I have to say. I was at Shotgun Saturday Night in Penn Station there in Manhatten and I to this day say that it was the most entertaining live wrestling event I ever been to. Who came up with the idea to hold a wrestling event in the main train station in NYC at 11pm/12am is a genius. Why did it work? Anybody who doesn't understand Manhatten. Penn Station is right under MSG. Trains come into Penn Station from Long Island, Upstate NY. Pennsylvania and NJ. So to get people to come to this event. They hop on a train and they are there. The convenience was the best part. You never have to leave the station, hail a cab, take a subway. Off the train and you are there. Couple that with the fact that people like me always see Penn Station as a crowded race to make your train. It was different to see this hectic place turned into a battle ground of sorts. Something we will never see again. I give credit for that idea.

@PhinneusPrune2 жыл бұрын
@@joen8529 I was there for that escalator Tomb Stone. I am not just saying this. It was absolutely a very fun live event. As crowded as it looked on TV. You were able to follow the action. So there were no missed moments. It was more of a personal show because whether or not the wrestlers were on the other side of the venue. They always made there way around to where we were. If they didn't. It wasn't difficult to get to the action. It was like an Indy event where they spent a lot of money on production. I guess for the wrestlers, writers and production. NOTE: Jake Roberts has to lose every f-n week in unter 2 minutes 😆 - Jake Roberts has to "wear" his snake all the time - Fans decide which move the wrestlers have to perform (imagine a 450° by Yokozuna or the Earthquake Splash by Zack Gowen) - a match between some strip club bouncers - speeking of strip club: we bring back the girls for the perverted fans - a bunch of "stars" - Russo on commentary - Yokozuna on a scale with a bunch of jobbers on the other side to equal the weight EVERY WEEK - the light in the arena/bar is off and the fans have to light the ring with flashlights - Lawler anounces news from the week and put some fake wrestling twists in them - a MEN-IN-BLACK-security that looks like a swat team - "hidden camera" skits with wrestlers wo tried to get into a strip club - the wifes of the wrestlers will have a match insted of the wrestlers themself (i smell a 5* classic) - female refs with huge knockers - a bear as a heel mascot who got bullied by every wrestler - the wifes/gfs of the wrestlers has to strip each time their man took a fall - a talent show where the fans can imitate the wrestlers - every fan who's dressed as a king gets an audience with Lawler - Todd Pettengill interwies the craziest guy in the arena/bar EVERY WEEK - a talk show with Sunny. Only topic: Sunny - Whacky Bob Backlund reviews the news of the week - JR interwies a heel - an obstacle course for the fans and wrestlers inside the arena/bar (like in Takeshi's castle) That show would be called RUSSOMANIA 🤣

Sure, Russo and Ferrara had nothing to do with tremendeous success of the company. Give me a break, now I am obliged to "laugh in your face". As soon as Russo left ratings started to go down and they were going down to the year of 2022. If McMahon is such a genius, what's up with the last 5 years of WWE programing which is amongst the worst in wrestling history? Oh, he lost his Russos and Gewirtzs and was able to push his and Prichard's amazing content. Let's talk about Cornette's achievements as a booker as well. Russo cost him his job at two ocasions in two organizations, that's why Jim hates Vince so much to this day.

@@micharogowski9538cornette booked more money more success than Russo. The thing about Russo is OCCASIONALLY his ideas were gems but he produced so much SHITE. As for Attitude working, with the talent they had you could forgive a lot of shit. People forget how many bad matches happened bad angles.

In other words, McMahon thought it would be cool to have wrestling in bars. And then "took wrestling out of the small bars!" It all makes sense now!

As the list goes on, it makes the "Shotgun Toughguy" badge idea sound genius, though it'd still need some tweaking to work decently (like not having every match be a gimmick match). I'm shocked "Todd Budweiser" didn't become a gimmick under Russo.😂

If I knew Todd Pettengill in real life, I would feel obligated to call him "Todd Budweiser" at every opportunity.

I don't understand how people could hate on Russo when he helped with the hottest era of wrestling ever. Even the Rock and Shawn Michaels publicly said so.

Because he parlayed a 2 year run as an assistant coach to ruin everything he touched afterward. WCW, TNA, Jarrett's christian fed and apparently USA if what he says about being on creative the last few years is true.

Apart from "I have no idea what Russo is saying" he doesn't talk about her much. The only other story is he gave her a baggie filled with the hair of Shawn Michaels that Bret Hart ripped out.

I think they should revive Shotgun Saturday Night as a show for all 3 brands to wrestle on, a sort of SmackDown vs Raw vs NXT card of matches

I was at the first Shotgun. The Club was called Mirage at the time. It used to be called Club Exit, then later it was Carbon and now it's called Terminal 5. That was my first live wrestling event since I went to the Manhattan Center Raws in 93 & 94. It was a lot of fun and we got closer to wrestlers than usual. Jim was really nice to me and my friend who he knew from the other events. Highlight was when Terri Runnels "flashed" us all. I couldn't see the pasties, but I was OK with what I did see. 👀
