On top of that, and just to consider, while it was a joke to use sewer rat meat for hamburguers (if it was well cooked it would be safe for human consumption... barely XD); there are countries and regions were "rat meat" is really consumed as a general dish. Of course, the term "rat meat" really means "rodent meat" because it talks about different species of rats/rodents that you can find in the wild, not rats from the sewers or the abandoned tunnels of a bygone era. So yeah: humanity has been there with "rat" dishes... and it's not far fetched: it tastes good (haven't had it myself, but it's still part of some local cuisines for a reason). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat_meat

Such an insightful reaction! The "satire" of this movie because of the 1990-1992 PMRC going after 200+ albums with their "Parental Advisory" stickers and attempting to ban several was ON POINT in this movie. The "unchecked" restrictions on language censorship was shown to be exactly as ridiculous as it should be. As an author, I'm working on editing several books to "limit" the number of instances of harsh language. Kind of leaning on the "PG-13" rules to do so. Listening to you all speak about the limitation that KZbin uses was eye opening. Overall, I love your reactions for movies and how you break down the story-telling that the cinematography, writing, and acting choices bring to these art forms.

The explosion and demolition of the building at the beginning of the movie is real, no CGI, no miniatures, 100% real building, in the 90s it was very common that productions filmed in a real way those scenes, in Lethal Weapon 3 they also made a real building explode and fall, I also remember that in The Fugitive with Harrison Ford, they derailed a real train, that's why I miss this level of productions more played to the real thing.

I've always remember the Demolition Man Taco Bell ads in fall of '93. I was so excited to see this movie and it didn't disappoint. One of the best and most fun Sci-Fi action films ever made

I actually Worked at Taco Bell when this movie came out! 😂 We had T-shirts that we wore to advertise the movie, I think. We had several T-shirts for different movies during my time at the old Taco Bell. I worked there in 1988. I had several decades working there. Part-time and full-time. I've been gone for a few decades now. 😁👍🏻

OH MY GOD, one of my favorite movies. I know it's silly but this movie had such an impact in my childhood. It was the first time I saw a male character in a "macho" action movie using colorful outfits, cool hair, DIFFERENT COLOURED EYES??, being fashionable and not stereotypically what you would imagine a character in this type of genre would look like. Many years later I'd come to find out more about my gender and whatnot, but this character, Simon, never left my mind. This movie even touches lightly on topics of masculinity and whatnot. Funny how the things we watch stay with us in different ways, huh? Anyway, I hope you like this movie. It's absolutely a fun time. It used to air all the time here on Brazilian Tv afternoons.

Great comment! Glad it had a positive influence for you taking some fun style cues from the villain it sounds like. Like a lot of kids are doing today with Jinx from Arcane maybe? I found it interesting that there are some rants against this movie saying it is anti-gay and extremely pro-cop / conservative etc.? I didn't get that from the movie, I mean, what about the lines like "this is how insecure heterosexual males communicate etc.? And Spartan's mini speech at the end to Friendly and the young ex-cop about "Hey maybe meet somwhere in the middle... and work it out," seemed quite reasonable advice.

I remember when this first came out. They literally demolished a building in downtown Louisville (Ky) as a promotion for the movie (I "think" MTV promoted it at the time... forgive me it's been over 30yrs and my memory isn't the best lol)

MTV promoted it, and their sports presenter Dan Cortese had a bit part as the entertainer at Taco Bell and as one of the guards at the cryo prison. Look out for a dark-haired dude with slicked back hair and a small ponytail.

To add to Ari's rant: It is not just that but it's also KZbin having to answer to its advertisers. Like, the word (self)unaliving. It has been put forward that Millennials or Gen Z invented that word because we are too sensitive to words like d13 or su1c1d3 (yes, had to resort to 1337 speak) but rather it's advertisers that do not want to have their ads play in videos which contain words like these. So I am completely with you, Ari, it's messed up for sure. Whether YT is infringing on its user's 1st amendment rights by doing this, or if we just have to deal with it because it is YT's right to do this on its own platform, well, that's a discussion for lawfolk, I'm just a lay person here. ... Anyway, getting past that, I loved you guys' reaction to this movie, as I do with all the reactions I watch (I hope you understand that I generally do not watch reactions to stuff I haven't seen yet (or games I haven't played yet on your 2.0 channel)), so I am really looking forward to the next one. Loved your interview I recently saw on another channel. Keep up the good work, guys. :)

It's the attention to detail that really makes this a fun film. It's a subtle detail in the background, no matter where the characters are, if there's a verbal morality machine somewhere, you can hear it in the background when someone swears! I'd absolutely be broke if they were real and installed in every city and building 😂

My favorite Stallone movie. Some trivia - The movie crew redesigned the Taco Bell logo for a futuristic setting. Taco Bell loved the design so much they bought it and used it for several years. Spartan does in fact meet his daughter. They meet shortly after running into Edgar down in the sewers. The scene was cut due to run-time. When Simon attacks with his henchman, he is interrupting their reunion and when Spartan dives for cover he's protecting her.

Proof that 80's-90's style action movies would still do great today (and that a wide audience is actually craving it) is the recent box office success of Top Gun: Maverick, which was kind of unexpected as a sequel to a 80's movie and which many were sceptical about its potential quality.
