For the awning windows in rain. I highly recommend putting a rope on each spigot to keep tension and allow water run off. Also more spreader poles on awning definitely helps to stop pooling 👍

We had the same problem with pooling on the roof. We purchase some extra spreader poles from Tent World, about $18 each and it made all the difference. Had torrential rain with no pooling. Have 3 spreader per section.

Wow!! I’m in the market for something that will accommodate my family of four (including two very young kids) and was thinking of a camper trailer but geez Louise, after watching all your dilemmas in the rain, I’m almost thinking that a hybrid van might be the go. Obviously a lot more upfront expense involved including towing the thing around in comparison to a camper trailer but probably a lot less stress when the weather turns average especially with two little ones. Great insightful vid ... thanks 👍
@gettingaroundaus3 жыл бұрын
Yeah no problem Rich. But that's it hey you gotta weigh up the pros and cons to work out what's the go for you. But hey when the weather is good none of that matters 😂

Another great practical video, thanks for sharing. It gives rise to a question I didn't see asked in the comments. How do you go packing up the morning after when it rained all night or indeed is still raining. How long can you go before opening it all up again to dry before mould might take hold? Do you have to treat your canvas with any water repellant chemicals?
@gettingaroundaus2 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what happened. Rained for 3 days non stop and packed up in that rain which wasn't fun. We had wet sheets etc. When we opened up at the end of the next day but all you can do is air it all. The canvas does dry fairly quickly however. All through Nth QLD mould kept reappearing but some spray from bunnings always got rid of it. After some sun it all dried pretty quickly and it was like it never happened. Thankfully we got breaks in the rain at different times and your soon back into it
@gettingaroundaus2 жыл бұрын
Also I have heard of spray you can pretreat the outside with but never used it. Ultimately the problems only arise after a wet pack up but again you can use mattress/bed protection to alleviate that as well. It dries pretty quickly

😂😂😂 After 2 years in the camper we feel your pain mate. Rain wind and anything between is a real challange. See on the bright sight (even though it's hard😂) we can get places others wont. Have fun guys

The joys of wet canvas, mould and humidity. I’d buy a portable washer and inverter. Good luck 🍻

@@gettingaroundaus Your all set then. Give you a tip. Buy a big bucket and lid put your washing in, wool mix, and drive the bumps on the road wash your clothes, job done. No stress. Or spend 350 bucks on a washer that lasts 3 months.🛠

Definitely get guy ropes on as soon as possible, seen a few get annihilated by wind gusts. And have a look at the Raawcon pole adapter kits. Amazing bit if kit, so much quicker and easier. We've copped alot of rain in our forward fold. Had to escape a rising river, that was lapping at our annexe when we awoke in the morning on Kangaroo Island.
@gettingaroundaus3 жыл бұрын
Yeah we use the ropes when we need to for sure. Heard about the raawcon poles but the ones we have do the job at the moment. Have some other things we need to buy first 😕 really appreciate the feedback mate 👍

I own a jackson rearfold and i leave the annex connected all times just fling it over the roof. Are you able to do this or does the dual fold not allow it? We found it takes up no room and it takes less time to set up.
@gettingaroundaus3 жыл бұрын
Yeah we have been told of people doing it with the robbo but haven't tried. Think we are going to though at some stage 👍

@@gettingaroundaus have you ever tried it? I have the robbo and never even taught of doing this.
@gettingaroundaus2 жыл бұрын
I haven't but ran into people on our big lap who swore by it. We more than often don't use the annex and prefer to pack it all up with the options up to us.
@yourenotwrong35112 жыл бұрын
@@gettingaroundaus yeah same mate. We only ever put it up if we are staying in the one spot a few days and the we usually drop it the evening before we leave.

Hi Ryan, actually covered this off in a couple of videos while we were in the Nth QLD Tropics... Nothing like a few days of torrential rain to test it out 😂 think I explained it best in those while it was fresh. Mostly positive though, Deezel 🍺

I want to know how it goes in cold strong winds like s.a. and tassie always get, had a rooftop camper and let me say...never again, 1 month on kangaroo island and 2 months on eyre peninsula, we were ready to kill each other, no sleep, wind all night kept us awake because of all the flapping, is the robson camper like that in wind?
@gettingaroundaus2 жыл бұрын
The Robson canvas completely blocks out the wind and when it's closed up at night for eg. Will retain warmth inside. When the annex is up and it's all strapped down there isn't flapping, it just rocks a little bit. Had 50km in a couple places and didn't really notice it. Without the annex up it does flap like crazy because it's not tied down and taught. Hope the info helps. We've been down to Mt Gambier in SA and the cold wasn't an issue once zipped up.
