I saw Larry Lalonde in 86 when he was in Possessed. He was 15. it was a trip back then seeing someone backstage my age. He was already tearing it up back then. Luckily he got himself into a band where he could truly explore his talent. Another funny little piece of Primus meeting metal trivia .Less tried out for Metallica after Cliff Burton died it was an open audition in San Francisco. I guess he wasn't good enough.

@christiangasior42445 жыл бұрын
Herb tends to be strangely overlooked. He is an amazing drummer. If Les Claypool didn’t happen to be the best bassist in modern rock, Herb would surely steal the show. Larry Lalonde is a great guitarist and perfect for this band, but I wouldn’t name him in the top 100 rock guitarists of all time, whereas herb would rank somewhere on my top 100 rock drummers of all time. Top 50 maybe.

@eddiehoare34885 жыл бұрын
Chase Tams, be Serious! These are 'Gifted Pop Stars'... If they were given a year to learn an 8 minute Mahavishnu Orchestra track, most of the notes would be off, and none of the band can read complex sheet music. With Mahavishnu, even the drummer reads music. I like the videos though. - I really tried with Les, to get him to learn from a band I manage - a combo with two basses doing the lead work (The Frillyboys). We all read music, so it's a great bonus. Anyway, Les does make it to some of our gigs (when Irma lets him) and we've had some great jam sessions, - but we keep to simple stuff, like covers of Led Zep and Gong if Les is playing. Sorry to rant on, Amig/Amica but jazz has always had the best musicians - and we play thrash jazz rock! Peace n Love. Eddie.

There's a misconception that you need to be on drugs to listen to and create music. It's a myth! Primus didn't do drugs. They liked beer/wine and some cannibus. But they(Les & Ler) said that recreational use was not directly involved in their music writing. Of course their was an indirect effect, but any experience we have will have indirect effects on our personalities. Saying musicians are on drugs to make music is an ignorant lie/rumor. I'm a musician. Rule #1 when it comes to recording or playing live music is DON'T SHOW UP STONED! Maybe the Ramones were stoned when they played, but any real musician won't be. The Ramones were bad musicians and songwriters. So yeah, maybe they were stoned all the time. That would explain it, but Hendrixes band, "the Experience", said that it was totally untrue that he played while stoned or tripping. It would be impossible to play at such a high(no pun) level. The rumor about Hendrix came from ignorant fools. Sure he like drugs in his recreational personal life, but he was sober in recordings and live shows according to his bandmates. Oh. Here's a great song to look up. The title of the song is called 'Rumors.' I forget the artists name. (And no, it's just a SONG title, not an album title by the same name. If u come across fleetwood Mac in ur search, don't listen. They were definitely on drugs, that's why they sucked. Just type song from 80's called Rumors

You can't say which is the best bass player ever. Simply because you can play bass or any other instrument in thousands way. That said Les Calypool is for sure one of the best expression of bass history. And for sure he created an original way to play the bass. He enriched the bass world, helping to enhance this music role that too many times was underestimated.

"I remember as if it were a meal ago" Said Tommy the Cat as he reeled back to clear whatever foreign matter may have nestled its way into his mighty throat. Many a fat alley rat had met its demise while staring point blank down the cavernous barrel of this awesome prowling machine. Truly a wonder of nature this urban predator. Tommy the cat had many a story to tell, But it was a rare occasion such as this that he did. "She came slidin' down the alleyway like butter drippin' off a hot biscuit. The aroma, the mean scent, was enough to arouse suspicion in even the oldest of Tigers that hung around the hot spot in those days. The sight was beyond belief. Many a head snapped for double - even triple - takes as this vivacious feline made her her way into the delta of the alleyway where the most virile of the young tabbys were known to hang out. They hung in droves. Such a multitude of masculinity could only be found in one place... And that was O'malley's Alley. The air was thick with cat calls (no pun intended), But not even a muscle in her neck did twitch as she sauntered up into the heart of the alley. She knew what she wanted. She was lookin' for that stud bull, the he cat. And that was me. Tommy the Cat is my name and I say unto thee... "Say baby do you wanna lay down by me"

I’ve been a Primus fan since day one. What I’ve always loved about them is that the guitar, bass and drums are always in the front, together. You don’t get that kind of in your face music much. I actually got to meet Herb when he was sitting in on drums for his girlfriend’s band because her drummer had broken his arm. It was on the wharf in San Francisco at a Summer Solstice festival where there were like probably 100 bands playing. I was behind the stage (not backstage) where he was playing and immediately recognized him. I yelled out “Primus sucks!” (their catchphrase at the time). He turned around and gave me a thumbs up. After their set, we had a couple of beers together and he signed a drumstick for me that said “Sal sucks!” Tim “Herb” Alexander. I cherish that stick and will never forget that day, over twenty years ago.
