Don't poison food!! This is basic. People that live there should be able to eat from food trees. What is wrong with people.

You don’t always have a choice. We have wood floors and doors in my house that doesn’t exist anymore cause a foreign bug came into the country and wiped out all those trees. You may not have a choice if the beetles can just destroy all the trees Though, we have those red Chinese beetle things that also came into the country, my dad put a sticky trap around the tree cause they climb up the trees and that has worked

You can’t eat fruit from a dead tree. Do the process and quarantine the tree until the chemicals are gone. At least this way the trees have a chance.

Most of the trees they are intending to treat are decorative in nature only. They are worried about street vendors taking coconuts off of private property trees and selling them to unsuspecting tourists. However, most of those trees are trimmed to not fruit because of the liability of falling coconuts, so there's that. 1 of my trees in my yard is infected and I am thinking about treatment because it's either that or cut it down due to instability. It's an older, very tall tree in a residential area, so it could cause severe damage if it continues to degrade.

@@lalaismyalterego7444 I think you're a little too trusting - I'm going to guess that a very small percentage of restaurants also use coconuts from treated trees, as, believe it or not, a LOT of people are cheapskates and could care less about the health of their customers. Ever look up the results of health inspections at restaurants in your area? I'll tell you, reading the reports can be eye opening, and that's just the very small tip of a very large iceberg. Most people simply prefer to stick their heads in the sand and pretend nothing's going on with the food they put in their mouths...

@@iwatchyoutube523 Indeed. Living with the awareness of the unexpected keeps us all balanced. We don't exhaust ourselves with surface level excitement because we know that things can shift on a dime, and we don't despair when things don't go our way because some unforeseen fortuity can suddenly appear. The precautionary principle is based on this reality as well. We often assume that what we know, what we can perceive makes up the totality of what's there (in relation to each situation). But the truth is, there's plenty we don't know we don't know, and we fail to anticipate or take into account the unforeseen elements. That's what you did here. You assumed that what we were warned about in this video was the totality of the problems we can expect. But it is not, far from it.

The beetles are not killing the trees. They are the cleanup crew. We had this problem in NC with pines and Bradford pear trees. The tree was already diseased before the beetles showed up. Since "aerial spraying" had become prolific, we figured that was the culprit. Also, at the same time, our blueberry trees, about 50 of them, stopped bearing.

In Germany we had a beetle problem as well, dozens of acres are being killed by spruce beetles. But as it turns out, the reason this is happening is because these spruces aren't native to the area and were planted into massive monocultures even though mixed forests are natural and not effected by the beetles! The beetles are actively bringing back a natural habitat, dead trees give a home to a range of species and give way for the forest floor to sprout with new, mixed species life!

Destroying the street side vendors who used to be able to make a yummy cocktail/dish from any coconut tree in the area. All you had to do was know how to climb the tree and get the required number of coconuts needed for the day. Now, they are poisoned and not marked as being treated. I pray the original recipes are able to survive this extinction of island cooking. ❤

No mention as to how to determine which coconut trees have been injected. People harvesting the coconuts may not even be aware that the trees they are picking from have been injected with pesticide, unless they've been marked, and then the person would need to understand what the mark means. I can see how if someone is clueless about the program to control the beetle that they could easily unknowingly harves poisoned coconuts. And then, how are the companies that make products from coconuts able to distinguish if the coconuts they are getting are truly kosher or not?

Caught two beetles over a month ago and they are still living in the same bottle I put them in. Even without any food they are still living. These beetles are very resilient. Coconut trees aren't the only palms they destroy. Royal palms and fan palms get hit hard as well.

Yes, actually there are long term food safety studies with this chemical and there are some side effects with repeated heavy exposure to those who handle imidacloprid. Mostly thyroid and endocrine disruptions. The effects from food crops are unremarkable. Dogs have been given this chemical as a flea and tick treatment for some time.
