I wonder if there is a common connection. On a superficial level, Jewish families often love Asian/Chinese restaurants because they are open when other restaurants are closed, like Christmas. On a deeper level, Buddhists and Reform Jews have bonded over similar philosophies and tolerances. And the immigrant experience and priorities are similar (but not exclusive to them -- most other immigrants share those priorities).

I have A LOT of italian friends (I grew up with them, playing with them daily, being at their place, lots of birthdays with casual 100people, I tutored a few and was looked after when my grandma got ill and couldn't look after me, that's also how I lpartly learned italian) - only 3? or 4? got hit sometimes and even then mostly just a small slap I wouldn't really call getting beaten. It isn't that common as far as I know (but I guess their grandparents would be more prone to it as far as I got to know them). They are full italian, their parents came from Italy with mostly their whole family still there and where partly even born in Italy themselves (and you can guess it: a lot of pasta making in cute little old kitchens with their grandmas when they visit lol). They can get pretty heated pretty fast tho. They nearly all have loud voices that will get even louder and especially when mad they will talk a lot with their hands. And children show a lot of respect to their elders. Their loud voices probably get the job done. On the other side, they are VERY open and loving and you won't be hungry. 😆

shit that was mine and my brother's childhood and I am far better off than I would have been otherwise. I was a little hellion growing up. Cussed out my grandparents got beat or soap in the mouth, got caught stealing got beat, bully others got beat, didn't do my homework got beat. My mom tried to do timeouts as the nice punishments and they learned real quick that those did nothing. The only thing I really had growing up with a NES but I loved being outside so not like grounding me from that was going to work. All the electronics that kids have nowadays didn't exist back then unless your family was super rich. My grandma had a board with my initials on one side and my brother's on the other side. We didn't even try to mess with that thing cause if anything happened to it we went back to having to go get a switch from the bushes in the front yard and I would rather take a board over that.

As a Chinese, I'm laughing so hard at the passivity comment. Yes, we're taught to be tolerant in general and to not make a fuss about minor things, and within friends and family, you ARE expected to to tolerant, to not care about division of labor, to not care about insensitive remarks, etc. But Chinese people will not take BS if you're not family or a trusted friend. Chinese parents will confront anyone who treats their kid unfairly or hurts their kid's future. Many will confront and yell at people who get in their way. They will bargain at a market stall like it's nobody's business. Like, once when I was stuck on a plane in China for HOURS after landing at a different airport than scheduled, I texted my family and the first thing my cousin tells me was to get out of people's way, that he wouldn't be surprised if the angry old ladies were to create a riot and try to pry open the plane door.

I want to clarify the rules for anyone that might see this as it was extremely poorly explained in the video: OTV's objective: They want to vote out all the asians and be left with the non-asian as the last person. The 5 Asians objective: They are trying to appear non-asian so they stay in the game as long as possible and be the last person standing. The non-asian's objective: They are trying to be as asian as possible and be voted out so they don't want to be the last person standing.
