“To me, Lou stood out. The real deal! Something important to American music and to ALL MUSIC! I miss him and his dog.” - Keith Richards
In honor of Lou Reed’s birthday, Keith Richards has recorded a cover of “I’m Waiting for the Man.” The digital single & music video are out now and featured on the upcoming album The Power of the Heart: A Tribute to Lou Reed, which includes newly recorded covers from Keith Richards, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Rufus Wainwright, Lucinda Williams, Maxim Ludwig & Angel Olsen, Rickie Lee Jones, Mary Gauthier, Bobby Rush, Automatic, The Afghan Whigs, and Rosanne Cash. This special collection will be released by Light in the Attic Records and available on Vinyl & CD at fine independent record shops worldwide on Record Store Day (April 20th).
It goes without saying that the legendary Lou Reed was a true rock ’n’ roll pioneer. From The Velvet Underground’s debut in 1967 all the way through the end of his days, Reed sang truth from his heart. He lived life to the limit-and then some. The Power of the Heart is a tribute to Reed’s freedom of expression with covers spanning his groundbreaking years with the Velvets into his majestic solo career. Each track is a glorious extension of the Rock ’n’ Roll Animal’s soul, ever adventurous and avant-garde.

Jagger just turned 80! Same with Keith Richard’s (and Ronnie Wood is 76). Best Rock band in history IMO. Their peak performance is Beggars Banquet Album through Exile on Main Street. Love their edge and swagger. And yes, for me Mick Jagger is the best front man. Are they the best musicians ever, no (might have to go with Rush if that’s the only criteria), but they just epitomize rock to me and they have proven their versatility by still being relevant 60 years after they started.

I was lucky and fortunate to have seen the Stones twice, once in Wembley Stadium in 1990 and I saw them again in 2018 at Cardiff Principality Stadium in Wales and believe it or not they were much better in 2018 then what they were in 1990 , I think Keith and Ronnie were more with it in 2018, I also was lucky and fortunate to have seen Lou Reed 3 times in London and also Velvet Underground when they reformed for a one off tour of Europe and they played twice at Wembley Arena London in 1993 and for me although I’ve seen quite a few legends over the years but the Velvet’s by was the best gig I’ve ever been to probably because they were my favourite band but I also love listening to the Stones but this cover of the Velvet Underground by Keith is just a brilliant cover without a doubt buddy, I’m just coming up to being 62 years old and the artists of today just can’t do like these guys from back in the day apart from the odd one or two that is, and the Stones even at their age are still selling out stadiums, that says everything about the Rolling Stones, they don’t do arena’s they do stadiums buddy.

Billy Angelino here just want to say,wow and thank you so much everyone for the likes on my comment. I get a lot of likes on every different video, be it music, sports, movies, whatever, basically because, if you knew me like a lot of people here in Winter Haven, Fl, you would know that I am always honest, sincere, trustworthy, don't bullshit or hurt anyone. Most of all, I see a lot of replies where people will down grade or really give a person a super hard time or out right nasty to someone else who had a different opinion about a video. Remember folks, that is exactly what it is, an opinion, and I respect everyone who comments, even if I don't agree, I will nicely say, I understand how you feel, but just my opinion, and we all are entitled to one, and mine is, then I give it. Great things I remember as a child, from a great teacher, my dad, who I lost last year, I move forward like he made me promise I would, but every morning I awake, I miss him more than the day before. Also folks, I am no preacher or someone special, or better than anyone else, but in this crazy world today, as well as since I was a child, I always try to talk to people in public, have nice conversations, listen, learn and laugh. Do you know how many times, after a day out, that on the drive home, I realized the smile on my face, ear to ear, just happy as hell because of good conversation and being nice to my fellow man. It's a great feeling for me because I see so many miserable people in public, from out right rude to just mean, and it's really sad, because life is great and wonderful and so much to do, places to go and see, people to meet, etc..., but in the blink of an eye, your world changes, some times, for the worse. The day my dad was diagnosed with stage four cancer, nothing could be done, October, before my fifty nineth birthday, doctor said, thank God if he sees Christmas. Guess what folks, he passed away at three am, the day before Christmas Eve. You can imagine what I think of one of my favorite times of the year, my entire life, why?, because of what a joy mom and dad made it for all of us kids, this year, the family had a great time, but I took my beloved little girls, my dogs, to Vero Beach and stayed for a few days, alone and didn't give Christmas a thought. Take care everyone and I love you all

I'm about five miles or so south of Keith Richards' house as I am posting this. I remember listening to The Stones' "12X5" album with my late older brother when I was 7 years old (1964). 28 years later, my brother was invited over to Keith Richards' house-along with his guitar. He once brought our Mom to a birthday party at Keith's house; which reminds me: Do you remember this line from "Mother's Little Helper"-'what a drag it is getting old'? She's now 89, and I'm 67. Hmm.

Keith is an inspiration for all seniors that life doesn't have to end at 80 or even the 90's. I am 80, writing my best songs ever and putting those songs to work with Nashville publishers to pitch to major labels. The hardest part is getting the labels to admit to the quality of the new songs and giving them a chance. There is always room for a great song and then watch your audience grow.

Sorry about this, but what is the "real stuff" you speak of? what do you want, a cover version? Keith doing a Lou Reed song, in his own way, is an act of love, respect and honor. If you look at the video, Richards is playing two different guitars and a bass. We don't know the details of the recording but it does show he was serious about it. Lou Reed had a low opinion of the blues. Maybe, this is a cosmic joker's last word on the subject of the Blues. @@alanlake4614

I had a book about Keith back in the 80s. It basically said Keith was a ghost skeleton who waited for fans to turn up hopefully with some good free dope (smack, H, etc). His partner said she was resigned to the fact she'd find him dead on the coach. And here we are 40 years later. Keith is a remarkable human being.
