To be fair, the G16E really is a nice engine. The same engine from the road can even be found inside the Rally2 version of the GR Yaris, so it's literally a race engine. Rally1 engine is a completely different engine altogether (much like the car itself) and has no relation with the road car since it's basically a purpose built engine & space frame chassis following FIA's strict regulation (1.6L 4cyl Turbo), while Rally2 is more closely related to its road counterpart so they have a bit more leeway on the engine configuration as long as it's 1.6L in capacity. Basically Rally1 is your modern Group B, and Rally2 is a modern Group A

Cylinder numbers don't matter its the Total CC between all the cylinders. A 4 cylinder 1.6 and a 3 cylinder 1.6 are still both a 1.6.

@@rneomanIt matters. A smaller cylinder can have less stroke which limits rpm both on a mechanical level due to higher inertial forces and on the airflow side. More cylinders allows for more Valves and more airflow. A bigger cylinder has slower combustion and is more prone to detonation as well.

The guys in Australia think the block can handle around 1200hp+ on the block and has some of the thickest piston walls ever seen in the Automotive industry. Toyota/Yamaha has really done a magic trick with these 3cyl engines.

7:14 my dad had a 1.4 tdi fabia that made that sound just as the revs dropped back to idle. The engine noise it made always made me giggle. RIP big guy 😇. That weapon sound's better than most modren race car's. Deffo better that any current f1 cars. All black, same styling and yellow fogs 🥰
