A note for any first time campers that may be watching this: black bears are generally skittish, but if you do end up abandoning a campsite in bear country like OTV, make sure to take all food and scented items with you or properly secure them against bears (bear canister, bear box). They are incredibly smart, and if a bear starts to associate people with food, it will become a hazard and has to be shot. The US Forest Service has resources on camping in bear country, and you should always consult more local resources for regulations and tips as well.

As someone who has been backpacking regularly for many years I can't stress enough the importance of precautions when it comes to bears. I've had some quite frightening encounters and in a real camping experience it can be incredibly dangerous to encounter one around your camp(I'm not classifying this as "real camping" because the camera crew and the fact that they definitely have vehicles nearby or at least some ways to contact a nearby settlement other than a sat-phone".

So paused at 13:56. Being a scout throughout the entirety of my schooling, I can tell you what's going wrong here. When using a fire starter you want to do long hard scrapes to get a mass of sparks rather than rapid firing small bursts. You put the fire starter on the ground/log next to whatever you're using for kindling, and try to do one big scrape down so that there's a shower of sparks. In case anyone needs to do this in the future!

I've camped at Georgetown Lake in Montana during February, and your sleeping bag will freeze to the ground through your tent if you don't have a ground pad (or some kind of hammock). They are critical to surviving in winter camping!

the magic trick is actually so easy it requires no sleight of hand or skill whatsoever, essentially u split the deck in half (red and blacks) before and perform the trick exactly at face value and switch the color designated to each side at exactly half way (count to 24 then switch), then you allow the participant to flip over the side of the "sorted" cards that are correct and grab the side with the exact wrong cards and gather the cards together before flipping them to not reveal that they are actually sorted opposite of the other stack.

That alternate universe would be a sad one. The Forest Service would have to write a eulogy for some LA streamers with a pink moped and an unusual amount of fake coins. Those bears are determined. I worked on a 12 member USFS trail crew near Mammoth mountain. One of our fellow crews storage garage got broken into. They pulled the thin metal door apart. to get to the good smells. We also dealt with bears in our camp. after someone left food out in the open they came back for a whole week. We ended up setting an alarm for them(Can with strings to get knocked over). They tried to roll our propane stove down a hill in search of food. Chased them out of camp every night for the whole week. The (3)bears left after we packed the food up tight so they couldnt smell it while we were out working. in summary leaving food out is like a bear magnet, but they want tyhe food not the smoke. -(Big Basin SP/ Inyo NF) BCTP trail crew 2022

It's crazy to me that Lily is from the East coast and has grown up with real winters (like me) knows she's going camping in the mountainous winter snow and is so completely ill prepared as if she has never experienced cold before.
