Speaking as someone who can speak and read Hebrew, thanks to growing up a part of a vibrant Jewish community, the Mi Chamocha section in When You Believe was absolutely exquisite. The pronunciation and melodic emphasis was accurate and gorgeous. I once performed that section as a solo in fifth grade choir, because I was the only one with the range and the ability to speak the Hebrew clearly, and I poured my all into it. It's not easy, but done right it is pure magic.

Watching Mortius is always a cute little treat. But looking on and seeing you comment on his video (meaning that you've watched it as well) feels sweeter still as you are among the top of the list, mortius obviously as well of vocal coach/reactors that I love to watch. ^,^ as a singer myself I have never been able to learn musical notes but my eidetic memory allows me to replicate notes with perfect pitch or even sometimes harmonies as well. So I love learning about the music I love to listen to in a more broken down/studious frame of mind. ❤

Okay, still going to be really difficult for you since their voices blend a lot but here's a guide to their names lol: Kate - Soprano 1 (Classical-esque training and Always up in the rafter) Tiffany - Soprano 2 (the Soprano in When You Believe solo) Gospel Background. Ashley - Soprano 3/Alto 1 or Sopralto lmao. (Sings the Deliver Us solo at the end of the song.) Barbershop background Sarah - Alto 1/2 (Alto Solo in When You Believe) Jazz Background. Chrystal - Alto 2/3 (Sang Colors of the Wind in Disney Princess Medley) Gospel Background (Basically sings in Tenor territory but also has the highest recorded belt in Voctave Bb2-Ab5 lol) EJ - Tenor 1 (Can't wait to be King in Showstoppers Medley.) Basically sings high in Alto territory lol. Broadway/Pop/Rock esque style. Drew - Tenor 2 (All I've Ever Wanted Soloist) Barbershop Background. Jamey - Tenor 3 (Starts the Hebrew portion in When You Believe Ashira) Arranger/Leader of Voctave. Kurt - Bass 1 (Heaven's Eyes Solo) Broadway Background, Can sing up to Tenor ranges lmao. Aaron - Bass 2 (Newer addition to the group so has solos on the newer albums only) Barbershop background. Karl - Bass 3 (Always rumbling in the bassment, almost always in the 1st octave lol.) Check out Heroes and Villains or Make them hear you from the same album for his solo. Barbershop Background. Voctave has always been an 11 member group. Drew and Aaron are new additions who replaced Tony and JC respectively, you'll see them in the earlier videos. Tony - Vocal Director is usually seen conducting in the videos, Sang Tenor 2. Barbershop Background. JC - Sang Bass 3 amazing lows. Solo in You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch. All the members of Voctave are a part of Voices of Liberty at Epcot in Disney. They were all formed from there. They all sing on an off, most of them.

IMO their most balanced song to date. Everyone gets their time to shine. Although I too think they are masters of building up, it isn't exactly fair comparing Voctave to most A capella groups. Voctave has an unusual large line-up - 11 members! while standard non-collegiate ones are 5-7 (like The King Singers, Take6, PTX, Home free, Voiceplay). More members makes it "easier" to build things up. So you can only compare Voctave to let say Voces8 or actual choirs.
@jasonkim2739 Жыл бұрын
It's not fair to compare any group to Voctave because Voctave is the vocal performance equivalent to a video game cheat code. Each of the 11 singers is a powerhouse vocalist in his/her own right, yet they also blend together like none other. Combine that with Jamey Ray's arrangements, and you get a level of singing that others simply can't match. 👍🏽

Frisson (the experience of goosebumps or chills when listening to music) actually only occurs in about 50% of people, so it’s less common than you might think! People that experience frisson have more connections between their auditory and emotional processing centers in their brains. I guess I’m one of them because I will always experience chills when music hits me emotionally 😊

As a superfan of the movie, it's weird for me to hear The Plagues before Heaven's Eyes in this arrangement, but it still gives me chills. Also, it didn't sound to me like EJ for any of those men's solos but I could be wrong. I also am not great at identifying the Voctave just by voice (or remembering names).

EJ doesn't have a solo in this one. Kate opened the song by singing up into the stratosphere, Drew Ochoa was the first men's solo, followed by Kurt who sang "Through Heaven's Eyes". Tiffany and Sarah sang "When You Believe", and then Ashley brought it home with "Deliver Us".

I really wish that I could enjoy this with you (and the rest of the comment section from what I can see). Unfortunately, for some reason, one (or more) of their high sopranos will occasionally be singing in a range that my brain translates to the equivalent of a too high flute or nails on a chalkboard. It sucks because I really like this one otherwise and would also probably love several of their other arrangements. I know that what their doing is technically impressive, I just wish my brain would let me enjoy it too. To be fair to Voctave, VoicePlay will illicit a similar response if their female guest artist gets into a similar range (Phantom and Mountain King both have their own cringe moments). It just seems like every Voctave song includes that range.
