn't get better than this for me. I had a small break from 1:30 pm until 4 pm lol. This was around the 1983-1986ish time frame. True story- the Memphis show had such high ratings that the channels showing the Mid Atlantic, World Class and Mid South programs scheduled them around the Memphis show as to not complete and to piggy back off it's popularity.

Terry already got a massive shot across the bow three years before the overdose on the flight. That situation was so serious, All Japan was already preparing a statement to the press to announce his death when he came out of that coma. If that's not enough to make you rethink your choices and take steps to change a few things in your life, the eventual outcome is just a matter of time. Terry didn't change anything, whether he couldn't or didn't want to - who knows... It was just sad and unnecessary either way, really.

i think it has to do with that he started wrestling so young and became really good from a young age! The fact that he was so good and got so much work at a young age and was featured as a star from a very young age! It had an negative effect on him. Plus back in that time no one cared or bothered with having a good health mentally/physically so Terry was doomed from the day he broke through the business!

My grandpa, who adopted my dad, was from the Cayman Islands, and he immigrated to the US when he was in his 20s because of work. He lived in Florida since the 1950s and was HUGE into wrestling until his passing in 2005. He was a tape trader, he had cable and he never missed any shows. He had a decently thick accent and it was always difficult when I was little to understand him saying Terry Gordy's name. We'd watch hours and hours of tapes, he'd send me tapes here in Houston. My dad hated wrestling because he was smart, but my grandpa believed it and loved it. If grandpa's TV wasn't on old school cspan so he could watch all his investments, it was on wrestling. I also have family in Alexandria and Ponchatoula Louisiana. I had a great wrestling upbringing. I try to explain to my now 23yo son how great wrestling used to be. He just doesn't understand.

this was one of the sadder ones just because his dark side was so self-inflicted and so debilitating, which contrasted with how larger than life, talented, and good of a human made it even more tragic. they did do a good job of balancing wrestling biz with personal so I definitely felt like i learned a lot more about him. I always think if things would've been significantly different if he didn't start wrestling til 18. more maturity, more brain development so as not to potentially be as impacted by the drugs and alcohol, etc

Haven't seen the dark side, or much of this clip, but they both definitely cover the airplane incident. That was mid-93ish I'm thinking, and he was never the same in the ring after that. He worked quite a bit from 93 until his death in 2001 (slowing down a lot in his final years) One tour for All Japan in '94, but that was the last time they used him, Smoky Mountain (I'm sure Jim talks about that here), ECW (a great showing vs. Raven, "Battle of the Bam Bams", Eliminators vs. Gordy/Dreamer, vs. Brian Lee, etc.), IWA-Japan (King of the Death matches vs. Foley, a number of tours from 95 until his final match in 2001), WAR towards the end, and some indies. He was only 33 in 1993 too and 40 when he passed. Really tragic stuff

Had nothing to do with vest roman sucked on the mic and in the ring. Roman is a guy who does best as a heel in a faction

I personally thought it was because he was a pretty bland baby face with corny, pre written line and had matches that were pretty basic and the same thing every match. He’s been able to get over as a heel cause it seems like he’s gotten more comfortable on the mic and seems to be allowed to show a bit more personality. Even if people are tired of him always in the main events at least it’s easier to hate him since he’s a heel

As a kid growing up in the 80’s in south Florida, who went to the Ft Hesterly armory every Tuesday, I remember the Freebirds being there, I don’t remember if it’s before or after their time in Dallas, but there was gonna be a 10 man battle royal for $10,000.00 and Gordy saying that’s a lot of Copenhagen…

Imagine a guy like Terry Gordy, a guy they called "Bam Bam" doing what he was told, when told he was doing too much. Think about any of the dozens of shrimps who won't take advice over the last ten years. Think about a legit tough guy like Terry Gordy suffering a career altering injury through little to no fault of his own and thing of these guys breaking their legs, concussing themselves, missing tables, playing on escalators and all that other stupid shit.

There's so much here, and i hope y'all will reply.1. Did anyone ever explain the real reason the uwf had terry relinquish the title to OMG? Why not drop it to a babyface or to gang in an actual match? 2. The wrestlers most often named as great workers by their peers are gordy, eaton, windham, and brad armstrong. Who belongs in the 5th spot? 3. I LOVED the way gordy would shoot his left hand in the air before punching with his right. 4.gordy could wrestle or even outwrestle the best. Watch his match against rick martel for the AWA title.
