I always shed a tear when I see and hear Mikio Fujiyoka, the god of harmonics. He was a genius at his art and instrument. He will be missed. It's a shame he wasn't as well known as other guitarists, but he left a lasting impression on me. He's MY guitar hero of all time. This is my all time favorite Babymetal song. My number 1.

Yay! YAVA! has to be one of my all-time Babymetal favorites. Also, super excited to hear you guys are doing the Trilogy (I assume Trilogy of Lights - Starlight, Shine, Arkadia), which is the "unofficial tribute", according to most fans to Mikio (1st soloist in this performance), who passed away Jan 2018. As others have mentioned, this song is about accepting something different. I love the smartness in the lyrics, poking fun at those who couldn't accept things that are different, "Something is different, YAVA! (Oh No!), what should I do?!", just like those who couldn't accept Babymetal for trying something new. 🤣 Also, you guys are absolutely correct, Kami Band definitely improvises quite often during their solos, even though some of the solos carry a very similar "feel". Unfortunately, to circumvent the copyright Gods, Synco had to slice together different footage. They're good enough that an average person couldn't tell, but musicians can definitely pick up on them. I believe he did use a single footage for Mikio's solo though, he knows better than to cut up Mikio's stuff haha. Small tidbit as well: Takayoshi Ohmura (2nd soloist, pink glam guitar) was Mikio's understudy, and Mikio's passing affected him heavily. Moa also took some guitar lessons from Mikio as well. In fact, for the live debut of "Shine" (part of the Trilogy), at the Legend-M concert (consider using this version of Shine for your Trilogy reaction), Moa played the 1st acoustic guitar parts and is seen "grieving" towards that guitar on stage throughout the song, which is another reason why many fans consider the Trilogy of Lights a tribute to Mikio. Excited for more Babymetal and original music from you guys! 🤘🦊🤘🦊

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🤔 The official lyric is "ヤバッ!" (Yaba!), which is a clipped form of "yabai". Originally, "yabai" meant "dangerous", but in this song and popular usage, it is also used as an exclamation. "Oh no!" is a pretty good equivalent in English. Aside from the solos from Su, 'YAVA!' is my favorite track from the Metal Resistance album. And some of my favorite BABYMETAL choreography. There are groups that have spent years trying to make sludgy ska metal sound good, and BABYMETAL pulls it off the first time. I would have done a whole album like that, but they moved on to the next thing. : )

Great reaction, but as has already been said many times in the comments below, this is a fan made compilation video with random shots of Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Takayoshi on guitars - mostly playing something completely different to what you were listening to and the same goes for BOH's bass solo and Hideki Aoyama's drums.

5:16 Reaction start _"Pippo pappo pippo pappo piii"_ YAVA! (actually Yabai!, It's a contraction) means like "oh no!" or when describing something dangerous or surprising. They're fusing ska genre and metal in a way no one did before, the charming of our girls is unmatchable. The Kami Band intro in this one is super fun, Mikio Fujioka-sama doing some magic here. (R.I.P.) It's not the best live compilation out there and i think there's another one better around with footage of Five Fox Festival 2017 and mixing up with Big Fox Festival 2017, that was the last live performance for YuiMetal, sad moment everytime I remember this. The Kami Band doing a different intro unlike the rest but still being impressive and fits totally with the song and the ska rhythm. "Chigau" in the lyrics is the temporary title fans gave to this song when live premiere without knowing the song, the word means "different" and totally fits with the meaning of the song, this could be a song talking about them, you know the surprise factor of being different. This song is a blast at live and they performed it in the US live tour back then but now it's very rare and i think it'll be really hard to see this live again, maybe for an anniversary edition or some event really special, OTFGK. this song is fun. the one shot you see where the audience in the front row is female is in 2017, red fox festival, where the whole audience was female. it was so cool to hear the difference in sounds to the song with female voices. not very many people react to this song because most videos is just the compilations where it can mess up the song with the editing. like said it is just so much fun. also how hard is it to dance in time on a moving stage where these girls are doing this.

Great reaction, thanks! You just discovered (and mentioned) the reason why I don't like this kind of compilations. Especially regarding the band's solos. "YAVA!" is one of my favorite songs. For some reason, the ska mixed with metal totally works for me. Although the lyrics are pretty much obscure I believe that the song is about being, acting and, most important, being perceived as "different" in a culture where not looking and acting like everyone else is seen as weird (in a bad way). The word "chigau" (they say it a lot) means "different" and also "wrong". And saying it with the repeated hand gesture they do in front of the face means that something is not acceptable. So, it could be related to their own history, not being a "normal" or "usual" band at all. Until next time! 🤘🦊

I don't know if you recognized the player as him, but the first guitarist in the intro is Mikio Fujioka, guitarist extraordinaire, who passed away in early 2019 after being injured in a fall towards the end of December 2018. By all accounts he was not only a masterful guitarist but an all-around good person. From what I understand the girls were devastated, as they kind of grew up around him, beginning in 2011 or so. If you are interested, the Kami Band themselves did a tribute song for Mikio called The Hill of Wisteria and the video of it is on YT. It's really a poignant video that shows the loss felt by the rest of the band.

