Heres a story I think Sammy will appreciate: a good friend of mine was living in a section of Boston that was controlled at the time by the mafia. She was going to school and had a roommate who also went to school up there. Theyd walk a bit between their apartment and the subway every night and they both noticed that the well dressed italian guys who were always around would follow. One night her friend turned around to ask the two guys that were following her what they were doing. One replied we want to make sure you get home safe dear.

Organized crime ran my hometown. They did their business and kept the community safe. The bullshit that’s occurring there now, first of all, would not have happened. Secondly, if it did, there would be no need to call law enforcement. They would have taken care of the bastards on the spot. Our family never had problems with them.

The gold just keeps coming, such an honour to be able to listen to you explaining so many different scenarios from that life, it is so much more than it has appeared in movies, even docos with real interviews have not been able to convey it in such raw depth. This episode really showed how some big decisions are made, the thought process like "You're a coward, you shoulda killed him, come to us with the reason, we would have forgiven you, an made you captain. But you didn't, you came to us to do your dirty work, so we let him live." I thought that was such a great view into how so much of it is about respect and being true. Thank you again Sammy keep giving us the amazing tales mate.

I honestly thought u had to go to a higher-up to get permission in LCN, so that was news to me. I always thought that if u clip someone without permission, then you'd get clipped, so I thought Sammy Mintz was going by the book, so to speak. Maybe his mistake was not asking for permission to do the hit himself?

That wasn't really the point at all. By forcing him to marry the daughter it may seem humiliating from one perspective, but the real point to these old school mobsters was probably "you had sex with his daughter so now you have to take good care of her and provide for her". So it wasn't a reward for Carmine to marry the daughter because it comes with implication that he has to provide for the daughter and treat her respectably to make up for what he did. It doesn't just mean he gets to marry the daughter and treat her however he wants. It's a weird way of looking at things but it makes sense from an old timers perspective I think. Very medieval way of looking at things.
