Looks like you have a really extensive tool collection. I’d like to see a shop tour.

Noted! I've done partial tours before, but not whole shop. I've got some cleaning to do! The tool collection is part of the fun for me. I usually tell people my hobby is collecting, and my main collection is hobbies 😅

Love the idea of a shop tour; also would like a video on all the various planes you have and a little about your background!

I should do something like that on the planes, it would be fun. And really should make a channel trailer one of these days too

Oh, I hope no one will question about the things in the boxes, haha. And yeah, now you made me want gouges! Anyways, I like the paint. They look nice.
@MosquitoMade

Thanks! I've only got the one carving gouge, and a couple of in-cannel gouges that aren't necessarily for carving (they don't work well for what I did). I wouldn't mind getting a few more though!

This was a great video. I will look to see if you made a follow up for the inside of the boxes.

Any plans to make a video for the inside of these two boxes? It would be great to see.

Nice video. I like the format. Entetining and informative. I'd like to see how you fit out the boxes. What brand is the bench plane you use. No brand on the cap iron.
@MosquitoMade
@MosquitoMade 7 ай бұрын
Thanks! The bench planes was a vintage Keen Kutter KK series plane. They were made by Ohio Tool Co, and originally had ticket tapered irons. I've replaced the irons with the thick replacement irons that IBC Tools makes. They're 0.140" thick A2, and work great in these planes

Wait a second!! How did you get two different sizes for your box joints? I’ve been trying to think of a way to do this for a long time. Please take a minute to enlighten me?🙏🙏🙏

Sure, I sort of covered that at 1:30 in the video. Basically I've got two jigs setup, one using a 3/4" router bit, and one using a 1/4" router bit. Normally You set the router bit to be the same distance from the registration pin as it cuts (so 3/4" from the registration pin). What I did was matched it up to the OTHER jig's router bit. So the one using the 3/4" router bit, I set to be 1/4" from the registration pin. On the other jig, I set the 1/4" router bit 3/4" away from the registration pin. It's kind of tricky to get it dialed in, since any tweaks to one impact the other, so you sort of have to adjust half on one and half on the other, and very tiny amounts at a time, since any error gets compounded over 7-8 joints... Rob Cosman also has a video about a DIY jig he built for two routers that does the same as well. You should be able to find that one if you search for "Dovetailed Finger Joint Jig" I think

This looks like very high-end broadcast quality video from the 90s, similar to The New Yankee Workshop. What camera did you use?
@MosquitoMade
@MosquitoMade Жыл бұрын
It was a mix of cameras, so the quality sort of ended up all over to be honest. Anything from Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4k (I have two as the main cameras), an insta360 OneRS, gopro hero7 black, and some generic 1080p60 HDMI cameras recording on desktop through OBS Studio (the front, top, and two side views of the workbench). I'm still experimenting a lot with camera setups and tweaking things to find what I like

@@MosquitoMade Your shop kicks as! It's a perfect backdrop to a woodworking channel. I wish I had the energy to get my crap together. You should do more videos, especially build ones. Years ago, you made an awesome saw build video. It's still one of my favs! You have a good presence and presentation, although I recommend more close-up shots of your work. Your interests in computing and woodworking could be your channel's special angle which is unique.

@@bobweiram6321 haha thank you! It's my happy place :D Though at the moment, that back drop is about the only clean area in the shop lol Thanks for the feedback, When you say close ups, do you mean of the finished work, or of the work while in progress (or both)? My goal for the year is to get at least one video out a month, and hoping to do more build videos, and one of which I want to do is another computer case, actually. I'm in the middle of a pair of table saw restorations too, which I'm debating doing a video or more on the second saw, but we'll see. Those are hard because they're such long term projects lol

@@MosquitoMade I'm really excited with anticipation on your next projects! Don't rush it. I believe most viewers favor quality over quantity. Restoration videos are great, especially if the final result looks factory quality. Too many of restoration videos are simply a wipe down with some bearing changes, which are boring unless it details the disassembly and reassembly in case you're stuck figuring out how to put the same or similar machine back together. As for project videos, rather than stringing out a project video over several weeks, a single project released concurrently as one or more parts is more engaging. There's too many other interesting content vying for your attention, making you lose interest by the time the next installment shows up on your feed. I meant close ups of the work in progress.

@@bobweiram6321 Definitely good food for though, thank you! And I agree on the long-term projects. When I did a planer restoration, I waited until I was done with the restoration (over several months) to do the video edit and release. I did a full-length video, along with the individual "chapters". It seems the shorter chunks broken down by areas of the machine (gearbox assembly, head lifting chain assembly, cutter head and roller assembly, etc) are the most often commented on by people doing the same, or stuck with a similar part of the process. Ultimately, I try to make the videos that I look for when doing whatever it is I'm making the video of lol

Haha, I definitely use my hand tools and they don't just collect dust for long. Even with the box joint jig with these boxes, I used hand tools for more of it than the power tools!