He was injured in late 2017 and died in early 2018, but more importantly, that video is ripped from a DVD that is supposed to be sold to benefit Mikio's family. Just FYI.

Yava is one of my all time favorites, and it's frustrating that there are so few quality versions of it available. So little of the choreo is synched correctly in this compilation, and it's sad because this is also some of my favorite choreography. You do get to hear all the awesomeness in this one, but the visuals are done a disservice. Though to be fair, this must be a really hard song to synch. Can't wait for (part of? XD) The Trilogy to come. 🤘🦊🤘

The out of sync look of the solos is the video editing. This is a compilation vid. There are vids where you can see them play all of it in sync.

There's a version of this Kami band intro somewhere with the actual footage from the audio that was used in the compilation. Unfortunately a lot of videos that survived the Great Amuse Purge are compilations like this where footage from different live performances are edited together.

This song's meaning in my view is this is an ode to the haters who eventually fell in love with Babymetal. As the lyrics imply "this is different, i don't think i like it, but it's different, maybe i DO like it" "different different, this is unacceptable, but yet i can't stop caring about it". "OH NO! I THINK I LIKE IT!" 😂😂😂 EXACTLY what every converted Babymetal fan goes through. Also, I think Yui and Moa doing the "papipo" part of the song is in reference to a horn section, or rather voicing the horn section instead of real horns. The girls ARE the horn section.

This is such a fantastic song, I love it! It puts me in such a happy mood, it's pure fun! And it's something that you couldn't get from any other band. The combination of Ska and Metal is perfect, and the addition of the choreography is priceless. Too bad that it's unlikely that we'll ever see it presented live again. I'm not a fan of these compilation videos, though. The solo parts in the beginning in particular look very strange to anyone who knows the slightest thing about playing these instruments.

👍 👍 Great reaction guys to an admittedly choppy compilation. The best compilations in my opinion are LIVE audio from one performance seamlessly edited with footage from multiple concerts. These are great channels for that Kurokiitsunesama For The Fox God ferr who? K.S. Good luck

Good catch on the compilation not showing them playing what you were hearing during the solos. Ironically, the first soloist Mikio actually tended to improv (or at least change up his solos, though with his jazz background I wouldn't be surprised if he improv'd) a lot more than the second, Takayoshi. The compilation just happened to sync up the playing better during the first solo, and this is the only pro-shot show where they played solos before this song, so there's not much to 'compile' for that part. For other songs though, Mikio would change up his entire solo pretty much every time, while Taka would usually just throw a couple bars from a famous melody or other solo at the ends of his. Do y'all have a discord server? I could share some examples of their other solos in there, since youtube generally blocks comments with links.

Of all the terrific dancing that these young ladies do this is their most impressive dance piece. The choreography is very intricate and intense energy and stamina. Shout out to Mikiko-Metal and the girls for this AMAZING dancing! 🤘🦊🤘

YAVA (Big Fox Festival 2017) was the last time (to date) the East Kami band ever did a solo intro (also it was the last with Yui). Their following shows in December that year (2 nights in Hiroshima "Legend S Baptism XX) were the last shows for Mikio Fujioka. The Official video for "No Rain No Rainbow" kind of pays some tribute to him. In later performances you will see Guitarist Takayoshi Ohmura (Who has multiple of his own signature guitars) using Mikio's signature guitar (ESP Snapper 7 - Burgundy Mist). The East Kamis have not been used since January 2023.

Sorry to be that guy, but the Japanese Kamis actually did perform solos for Kagerou at a couple fan-club-only shows and one festival in Japan, there just isn't any pro-shot or fancam footage that I've been able to find of either of them. So yes, for our purposes, they haven't performed any solos for BM since. 🤓

Thank you for reacting to this song. I enjoyed your analysis as well. My interpretation to the lyrics is that Babymetal is singing about themselves and their style of music. The trio's costumes are cute and badass. So they are idol, right? No? (chigau). The musicians wear white robes and corpse paint. So they are metal, right? No? (chigau). Their music is uplifting in some parts, and heavy in other parts. So their idol or metal? Which is it? (a-re docchi, ko-re docchi? which one is that, which one is this?). Something along those lines. And I enjoyed Babymetal nonetheless.

Try to read lyrics for Rondo of Nightmare, Megitsune, Akatsuki, Monochrome for example. And you'll see that they are perfectly capable at writing meaningful lyrics and not just silly stuff.
